How is it ruining college football?

Without writing a long thesis, my summary is:
If everyone is hurling money at high school kids, then it’s not only bad for the kids, but the sport too. Many of the kids won’t know what to do with that amount of money… but that’s not my biggest grief. My biggest grief is what you already see happening when you combine NIL and the transfer portal. There is no allegiance to your university. Athletes are “shopping” themselves to the highest bidder. Why be loyal to one school, when another school will toss me more money?
Just don’t like it.

No need for that and teachers have nothing at all to do with signing day. He can sign early if he wishes. Any senior with an offer can sign their NLI in the early period but you can't be an EE unless your coursework is complete. This was changed several years ago. If what you state is the case no one but early enrollees could sign early and that's not the case.

I know people in their 40s that don’t know what to do with the money they have. Thats doesn’t mean shouldn’t have it.

It sounds like your beef is with the Transfer Portal but I would disagree with you on that too. If you were offered more money to move to another company, would you not take it?

I'm not a fan of NIL or the transfer portal while still calling the players student athletes or amateurs.
If we're going to pay them and allow free agency just break away from the NCAA and build a league for 18-23 year olds.

And that is why it’s devaluing college football for some fans. It’s free agency every year. That’s not traditional college football.
Heck, even the NFL doesn’t have this year over year free agency.

I can agree with that. Calling many of them student athletes is laughable. I sat by a basketball player in world lit, a long time ago, and I would be beyond shocked if he could read at a 6th grade level.

Oh shite.
He transferred to Buford for his Senior year and now he might sign with Nebraska?
We live in a NIL world.

When you have starting QBs at power 5 programs entering the portal just to fish for a bigger payday, that's not college football. Or at least it shouldn't be. I guess Namath would have finished up at Penn St if he played today.

Sure. I’m not claiming that following the money is wrong. I’m claiming that it’s ruining what I personally enjoyed about college sports (over professional). If I wanted to see what type of players a team could purchase, I would watch the NFL. I watch college football because of the kids that walk-on at their favorite university, or wait their turn to start and end up winning a Heisman.
Under the current situation, you won’t see that underclassmen who comes thru the ranks and ends up starting his junior year and killing it for the team he’s dedicated time to. You’ll see him transfer

Not sure how at this point, but they’re going to have to put some type of cap
on the total amount going to a player or this is gonna get ugly. I just don’t know what that amount should be.

Don't think it's a money thing. His dad played at Nebraska and was in the NFL forever. This kid has bust written all over him though. 3 high schools in 3 years and is about to commit to his 3rd program despite no coaching changes at the first two.

Yeah, this kid is playing musical chairs in high school, and with his college commitment. He will end up in the portal regardless of where he signs

Money is the root of all evil and I'm afraid that it has finally destroyed my all-time favorite sport. I'll continue to watch but I am nowhere near as invested in the sport as I was a decade ago. Things have certainly changed for the worse as far as I'm concerned.

It’s opened pandoras box’s now and there’s no closing it under the current structure.
NFL should create some kind of G-League like the NBA has now. Let these highly rated prospects coming out of high school go develop in a farm system and get paid.
Let the ones that’s not athletically gifted like the highly rated prospects that value education get the scholarships. But only with the understanding that once you sign with the university that your commitment is locked unless it’s some kind of emergency circumstance. If they develop into a NFL talent that’s great also and maybe have a shot in the league.
It’s all about the dollars now. And it’s not the kids fault totally it’s the adults in charge that’s fricked it all up allowing this to happen. The powers at be basically telling these young men, frick traditions and learning team work and getting a valuable education take this money and frick the other nonsense.

A HS student cannot take "official visits" until they have completed their junior year requirements. A HS student cannot sign a grnat-in-aid until the first signing period after they have completed their junior year requirements.
I sounds to me like he may be finishing his final junior year requirements at the end of this semester and finishing hs senior year requiremnts by the end of May.

I agree, I love college football for the same reasons but I think athletes deserving to be paid is more important than my enjoyment.

Sounds like we agree in some capacity.
NIL is Name / Image / Likeness. I have no problem with athletes getting a cut if a jersey is sold with their name on the back. Heck, put them in commercials. But I think it’s getting abused by just offering high school kids 6 figure checks to come play at your school… or offering a guy in the portal a six figure check. Some of these kids are going to make more in college now than they would ever make in the NFL

I believe the actual quote is "THE LOVE of money is the root of all evil." IMHO
