With the numbers game and emergence of a TE need/targeted recruit (whose film actually looks really good), does it appears Williams will be the odd one out?
If he cancelled his OV, the staff must feel really good about landing someone still on the radar perhaps at a position of need I would guess

I really hope that we don't bulk Alfano up too much.
Can't upvote this enough. He is the kind of player that does not need massive size to be elite on the DL. Last thing we want is to bulk him up and slow him down in the name of supposedly being a better run stopper.

I think bulking hindered Da'shawn Hand a lot. He put on roughly 30 pounds at Bama but he was extraordinarily strong so was the bulking really all that necessary? Alfano is bigger than Hand by 20 pounds entering Bama and he's a strong, quick kid. I don't want Alfano to lose his explosiveness.

The final 247Sports 2019 Class rankings have been revealed, and it's no surprised to see Alabama well represented.
Defensive lineman Antonio Alfano receives well-deserved attention as the No. 1 overall player in the class. Right behind Alfano, however, is five-star tailback LINK ]Trey Sanders, who finishes at No. 14 overall after picking the Crimson Tide over Georgia in December.
“This fall playing at IMG Academy, whether it was against Hoover, Mater Dei, the biggest games, he showed up,” said 247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons. “The same can be said for what he did in all-American settings, both the Polynesian Bowl and the All-American Bowl.
"When he touches the ball, he’s just a different speed. Because of his complete skill set as a bigger back with speed, can catch the ball out of the backfield, he can do everything you want. Alabama is so loaded at running back but he’s going to be able to really fight for some playing time."

Sanders finishes behind John Emery Jr. of LSU for the top running back slot in the nation. Upcoming SEC West opponents will likely fear both backs for at least the next three seasons. What was the difference maker?
“I think it’s really just reviewing senior film,” Simmons said. “It comes down to the way John Emery impacts the game offensively and the explosive nature of his game carrying the football. He’s physical. You can see him absolutely running through people, running over people, but he’s also got tremendous explosiveness. … As good as Trey Sanders is, he doesn’t have the same juice as John Emery in terms of the big-play ability.”
The Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy product plans to get to Tuscaloosa in May and compete for carries early, especially considering the Tide’s two leading rushers in Damien Harris and Josh Jacobs are gone.
“That’s been kind of the plan even before (Jacobs) declared for the (NFL) Draft,” Sanders told 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman. “It was always the plan to come in and play early. (Nick Saban) is trying to play some freshmen to get them used to it.”
Alabama has had some staff turnover in recent weeks. Sanders committed and signed with the Tide despite his primary recruiter Mike Locksley leaving. He hasn’t been told who the next offensive coordinator will be, but he’s not worried about that.
“That’s not really a problem for me because I know Coach Saban will always have the best coaches around him,” Sanders said. “That won’t ever be a problem. I’m going in to work hard regardless.”

Hand was one of if not the top rookie defensive lineman this year. I dont think size was the issue. I think he needed to be playing inside.

He had the skillset to play outside. He bulked up and we still needed him outside and he didn't have the explosion. The point we are making is that Alfano can be an elite rush end for us, no point in bulking him up for no reason.

Tide lands 22 in final Top247 Rankings
quote:
247Sports unveiled its final update to the Top247 Rankings for the 2019 class on Wednesday.
Here’s a look at changes involving Alabama’s commitment and signee list.
As reported on Tuesday, four Alabama signees finished with 5-star grades, most notably being Antonio Alfano who was crowned the No. 1 player in the country.
“What this boiled down to for us was, what’s he missing? He had every box checked,” 247Sports’ Director of Scouting Barton Simmons said during the 247Sports rankings reveal broadcast. “He’s 6-foot-4, 275 pounds. He’s got 11-inch hands, which is huge, 34-inch arms, a 4.8 40 (yard dash), which is freakish at that size, a 37-inch vertical jump. So all of the testing numbers are there. Okay, turn on the film. The film is phenomenal. His numbers, 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss, dominates competition everywhere he’s been.
“Then he goes into the All-American Bowl. Truly, you couldn’t block him. He’s got versatility. He can play on the defensive end in any scheme. He can be a 4-3 D-end, a 3-4 D-end. He could blow up physically and become an interior guy, a true 3-technique. He could be, right now, probably effectively play a 3-4 outside linebacker as a stand up, edge rusher. I just think there’s so much to like.”
Along with Alfano in the 5-star range is running back Trey Sanders at No. 14, cornerback Jeffery “Scooby” Carter at No. 30 and offensive tackle Evan Neal at No. 32.
Despite not earning 5-stars, several additional Alabama commits finished very highly rated.
Edge rusher Khris Bogle made the move to No. 49 in the country up from No. 60 after his performances at both the All-American and Polynesian Bowls. The Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons product committed to the Tide earlier this month, but is still mulling over offers from Florida and Miami. His mom caught up with BamaOnLine on Tuesday to give the latest.
Four-star inside linebacker Christian Harris made a big move after impressing at the All-American Bowl. He lands in the Top100 at No. 71, up from No. 144. Harris has never played inside linebacker, spending his high school career at cornerback and wide receiver, so the sky is the limit in terms of potential.
Four-star defensive line commit Byron Young had a strong showing in San Antonio earlier this month, earning him the No. 76 spot in the nation, up from No. 90. Young says he’s still firm with the Tide, but is considering LSU and the Mississippi schools after not signing early.
Other Tide signees in or around the Top100 include: defensive end Justin Eboigbe at No. 70, offensive tackle Pierce Quick at No. 73, offensive tackle Amari Kight at No. 101, defensive back Brandon Turnage at No. 102, and safety DeMarcco Hellams at 107, up from No. 133 after a nice outing at the Polynesian Bowl.
Moving along within the Top247, future Jack linebacker Kevin Harris is in at No. 117, 4-star corner Marcus Banks is at No. 136, and 4-star linebacker King Mwikuta ends at No. 143.
Beyond the 150 mark, 4-star inside linebacker Shane Lee is up a few spots to No. 156 as is 4-star defensive end Braylen Ingraham landing at No. 165, up from No. 174.
Tide quarterback commit Taulia Tagovailoa, hampered by injury to end the season, finished at No. 180. Other notable Tide signees in that range include 4-star offensive line signee Tanner Bowles at No. 186, and making his debut in the Top247, Darrian Dalcourt at No. 199.
Rounding out Alabama’s representation in the Top247 is cornerback Christian Williams who finished at No. 219 and defensive lineman DJ Dale at No. 239.
Stay tuned to BamaOnLine for final 247Sports Composite Rankings updates in the days to come.
