Did the GOAT sign players that he thought would not contribute? I didn’t recruit any of them, Jack wagon.

SEC winners in the 2025 recruiting cycle
quote:
ALABAMA
There is plenty to be excited about around Alabama after Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide inked Keelon Russell, the No. 1 quarterback and the top overall prospect in the Rivals250. The elite quarterback from Texas is one of three five-stars signed by the Tide along with offensive lineman Michael Carroll and cornerback Dijon Lee Jr.
Offensive line was a major strength of this Alabama class – with Carroll and four-stars Micah DeBose, Mal Waldrep and Jackson Lloyd all set to bolster the offense up front.
Defensively, the attention is on the secondary. Lee, a five-star, will be joined by elite cornerback Chuck McDonald, one of the top performers during All-American week in San Antonio, as well as NFL legacy Ivan Taylor.

Ranking the top five quarterback classes in 2025
quote:
1. ALABAMA
Keelon Russell's rise was most impressive based on the elite names the Alabama signee vaulted to get to the very top. It's a strong quarterback cycle and Russell tops the list. His blend of smooth passing mechanics, dynamic movement skills and unmatched success relative to elite competition in leading Duncanville (Texas) High School to state title runs pushed the resume over the top of the others.
Russell, who also won the Elite 11 MVP and took home top honors in the accuracy challenge at Rivals Five-Star last offseason, saved his most impressive work for his senior season and beyond. The Lone Star State's best put together an absurd 55-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio as a passer in 2024 while completing passes at a near 70-percent clip. There was also a rushing element to highlight as Russell moved for more than 300 yards and three more scores, with his total touchdown mark also standing as the best among the nation's elite arms in such a deep cycle.
The run we've seen from Russell makes it tough to believe he won't immediately be the most talented passer in the building for Kalen DeBoer this spring. Last we saw the No. 1 overall recruit, he was dominating the Under Armour All-America Game with both his arm and legs despite an injury scare.

Comparing 2025 five-stars to NFL standouts
quote:
1. QB KEELON RUSSELL: Jayden Daniels
The Alabama signee is a tall, lean quarterback who has phenomenal accuracy and playmaking skills. He is comfortable sitting in the pocket and delivering strikes, but also has the athleticism and intelligence to know when he has to escape and make plays with his feet.
Jayden Daniels was the same way in high school and Russell is even a little ahead in accuracy and in physical stature at the same stage. With Daniels having such an incredible rookie season, if the Chicago Bears could do it over, would they take him with the first overall pick? We didn’t want to have the same regret in the final Rivals rankings, so we moved Russell to No. 1 overall.

12. CB DIJON LEE JR.: Antonio Cromartie
There just are not many realistic comparisons for this new age of cornerback that is not only 6-foot-3 but also super athletic who doesn’t turn like a battleship. We found a good one with Cromartie, who was just like Lee during his heyday at Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln and then at Florida State.
The physical traits and the ball skills are so similar and in high school Cromartie played in all three phases, just like the Alabama signee at Mission Viejo, Calif. Sometimes we fall in love with these big corners only for the NFL to go after 5-foot-11 bulldogs but we think Lee has a really bright future because of his athleticism and versatility.

quote:
15. OT MICHAEL CARROLL: Darnell Wright
This comparison has to do more with style of play and attitude more than anything else and it’s in that vein where we think Carroll is a lot like Wright but with a better body frame and even more versatility.
It would not have shocked us if Wright moved inside at Tennessee or in the NFL especially at 6-foot-6 and 333 pounds and that is similar to Carroll, who dominated as a right tackle at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy but could also move inside if needed. Plus, both play mean and with an edge.

Looks like we are recruiting this QB from Arkansas pretty heavily:

Hard to believe it's been a quarter century since he passed away.
I couldn't even buy alcohol back then.

DT was just THE most dominant college football player I've ever seen. Great size, speed, athleticism, quickness, and smarts. Dude could have literally played TE/WR/RB/DB and been really good at any of those positions too.
Dude was just relentless and never, ever gave up on a play. His film should be shown to all edge rushers/LBs at Alabama, "This is how you should play the game!!!".
Just like film of Landon Dickerson should be shown to all Alabama offensive linemen.

I was fortunate enough to have seen many of his games in person, from his very first action as a freshman against the Buckeyes when he struggled as a young pup, to his absolutely dominant day against Penn State sacking the QB 6-7 times. I recall some criticizing his play against Ohio State when he had no business being 30-40 yards downfield trying to cover WRs like a DB.
I literally shed tears upon hearing about his death, and was nearly as sad when I found out about the crash and his injuries. He lived on the edge and cost himself his own life as a result. It's a shame he had to play under the coaches he did at Alabama. Such a great player deserved better. DT was truly one-of-a-kind.

I was at that game and remember this vividly.

Wish he could have finished out his career and was still around.
