TOP 2019 OFFENSIVE BACKFIELDS

As we head into the college football season and the slower period for college football recruiting, I thought I’d start a series ranking the best teams at each position for the 2019 class. Instead of just doing quarterbacks, since most schools take just one, I’ll start with quarterbacks and running backs. Here are the best offensive backfields so far …

1. Alabama – Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has a cannon of an arm and Paul Tyson is no slouch at all, either, while running back Keilan Robinson is a home run hitter and great change-of-pace back.

2. Penn State – Dual-threat Ta’Quan Roberson can beat you with his arm and his feet, and five-star Devyn Ford could be the Big Ten’s next superstar running back.

3. Ohio State – After flipping Dwan Mathis at quarterback from Michigan State, he’s a great addition to running back Sampson James.

4. Clemson – Quarterback Taisun Phommachanh has a high ceiling, while running back Chez Melluisi can be dynamic in space.

5. Michigan – The combination of Cade McNamara at quarterback and Zach Charbonnet and Eric Gray at running back make for a loaded offensive backfield.

6. Washington – Dylan Morris is a heckuva quarterback, and Cameron Davis is a beast at running back. It’s a nice 1-2 punch.

Did Rivals just pay us a compliment?

Not really. Biggest thing I took from it is George Pickens is telling both Alabama and Auburn sites he will be in town this weekend.

ETA: Meaning he is telling the Alabama sites like BOL he will be in Tuscaloosa and telling the Auburn sites he will be in Auburn.

He does this a lot. One day he told John Garcia that his recruitment was wide open. Next day told KN he's locked in with AU & only taking visits for fun

So he is James McAvoy from the movie Split, but without the homicidal tendencies?

And neither did this fricking clown.

What's the point of the article if they aren't going to say WHO lands Wright?

Rivals did a real crap job with that. OSU is getting back in with him. There were some articles about The Opening and it just re-enforced how these kids are 16-17 years old.

Wright apparently is a huge high school rival of the OT/OG OSU has committed from West Virginia. Wright said originally he didn't think they would ever be able to go to the same school. Now he has realized that was childish.

Not saying OSU gets him, but that was one of the hurdles, which as I said is hard to believe looking at it as an adult

What’s with Devonta Lee getting three CBs to LSU?

3 Crystal Balls for Devonta Lee to LSU. 2 from Geaux 247 (Embody and Shipp) and 1 from an Ole Miss mod.

ETA: I was posting this as Capstone Grad posted. Maybe they are hearing he is not going to the cookout? Hopefully they are just wrong as the often are.

ETAA: Bud Elliot put in a 4th CB to LSU today.

Shipp: "...Amite's Devonta Lee and Kentwood’s Trey Palmer, I feel good about where LSU stands... I expect both to claim their spot sooner rather than later. That is what I am hearing from multiple sources after they spent the day hanging out at LSU’s Elite Camp in June..." (VIP)

His "multiple sources" on Lee might be Palmer and other players who were at the event. Also: he's not so optimistc about LSU landing Ishmael Sopsher; and Christian Harris will visit Bama on July 28. With Cowan gone, maybe Bama will give Harris the green light.

ETA - Per Tim Watts: Lee came to a Bama camp in June, but he didn't work out. He didn't say why. Bama is in good shape with WR & S targets they like a lot. So they now want to see some of Lee's senior season, before giving him a green light. Lee wants to be at Bama, but might opt to secure a spot in LSU's class before his senior season.

Why does Lee think hanging out instead of working out at camps is ok?

Sources feel that Bama and Michigan are leaders for Dax Hill according to BOL.

But there was a lot of confusion. Basically every team that’s involved with Dax said they felt they were one of the leaders (Ohio st has no shot tho).

Yeah, I read the Daxton Hill nuggets very carefully. It sounds to me like he's done the due diligence he needed to make a wise business decision. I think that applies to Trey Sanders situation too. In both cases it seems to me the correct decision is a no brainer.

Talked to some Oklahoma fans about it too and they’re VERY nervous and mad about it. Those same guys were very confident about a month ago

Fantastic.

I hope Dax becomes a beast like Minkah so they are always reminded about it.

If we lose Cheney, and close with 9 more:

RB: Sanders
WR: Pickens
OL: Webb and Wright
DL: Shospher and Ika
LB: Kayvon T and Dean
DB: Hill

What say you gurus?

Like the picks , that’s who I have on wish list. Love the Pickens if he qualifies and of course flips. But 10 would give us 29 with a possible blue shirt. So with one more and great DB haul last year . I’d say one of Diabate or Harris since linebackers are a big need. I’d think ToOto’o will come . And if none of them then one of Dent or Stevenson because there to good to pass up!!!!

Unfortunately, the 25 per academic year signing limit rule (effective for the 2018 cycle) makes it impossible to blueshirt. That's because initial fall scholarships count against the current academic year siging limit. But you can still greyshirt, because 2nd or 3rd term initial sxholarships can be counted against the next academic year signing limit.

There are posts starting one page back saying Pickens has told UA and AU both that he's visiting them that weekend.

There are some recent posts discussing Pickens grade concerns too, including him potentially transfering to a different HS. A forum search on Pickens should bring them up for you. I haven't seen anyone say they strongly believe he will or won't qualify.
