Someone else started a separate thread, but I figured I would bring it up in here. Kyriq McDonald and Scott Meyer entered the transfer portal. I wonder if that will free up some scholarships down the road.

I track roster changes and scholarship numbers. These LINK ]Roster and LINK ]Transfer Portal links are on the 2nd line of this thread's 1st post to provide convenient access to all of that information.

Not complaining about Saban so no need to feel offended to some but I wish it was easier to get SOME playing time here and there especially in blowouts .So what if they make a mistake. It might keep some around longer

Runs counter to the process. The players who do the right things in practice/weight room or are ridiculously talented are also the ones who get on the field with the 2's.

According to McDonald's RollTide.com Bio:

quote:

Redshirt Freshman (2018) Filled a role in the Tide secondary and on special teams after redshirting his first season ... totaled seven tackles and a quarterback pressure through 11 games of action in his redshirt freshman campaign ... named one of the Alabama coaches’ special teams players of the week for his play against Mississippi State and Auburn. Louisville: Totaled two tackles in his first collegiate action. Arkansas State: Recorded two tackles for a second straight week and added one quarterback hurry against the Red Wolves. Ole Miss: Made one stop against the Rebels. Texas A&M: Saw time on special teams against the Aggies but did not collect any stats. Louisiana: Recorded one tackle in the Tide’s contest against ULL. Arkansas: Played in Fayetteville but came away with no stats. LSU: Worked on special teams against the Tigers. Mississippi State: Earned special teams player of the week accolades from the UA coaches for his efforts on both coverage units. The Citadel: Saw time against the Bulldogs but did not collect any stats. Auburn: Recorded one tackle on kickoff coverage to limit a potentially big gain ... earned special teams player of the week accolades from the Alabama coaching staff for his efforts in the Iron Bowl. Georgia: Worked on special teams in the SEC title game but did not collect any stats.

And after earning a schollarship in the preseason of 2018 Meyer's bio shows:
quote:

Redshirted in his first season with the Tide before working at long snapper in 2017 ... saw time against The Citadel in 2018.

Seems he snapped more than Fletcher in 2017 but only got to play against The Citadel in 2018 (must have been the handwriting for him?)

He played plenty this past year, this seems more like a personal thing.

We don’t know that he hasn’t done the right things. If not he probably wouldn’t have played at all. Just saying that our rotations / substitutions seem odd and nonexistent at times especially blowout games when starters are still in the game with less than 5 minutes in the game . Increases chance of injury, builds little to no depth and players like McDonald, N. Harris, Anoma etc contemplating leaving. I think our defense was give out at the end this year bc of this . JMO

Ishmael Sopsher's Senior Highlights

He needs to lose some weight, but you can see how talented he is. However, if you watch Devonta Lee's film (linked below) you can see Sopsher loafing around a lot.

Devonta Lee Highlights

At this point the ball is in Sopsher's court. Does he want to put in the work to be special or is he going to be lazy and waste his talent?

Let’s be honest though, this has been a part of the “process” since the beginning. It just caught up with us this year. It happened in 2017 as well. We ran out of gas, and we couldn’t finish. If we win it this year, no one questions any of the process. It just comes up because the computer coaches want to second guess Saban’s decisions. Who knows, maybe he makes some adjustments like he did with the offense, and we see more players get game action to develop the backups. Either way, he is the GOAT, and I am going to trust him.

McKinnley Jackson's coach says Brian Baker still lives in Starkville and commutes to Tuscaloosa every day.

Naturally some people are concerned he may not plan on being on staff for more than a year. However, his daughter is a Senior in high school in Starkvegas so hopefully he's just letting her finish her school year with her friends and he moves this Summer.

Or perhaps people should just chill the frick out and realize it takes more than a week to find a house to buy.

Oh I have always questioned his substitutions especially at Qb position. It got better with Tua last year but he has always put the Qb in with couple minutes to hand off knowing he will be the man the next year

DL this year was awful though

Yep. At least Mathis and Ray got lots of time and both did a very good job when they got their chance.

He needs to have a wake up moment like Evan Neal had when the NFL lineman told him he wouldn't draft him because he was a fatty. Cochran is the best in his field but he isn't a miracle worker. He can only help someone who wants to help himself.

I wouldn't be shocked if he is a one year hire. Bo is always going to be Saban's go to and the second he can get it past compliance he probably will be back.

Insiders have said the dropoff was that bad though from the exhausted 1's to the 2's and 3's... at some point fundamentally I think Saban refuses to accept a dropoff at a position if it becomes to great.

Ray is gonna be solid but he is gonna have to work hard because Alfano is gonna show up and push hard for playing time.
