I hope he wins it and locks it down for the next two years

The Cooper Bateman era is on the horizon.

not sure he is morman

He certainly has the talent. He looked a bit too passive this past season, but maybe more reps will bring him along.
I just hope we trim the fat soon. Five guys splitting reps into camp last year did more harm than good, IMO. Only four this year, but still.

Saban wasn't this confident about the QB situation in the spring the past two years. He seems pretty sold on Bateman. It's a good sign I think.

Ya McCarron was the same way I think in the beginning of his first year starting. More reps and hopefully can play with some more confidence and make quick decisions.

Why don't they give a gritty game manager award?
Our QB's would win it every season IMHO

Bateman is the logical choice unless one of the younger guys just blows past him and can protect the ball while doing so. People tend to forget that Bateman isn't some scrub we picked up off the walk-on circuit, dude was a 4-star, elite 11 QB and a top 100 player in the country out of high school. He has more pedigree than either Sims or Coker had coming out of HS. He just needs reps and confidence.

Yea, I agree. I think Bateman can absolutely be an adequate QB for us. His big thing was adjusting to the speed of the game and confidence. If he has gotten past both of those then he should be good to go. Doesn't have a huge arm, but he has an SEC adequate arm, and he can run. He will be more prepared than the hastily put together Ole Miss game plan was, too.

I'm fine with Bateman if he becomes the guy. He diff look shell shocked against ole miss, but he obviously wasn't ready. A lot can change over a year. Possibly our smallest arm on the roster, but still enough to throw it down field occasionally.

I don't think his arm is as weak as some of you are making it out to be. He doesn't have a rocket, but he was able to make some nice short and mid-range passes last year with good velocity. His deep ball is unknown because we didn't really get to see it, but I suspect he will be fine there too as deep passes are as much about touch and accuracy as raw power.

Yep. We badly wanted the read option game to be there, but Cooper had probably never run that against a live, hitting defense and they were asking him to make those decisions on the fly against a pretty terrifying group of defenders.
I have full faith and confidence in Lane Kiffin taking a kid and having him ready for the season in that capacity.

Yea, I think that is what CC is saying. He isn't Brandon Avalos, but he definitely has average arm talent. So did G-Mac and JPW, and Bateman has more athleticism than they did.

If Bateman can be a more athletic version of GMac, we will all very very pleased I think.

I don't know that more really needs to be said than this right here.
Even before Kiffin, Saban's record of picking a winner at QB was rock solid. Kiffin just took it to another level with what he's done with Sims and Coker.
I was hoping Barnett would be the guy for the chance at a 3 year starter with a big arm but if it is Bateman, then I have no doubt he'll be a winner.
And there are far worse things to have at QB than a GMac with wheels.....

I think we can all agree that Bateman, in his limited action, practice reports and prep resume, is an option that everyone is more confident in than we were with Blake or Coker (even those of us who loved Blake and desperately wanted him to succeed).
Bateman was a highly recruited kid who played in a talentless high school area and needed major time to adapt to SEC football. He has a skillset that is plenty good enough to win football games in the SEC, especially with our roster. On top of that, we have a coach who has already shown he can win with guys who are MUCH less polished and ready than Bateman appears to be.
Like GetitRight said, I was hoping Barnett would take the job by the horns and be a star for 3 years. However, I'm totally content with Bateman running the show.
