I doubt insiders know how Saban feels about Cheney, and he will be the one making that call. If Cheney decides to leave on his own that’s one thing. But if he really wants to come, we have to find a way. The bridge into metro ATL is too important to burn, especially when it seems we are finally gaining some recruiting traction in that talent rich state.

I’m also not sold on Turnage not having a spot in this class if he wants it, FWIW.

Dude you can repeat posting that and downvoting. I'll use my own eyes and come to my conclusions.

I haven't seen any indications that Turnage may lose his spot. However, he lives in Oxford, MS and visits Ole Miss A LOT. If Bama lands Daxton Hill, a very talented CB like Dent or Stevenson and Devonta Lee, Turnage might flip. We'll see.

ETA: FWIW, I like Turnage, as a DB and as a WR.

Maybe the downvotes were from people who didn't think your conclusions were correct, or felt your posts had too much hyperbole and sounded too authoritative. Obviously, 247Sports' conclusions were very different than yours.

I don’t feel Young has any bearing on Cheney. Young named Alabama his leader months ago. And had long been thought to be a part of the 2019 class. Only recent comments led people to believe otherwise.

I just think we are too quick to chase stars with some of these DL prospects. I like Cheney’s game. I think he could develop into a great prospect for Alabama.

The silly thing about Cheney is it’s not even a star issue. People act like he’s a 2-star instead of a composite 4-star ranked in the top 220 players in the nation.

Makes me think of the naysayers about Dalvin Tomlinson in the 2012 class. He took some time to develop but he was instrumental in 2015 and 2016. Turned into a second round draft pick.

Cheney reminds me a bit of DJ Pettway who also became a big part of that great defense a couple of years ago.

I hope you are talking about looks because they play nothing like each other.

Saint, do you not even have Cheney on our commit list on the front page? Hope I just missed something.

Why don’t you give me your expert analysis breakdown of how differently their playing styles are. I mean with all your NFL coaching experience and all.

They were both a little small coming out of high school. Both solid 4 stars that nobody was really excited about. Both grinders who will get better but will take time to develop. That’s a fair number of similarities in my book.

Simple one plays in the outside the other on the inside. Doubt Cheney will be used as an edge rusher at Bama. Please come back for more of my expert analysis.

To be clear, I'm not judging Cheney. I don't consider myself qualified to do so.

That said, I have seen reports that he hasn't performed well at camps, and A LOT of chatter from reliable "insiders" firmly stating that he won't remain in Bama's class, that he got hardly any attention from coaches the last time he visited, isn't being recruited now, and shouldn't even be listed as a commit. UA is an easy trip for him, but he wasn't at the Champions Cookout.

Cheney's current rankings:
Rivals - 3*, #36 SDE, unranked, #56 in GA
ESPN - 4*, #12 DT, #98 player, #12 in GA
247sports - 4*, #18 DT, #326 player, #30 in GA
Composite - 4*, #13 DT, #218 player, #23 in GA
His Rivals and ESPN rankings differ greatly, and his 247sports ranking is in between those two.

I thought you were wrong because Cheyney had good film. Unlike some people (definitely not you) I actually know football and can form my own opinions; I'm not a sheep which needs narratives fed to me.

With that said my stance has changed on Cheyney. We have seen him at three different camps struggle mightily.

Film don't lie, no matter how much some want it to.

Cheyney isn't as explosive as I thought and he doesn't have great moves. He's a decent prospect, but a definite project who won't contribute for some years.

This is open to anyone who evaluates film. What is Cheney's expected role if he attends UA and what about his current film shows he is not capable of doing it? I am perfectly open to people not thinking he is good enough, but I'm not clear what the arguments are. We have had a number of guys on the Dline over the years that I wouldn't consider explosive or as athletic as other guys. Or we saying this guy physically and/or talent wise can't fill any role on our Dline?
