Anoma

I think the biggest setback for Anoma was more his lack of experience in football in general. I believe I read somewhere that Anoma only picked up football as a HS junior. While super talented, he was and is extremely raw. Learning to maintain leverage, stay in his rush lane, etc. were all new concepts to him.

I disagree with Moses being more lost than Mac and if he was he showed a lot.more effort chasing people down lol

The staff couldn't even trust him to do anything in pass coverage for the first half of the season. Even the brain dead announcers were noticing that every play we either had him run blitz or pass blitz. I get that we all want to hate on Mack, but Moses was struggling as badly as Mack at ILB without having the added excuse of being the signal caller on defense. Arbitrarily saying he showed more effort chasing people down has nothing to do with that.

Someone else started a separate thread, but I figured I would bring it up in here. Kyriq McDonald and Scott Meyer entered the transfer portal. I wonder if that will free up some scholarships down the road.

Maybe we should just eliminate the ability to start any other threads and post everything in this one thread -- and we could just rename it "THE MOTHERFRICKING GIGATHREAD"

Moses was really trying to account for himself and Mack. And, I'm not dissing Mack but Moses has a better grasp on the defense.

I think his ADHD is more of an issue.
“I’m really trying to lock in, but I can’t sometimes. It’s like I’m there, but I’m not there,” Anoma said. "I’m dealing with it. It’s a day-to-day thing. During training camp, we’re learning base. I’m right there. I’m learning everything. In my mind, I paid attention and everything, and when I got to the field, it’s gone.”

We are really rewriting history here. Literally early part of the season insiders were saying the exact opposite. Mack was trying to account for himself and Moses because he was so lost out there. Moses improved this season for sure, I am hopeful he will be great for us next year, but there is no reason to outright change the past to fit a narrative.

I hadn't read that. Appreciate the added information. He reminded on film from HS that was basically told to "tackle the guy with the ball" and screw technique.

After 25 years in education with the first 13 spent coaching, I have seen a shite load of those kids with ADHD!!! So much so, that I went from looking like an 80's Glam Rocker to James Spann in gym shorts!!

It killed me all the time in highschool on the O-line. Be able to pay attention in practice, get the plays down, Step on the field and just blank completely on the play call

Took several arse chewings my junior and senior years in HS from our OC, because the formation and play call often ended up different than what he wanted. I was the QB and coach always sent plays in with receivers. Problem was, he used guys that had the attention spans of a gnat. Often times, I only got part of the formation or play.

It often went like this....Me: what's the play?
WR: coach said something about 26!
Me: power or counter?
WR: I don't remember!!
Me: Holy Shite!!!

LINK ]Miami QB target Beck decommits from Alabama (InsideTheU)

quote:

Jacksonville Mandarin 2020 four-star quarterback Carson Beck has officially opened his recruitment back up according to a tweet from Dan Hicken.

The news isn’t all that surprising. Beck, who had been committed to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide since June, attended Junior Days at both Miami and Florida this past weekend.

"I feel like those two schools are definitely at the top of where I can see myself going," Beck told InsideTheU on Sunday. "Not really one of them has jumped out. Like I said I want to keep building relationships with different coaches and different players and kind of see where I might fit best."

New Miami offensive coordinator Dan Enos, who initially helped recruit Beck to Alabama when he worked in Tuscaloosa, was in Jacksonville last week and has a strong relationship with Beck.

"I think with Coach Enos and Manny Diaz there they are going to change the culture there and kind of what quarterback is about at Miami especially with Coach Enos there,” Beck told InsideTheU. “It's definitely exciting what they are doing, so I want to check it out ... When Coach Enos moved from Alabama to Miami he just kind of told me that he wants me [at Miami] and that he wants to build the program around me. He said I'm their No. 1 guy and that they are going to recruit me hard."

Beck isn't expected to make a decision anytime soon and could also visit Georgia Tech at some point in the future. "Probably before summer," he said on Sunday. "So in the spring to summer time range."

The 6-3.5, 214-pound quarterback is listed as the nation's No. 10 pro-style quarterback prospect for the next cycle. The two-sport star, who was at one time committed to UF for baseball, threw for 39 touchdowns and 3,546 yards this past season helping Jacksonville Mandarin capture an 8A state title.

LINK ]QB Carson Beck de-commits from Alabama (Swamp247)

quote:

Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin 2020 quarterback Carson Beck announced his de-committed from Alabama on Monday night during an interview with 1010XL radio out of Jacksonville. The 6-foot-3.5, 215 pound signal caller had been committed to the Crimson Tide since last June.

Beck is fresh off a visit to Florida on Saturday. He then traveled to Miami on Sunday. The Gators sent a coach by Beck’s school last Friday, while the Hurricanes were by on Thursday. Both teams have been considered in good shape to flip Beck for several weeks now, as his pledge to Alabama appeared shaky at best.

