Doesn’t excuse the coaching staff not having the team prepared against Oklahoma and Vandy.
Oh, I agree completely. I wrote elsewhere (maybe in this thread) that Vandy was the result of the players believing the season was over after they beat Georgia.
Oklahoma was -- in my opinion -- the players AND coaches taking a 5-5 team for granted and assuming our QB power run game would continue to work, and not having a plan B when one of the better defensive minds in the game had two weeks to prep for it.

Saban usually was able to keep the team focused from week to week, but DeBoer isn't to that level yet.
That's to be expected with a coaching change. While I am not comparing 2007 to 2024 from a talent perspective, you can see the similarities from a consistency perspective. If you recall 2007, there were a lot of the same inconsistencies that we saw in 2024.
In 2007, we had the same highs and lows. We struggled with a 3-9 Ole miss team, a 7-6 FSU team, and an 8-5 Houston team. We than proceed to blow the doors off Tennessee and we almost beat the eventual National Champs LSU and then proceeded to lose to Miss St, ULM, and Auburn.
While I wanted to make the playoffs and win the NC, there was always a part of me that worried about Deboer coming in and winning immediately and then fading like Larry Coker, which would have been far worse.
At least we know the transition/honeymoon is over and we can evaluate Deboer on how he does the next 2 seasons. I hope he succeeds, but if I'm being honest, if Deboer isn't cut out for the job, we will know sooner rather than later. Can you imagine if had walked in, won the NC and then faded over the next 5 years?

I’ve always worried far more about DeBoer being our Mark Richt than our Larry Coker. I have no doubt he’s good enough to win 9-10 games a year. Is he made of the right stuff to take the step beyond that? I hope so but think there are reasons to be concerned.

Agree. It definitely is not the most talented team in the country. Stars have a little value but to act as though they are some precise measurement of a player’s talent is a BIG mistake.

It could’ve been a lot worse. I think it’s “better” that we beat the teams we were supposed to struggle with and lost to two teams we should’ve destroyed. Alabama just has to play consistently good football and stop playing down to the opponent. The Coaches can fix this bad attitude faster than if our failures were caused by bad / no talent. CKD gets a solid B from me.

DeBoer’s First Year
This can be obsessively picked apart, but in short here's the situation.
He took over a team that wasn't his. A team he didn't know, and an offense with a really bad quarterback.
He beat one of our two main rivals, went 9-3 and kept us in the playoff hunt until the very end. The recruiting class is great and he secured the number 2 quarterback in the country, the quarterback he wants.
The guy gets a B+.

You're retarded.
Can’t tell what point you’re making. Are you disagreeing with the poster’s assertion that the program is worse off than it was at this time last year?
