My understanding is that schools can literally act as marketing agents for the athletes and as long as the funds are paid by a third-party, it isn't subject to the cap.

Mine too. It really just prohibits the use of collectives as slush funds. Instead the individual boosters have to sign agreements with the players for marketing purposes. So it's not Booster Bob, Booster Bill, and Booster Jim pooling their money for a $100,000 pay for play anymore. That has to come from the revenue sharing pot, but there's also nothing stopping them from reaching 3 separate deals for $30-40,000 to have that player sign some autographs and take pictures at their car dealerships.

Apparently we are now pushing hard for DE Kevin Ford out of Duncanville.

But he commits tomorrow and Florida is supposedly his leader.

Tim Watts says this push does not affect Tank Jones' recruitment.

ETA: Steve Wiltfong thinks we will be the choice if things stay on their current course.

When you reference Wiltfong do you mean for Ford or Jones?

We need A LOT of DL. We’re going to have massive turnover the next couple of years without considering inevitable transfers. I could see 3-4 true freshmen getting meaningful snaps next year. Perhaps even starter snaps for one guy.

Twitter is blowing up about KJ to Bama, so they must have read Fong's comments

What do KJ and Tank each project as in our defense? Is one a Bandit vs. a Wolf or would they both play the same position?

Jimmy Stein and Clint Lamb said Tank will likely be a Bandit due to the fact that he’s already pushing 260lbs. But I think that was purely their opinion rather than some intel from someone within the program. No idea how the staff views KJ though - this is the first I’m seeing we are heavily involved in his recruitment. Hope we can get both.

We need A LOT of DL

I would say of any position in college football that D Line is the best one to hit the portal for if you have to. Reason being that it’s better to get guys who are more physically developed than freshmen and there isn’t much of a learning curve from a scheme standpoint. You’re not learning coverages or much of anything beyond what gap to line up in.

Technique and physical development loom large at the LOS too. So experience has a ton of value.

Many Washington fans are now convinced that DeBoer was basically putting forth minimum effort in recruiting because he knew he wasn't going to be there long.

Saban was a hard worker in Baton Rouge but his domination of recruiting was not fully realized until he got to Tuscaloosa. His first full class at UA was immediately an all-timer better than any of his at LSU.

You can almost think of coaching in Tuscaloosa is like a force multiplier on your capabilities. The poor to average ones will probably have a good season or two. The good ones may lift a title or two. The great ones will probably go down as one of the greatest to do it.