Florida and Beck have a history. He was previously committed to the Gators to play baseball before he gave a pledge to Alabama for football last summer. Beck is now done with baseball and plans to focus solely on football moving forward.

Florida head coach Dan Mullen and his track record with quarterbacks is something Beck appreciates. He noted Mullen's history after his most recent visit to UF.

“He obviously has a lot of intelligence with quarterbacks, he’s known as a quarterback whisper or whatever you want to call him. He’s a great developer and he believes firmly in developing a quarterback. If you’re not going to go to a college to get developed, then why are you going to a college. He definitely wants me here, and he told me that. We will kind of see how the future goes and narrow this down.”

Beck does not appear as if he will make an extremely quick commitment. In fact, he wants to take a couple months to sort things out before announcing his next pledge.

“Sometime before summer. I feel like that would be plenty of time to obviously right now go to colleges and then during the spring time go to colleges and figure it out, maybe narrow it down to three or four schools and really decide where I want to be.”

As a junior, Beck completed 209 of 356 passes for 3,546 yards and 39 touchdowns to eight interceptions. The 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, currently ranks Beck as the nation’s No. 240 overall prospect and No. 10 pro-style quarterback.

LINK ]Florida's Mr. Football Carson Beck back on the market (247Sports)

quote:

Arguably the most coveted junior quarterback prospect in Florida is back on the market. Reigning Mr. Football and 2018 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin state champion Carson Beck has backed off of his verbal commitment to Nick Saban and Alabama he told 247Sports Monday evening. “I'm just making sure that I make the right decision. Also making sure I'm not closing off possible opportunities by being committed."

Following his breakout 2018 campaign -- in which he threw for 3,546 yards and 39 touchdowns -- offers continued to come in despite the pledge to the defending SEC Champions that dates back to June 2018. Since, Miami, Florida State, Georgia Tech and others have joined the offer list. Florida, where he was once committed on the baseball diamond, extended a football offer just before he gave word to the Crimson Tide.

Over the weekend the 6-foot-4, 214-pound prospect took junior day visits to both Florida and Miami, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. 247Sports sources indicate these two programs are likely to be major players for the 247Sports Composite four-star prospect, with Florida gaining the first 247Sports Crystal Ball selections late in the week. A final decision isn’t yet to be expected in the short term, however.

The Crimson Tide remains in the hunt as well, he confirmed. "Alabama is an amazing place and it could end up being the place that I decide I want to be," he said." But I'm going to open it up. Obviously I have a handful of schools that I'm looking into already."

Set to focus completely on football for the first time, Beck threw for a state record five touchdown passes in the state championship victory. He is currently considered the No. 10 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2020 according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings.

LINK ]Beck decommits from Alabama (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Carson Beck has reopened his recruitment and decommitted from Alabama, he confirmed to BamaOnLine on Monday night. Dan Hicken of Sports Den on 1010XL-92.5 FM was first to report. The news comes on the heels of the 4-star quarterback taking unofficial visits to Florida and Miami this weekend.

The Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin product had called himself a Crimson Tide commitment since last summer, but after his two main recruiters in Dan Enos and Brent Key left Tuscaloosa, Beck had second thoughts about his pledge.

“I’m just reeling it all in,” Beck told BamaOnLine shortly after his recruiters left the staff in January. “I talked to Coach (Nick) Saban a few nights ago, he was just saying even with all this happening, we’re still going to recruit you, obviously we’re still very interested in you, obviously we still want you. He said they’re going to try and get the best coaches that they can back in, and usually they do. I’m just going to wait and see who they’re going to hire, get to know those people — since all the people that recruited me originally have left, besides Coach Saban. Just kind of see who gets back in, build a relationship with those guys, and kind of see where we’re at from there.”

Beck's father says the Tide is still a top contender to land his son. "Carson had an opportunity to speak with Coach (Nick) Saban and (offensive analyst) Coach (Jake) Peetz ... great conversation," Chris Beck said. "Alabama is still top choice ... opened up recruiting to make sure he is making the best final decision.

"Carson is still planning on visiting Alabama soon to meet the new staff. They have been consummate professionals and feel he is doing this the right way. They reiterated how Carson is their top priority at QB and are in communication with him."

At 6-foot-3.5, 214 pounds, Beck is rated the No. 10 pro-style quarterback and the No. 240 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Last season, helping guide Mandarin to the Class 8A state championship, Beck threw for over 3,500 yards and 39 touchdowns on the way to being named Mr. Football in the state of Florida for 2018.

Beck's departure leaves Bama with 10 commitments in its 2020 class, still good for the No. 1 class in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.

Stay tuned to BamaOnLine for more details on this breaking story.
