Nation's No. 1-ranked prospect still considering Alabama

quote:
Kayvon Thibodeaux, the nation's No. 1-ranked prospect according to the 247 Composite rankings, recently narrowed his college choices to five schools and Alabama remains in the mix.
At The Opening last week in Frisco, Texas, Thibodeaux said Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi and Alabama's success in developing defensive linemen have impressed him.
"Right now, it's Coach Lupoi. He's a great guy," Thibodeaux at The Opening. "With him being the d-coordinator and my position coach, and he's a real smart dude. They look like they're going to be on the upside as usual. As long he keeps developing dudes, and I've watched film with him and he's been able to tell me what I do and what I can get better on. It's great. I love getting better."
The Crimson Tide, of course, has sent a steady stream of defensive linemen to the NFL, including first-round pick Da'Ron Payne this year, first-round pick Jonathan Allen in 2017 and second-round picks Jarran Reed and A'Shawn Robinson in 2016.
Thibodeaux, a 6-foot-4 1/2, 234-pounder from Oaks Christian (California), is ranked as the No. 1 defensive end and No. 1 overall prospect in the 247 Composite. His list of five finalist schools included Oregon, Southen Cal, Florida, Florida State and Alabama.
Thibodeaux said he plans to make visits to all five schools before likely making a public commitment in October.
"Hopefully, when I do commit to my school, the other commits find somewhere else to go if they play my position," said Thibodeaux, who projects as a defensive end or possible a Jack linebacker in Alabama's scheme. "Because they won't be playing. I'm coming to play."
Alabama currently has 20 commitments for the Class of 2019, after tight end Jahleel Billingsley, receiver John Metchie and defensive end Byron Young committed to Alabama last week.
Last year at Oaks Christian, Thibodeaux finished with 99 tackles, including 28 for a loss, to go with 20 sacks, six pass break-ups and three forced fumbles.

Auburn High's Mohamoud Diabate trying to narrow college choices before season
quote:
Mohamoud Diabate, one of the state's top uncommitted senior recruits, hopes to narrow his college choices before the high school season starts in late August.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Auburn High defensive end is the fourth rated senior in the state, according to the 247 composite rankings. Among the top five players in the class, only he and Oxford center Clay Webb have yet to commit.
"I plan to take some visits after the dead period before the season starts and hopefully narrow my list down to four or five schools," he said.
Diabate, a four-star prospect, is unsure when he will make a final decision. He does plan to sign during the early period in December and enroll somewhere in January.
Diabate said he is hoping to visit Ole Miss, LSU, Florida and Texas A&M this summer and maybe return to Alabama as well. He also said he is considering Auburn, one of his more recent offers. The Tigers offered Diabate in early June.
"I'm just kind of getting to know them since I got an offer not that long ago," he said of the defending SEC West champions.
Here are Diabate's thoughts on some of the other teams in consideration:
Alabama: "I like that championship culture and the guarantee that you are going to be pushed as hard as you can possibly be pushed. That staff is going to get every ounce of work and talent they can out of you."
Texas A&M: "They are really good in my major (petroleum engineering). I like their defensive scheme a lot and the fan base."
LSU: "It's kind of the same. I like the staff and the scheme. They have a great atmosphere as well, just like A&M, and they have my major."
Diabate, who already has been invited to the 2019 U.S. Army All-American Game and who just came back from The Opening in Texas, had 82 tackles, including 20 for a loss, and 10 sacks as a junior for Auburn.
He is ranked as the 10th best outside linebacker prospect in the nation. He said the heavy recruiting interest this spring and summer hasn't stopped him from preparing for what he hopes will be a banner senior year.
"I wouldn't let that get in my way," he said. "I've really been focusing on getting physically and mentally ready for this season. I think we can have a great year. If everything clicks for us, we'll have a chance to win state."
Auburn High head coach Adam Winegarden raved about Diabate in an AL.com interview earlier this year.
"He's a smart young man," he said. "He does a great job in school, loves the game, studies hit, has all the intangibles. He was voted a team captain by our guys at the end of the season. Mohamoud (Ma-mood) is very well rounded. He has a high motor, great toughness and a competitive drive."
Diabate's other high-profile offers include Florida State, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska and South Carolina.

Someone should remind him that there are typically two DEs and OLBs on the field.

I’m sure this was said in jest.

This is not all that unrealistic:
1) 5* Trey Sanders
2) 4* Devonta Lee
3) 5* Clay Webb
4) 5* Darnell Wright or 4* Evan Neal
5) 5* Ishmael Sopsher
6) 5* Kayvon Thibodeaux
7) 5* Nakobe Dean
8) 5* Daxton Hill
9) ?
ETA: Imo, Evan Neal will be a 5* by Dec.

The great eight.
Just curious, would y'all rather have Evan Neal or Darnell Wright? I haven't watched much film of either.

Neal changed his diet and is working out hard. He's quickly gone from 391 to 360. He has great feet. He could be a 335-lb 5* top-5 OT by Dec. Imo, UA should get him and mom to visit soon, on an OV if necessary. I'd show him that great 8 list and see if he'll grab the NFL-LT spot on it.

Two years from now: "Kayvon Thibodeaux contemplated leaving the Crimson Tide football program after his freshman season due to sparse playing time, only deciding to return to Alabama after championship game heroics"

Neal is better in my amateur opinion. Wright I think has a better frame despite Neal being 6'8", but Neal looks like he has quicker feet and is more of a knee bender. Also, when Neal throws down the anchor a bullrush isn't doing shite to him. He's country strong.

Neal knocked/threw Thibodeaux to the turf a couple of times in 1on1s at The Opening.

Yeah, like I said I think Wright maybe looks better coming off the bus, but Neal looks better to me actually playing or going through drills. He just needs to keep his weight under control.

For 360, Neal is very mobile. Imagine at 335.

I hate this summer dead period. The NCAA is the devil.
Anyway, I liked Neal at the Opening. I don't know anything about Offensive Line play but he looked good in 1 on 1s. He looks like a guy whom the mental and physical is really starting to click and if it all comes together he will become dominant.
