Where the class of 2023's 50 biggest 'freaks' are playing college football
quote:
NO. 10: RICHARD YOUNG, RB (ALABAMA)
To get a sense of Richard Young’s competitive temperament, consider this: After jumping early and getting DQ’d at districts in the 100-meter dash, Young found a way to make sure he would still run one last time at states. In a win-or-go-home situation a few weeks later, Young ran what was probably his fastest quarter mile ever to punch his 4x400 team's ticket to the state meet as he closed a 20-yard gap and then held on by the hair of his skin for a first place finish at regionals.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Young is a potential workhorse at the next level who has already shown he can take a beating, having averaged 8.8 yards per carry the past three years at Lehigh Acers (Fla.) Senior while totaling 3,591 yards and 33 touchdowns on the ground. What’s even scarier about Young is the fact that he plans to play for the Crimson Tide as Saban & Co. have shown in recent years that they can get the most out of prospects that look like they might already be maxed out – and that’s Young.

No. 11: Kadyn Proctor, OT (Alabama)
Proctor can push an F-150 full of his teammates across the parking lot. Proctor can also dunk at 6-foot-7, 330 pounds. Proctor’s old school mindset stands out, as well. Apparently on his official visit this summer he didn’t want to do a photoshoot with all the other visitors because he had already put on an Iowa jersey five or six times for photos during unofficial visits. Love it. Proctor plays his ball at Southeast Polk in Des Moines.
A longtime Iowa commit, Proctor flipped his commitment to Alabama on Signing Day eve.
quote:
No. 24: Justice Haynes, RB (Alabama)
We’ve got another running back headed to Alabama on the list in Justice Haynes. He’s the son of former NFLer Vernon Haynes, who played at Georgia. As a freshman, the younger Haynes went 4.6 on the lasers in the 40-yard dash and also recorded a 123-inch broad jump to go along with a 4.2 in the shuttle. Those are more than respectable figures for a young teenager, but they are only a piece of the pie. Haynes is also a talented left-handed pitcher who had MLB scouts buzzing this summer as he touched 92 MPH while on the mound. Haynes, who had a 96-yard kickoff return touchdown in Buford’s season opener last week, isn’t one who slacks in the weight room, either. Just check out these late night pylo scissor jumps. Or this 155-pound seesaw row.
quote:
No. 37: Qua Russaw, EDGE (Uncommitted)
Alabama, Auburn and Florida are battling for Qua Russaw, who will announce on Wednesday. He’s a chiseled front-seven defender who’s done a little bit of everything at Montgomery (Ala.) Carver getting looks at defensive end, linebacker, running back and even wide receiver. And while Russaw never did any elite camps or tested anywhere, he finds himself on this year’s Freaks List because of the information that we could find: 11.65 in the 100-meter dash at roughly 238 pounds, a video of him doing a windmill dunk in the gym and a clip of him pulling off a running back handspring like a pro. Russaw also totaled a ridiculous 130 tackles and 16 sacks in 2021 to earn ASWA Class 6A Lineman of the Year honors.

Just saw that.
The future will let us know if that is a good thing. Hopefully just enjoyed the process.

Kind of agree with you. Doesn't he have an announcement? He wouldn't ruin that.

Maybe Mitchell's mission was to gain intel on what/how other teams were pitching.

Haven’t been following recruiting. Are we expecting anyone to commit to us today?

Smith, Russaw, and possibly another DB.
It looks like the TE Luke Hasz will stick with Arkansas.

Well Arch Manning wasn’t the QB that was rumored to flip. He just signed with Texas. I was wanting a Texas melt.
