I don’t think he would have been a huge contributor this year but happy to have him back on board.
Especially since I think he counts against a dead 25 anyway - meaning he counts as part of the 2018 year max 25 scholarships regardless of when or if he arrives on campus. Basically at this point him coming costs us nothing (he would count against the 85 but we haven’t had much trouble with that number since the 25 hard cap).

Based on his play in the All-Star practices and that film, he has a long ways to go to be a contributor at our level. Will be interesting to see how he develops before he'd sign in 2020. I wonder if he'll still have a spot by then.

No matter, Davis plans to join them come 2020 as the former 4-star weak-side defensive end Tweeted that he is recommitting to Alabama on Saturday night.
"For one I would like to thank God for putting me in the situation I’m in," Davis Tweeted. "This commitment will have a lot of people thinking different. But I’ve been talking to God and I have something to prove. So I would like to announce that I’m recommitting to the University of Alabama."
Davis is currently playing out his freshman season at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi. Through six games, the 6-foot-5, 238-pounder has 30 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He says he was receiving interest from LSU, Florida and Mississippi State, among others.
"Nothing but hard work," Davis said of life at Co-Lin. "I’m glad I came here. My coach stays on me 24/7. Their expectation of me is very high on the team."

Joining Jones and Davis includes 4-star inside linebacker Jackson Bratton from Muscle Shoals (Ala.), 4-star receiver Dazalin Worsham and 4-star cornerback Malachi Moore of Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.), 4-star quarterback Carson Beck of Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin, 4-star cornerback Javier Morton of Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson, and 3-star tight end Caden Clark of Dayton (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban.

Jordan Davis has to attend Juco at least through the fall term of 2020 and graduate from Juco, so he'll play Juco football next season too. January of 2020 is the earliest point he can be eligible to enroll at Bama. Since he'll only have two years of eligibility, he should take classes next summer so he can graduate in Dec 2019, enroll in Jan 2020 and participate in winter S&C, spring practice and summer workouts. How he develops & performs in Juco and our recruiting and projected roster at his position will affect whether Bama takes him coming out of Juco. Time will tell.

These "re-commitments" never turn out well.
Last time a player re-signed with Bama after failing to qualify out of HS was Brandon Hill in 2013. And he was initially a Class of 2012 guy, so it was only a year.
The last time a player who failed to qualify returned to Bama after 2 years at JuCo was Quinton Dial in 2011 after initially committing to the Class of 2009.
Also notice he said he was in contact with players, but no mention of coaches...

He was, got drafted too despite never starting a game at Bama. That's talent.
Point was the last JuCo to re-sign with Bama happened in 2011. Odds aren't exactly in Davis' favor, it's to the point you only take JuCo guys who can immediately contribute or fill a depth hole.
