So much for Alabama being Handy's "dream offer". Just commited to LSU.

LSU lands 4-star pass rusher Jaren Handy (Geaux247 - Shea Dixon)
quote:

LSU's Junior Day on Saturday finished off with a big boom for the 2019 recruiting class when New Augusta (Miss.) Perry Central strong-side defensive end  Jaren Handy committed to the Tigers following his visit to Baton Rouge...

"I just verbally committed to LSU," Handy told Geaux247. "I went up there and didn't know any other guys. Me and  Charles (Moore) and  Zach (Edwards) talked and said if us three go there it could be special. They liked LSU a lot. It felt comfortable. Not far from home and my cousin lives there in New Orleans."

A big reason for the 6-5, 260-pound defensive end jumping on board with the Tigers was the vision head coach Ed Orgeron has for him and the way he treated him like family.

"I like him a lot," Handy said. "His message to me when he sat down with me and my family was if I go there, he would treat me like a son and I'd get a good education and get to play football."

Former LSU Tiger and defensive line coach Dennis Johnson broke down film with Handy and Moore, who also said the academic presentation was impressive.

"He took me and Charles Moore into the defensive room and sat down with us and talked about what it's like to be a Tiger," Handy said. "I'll be a defensive end. We watched film and it went good. I liked it a lot. The way they described the academic part was really in depth too and my family really liked that."

Handy ranks as the No. 73 overall prospect in the country, No. 7 strong-side defensive end in the country and No. 6 overall prospect in a stacked 2019 class in Mississippi.

Stick with Geaux247 for the latest on reactions from Junior Day and more commitments.

Bama will probably try to get Jaren Handy to visit very soon. He has recent offers (Jan-Mar) from UA, AU, UGA, LSU, ATM, UF, MSU, OM and UT, but prior to his LSU visit this weekend, he has only visited OM (last weekend). I think he's going to realize he should visit some others and perhaps also realize he made a big decision too hastily.

Yea we see it happen every year. I understand it, it's overwhelming and exciting to visit campuses but L7U is going to land quality players. But they will never be us

Yeah, I basically percieve good players going to LSU as entering a void and will as long as Coach O is there. It sucks if they don't pick us, but at least they are going somewhere where they won't be a threat.

Which is kind of hilarious since they are in our division.

Four-star safety names top eight (BamaOnLine)

quote:

St. Louis (Mo.) Parkway North safety Jalani Williams, the 247Sports Composite's No 18 safety nationally, has named a top eight of Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Penn State in no order.

Williams' last visits were to Oklahoma where teammate Michael Thompson signed in the 2018 class, and Alabama. Florida State was his most recent offer. The Noles offered at the end of February. He previously mentioned trying to get to Ohio State as well.

He will use the spring to get to more visits and continue moving toward a decision.

"I'm just looking for a school with a good coaching staff that I know will be there the whole four years or five years I'm there, education, and the school itself," he said.

Williams has not set a decision date or timeline.

One of the stated reason for the underwhelming 18 signing class was staff turnover.

With even more staff turnover again this year, want that be a even bigger problem this year?

Have we already lost new staff? I thought we just announced hires or are you predicting people leaving? Or are you saying because we hired Kool, Enos, Gattis, and Scott since January that may be a problem? Just not sure what you are trying to convey.

Remaster.... are you ever positive or excited about our recruiting? You are always looking at the negative side of things. It’s fine to be negative every once in awhile , but geez all the time ?

Just wondering. Relationships with recruits are built 2 or 3 years before they sign. With basically a totally new staff, it might be a problem again.

Or staff turnover wasn't a major factor last year and was just listed as a excuse.

Though, we do know Bama lost JJ Peterson due to Pruitt leaving.

Recruits are raving about the new staff and the promoted OC and DC. Try to keep up with what's happening now.

Btw, I pity everyone who's cursed with being around you a lot; e.g., family, coworkers, etc.

There’s a difference in losing elite recruiting assistants over a 2-3 year period and replacing them with inadequate recruiters versus young, energetic recruiters.

But yes, recruiting is about relationships. You build that over time with any signing class. But a lot can be made up, in a short period of time, with charismatic recruiters. Saban seems to have hired quite a few of them.
