Did Justin Jefferson (Tide LB) just gain two more years of eligibility?

Federal court in Tennessee today ruled in favor of Vandy QB Diego Pavia, suggesting that JUCO years do not count toward NCAA eligibility.

Since Jefferson came in out of JUCO last year, that makes him a sophomore this past season, correct?

If Jefferson wants to test that, then yes

Seems like it may not hold up but then again my faith in the NCAA to win in court is pretty minimal at this point.

Eventually, we will see college football players playing 10 years.

I mean, if a regular Joe Schmoe can take 8 years to graduate, why can’t a football player?

I mean the whole point of college football was watching players cycle through every 3-4 years. Every now and then you’d see a 5th year senior who wa hurt making a comeback or a walk-on that finally cracked the starting lineup. That’s what made it interesting. Now they can transfer as often or stay as long as they want.

This is just another cut to the Golden Goose.

Well we are a decade away from it officially being minor league football so yeah you’ll see guys playing 10 years then.

The courts have essentially decided that there's no legal basis for placing any restriction on a college athlete. The NCAA is never winning any of these cases. Give it a few years and the courts will be granting college athletes jus primae noctis.

They couldn't even punish Michigan for cheating out in the open last year.

Their nuts are officially cut off.

I coach in junior college, and I would have to believe that this decision will be overturned. Although the lowest level of college sports, it's still college and should count on your years of eligibility. If it were to be upheld and juco won't count against eligibility, then probably about to get a butt load of new players to recruit from. If they can play 2 years, get a lot of experience, and not lose any years, that's a great route! Juco may be the new college, and college the minors lol

NCAA is hesitant to punish someone in a year they won a national championship. Michigan was innocent of any significant wrongdoing by winning the CFP last year. If Michigan had not won the CFP, they may have been slapped around a bit harder. Notice how conveniently the SoCal problems started in 2005 not in 2003 or 2004 when they won national titles.

If he’s interesting, he should try it out. I think he’d benefit from one more year.
