SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM
“I think LSU has the edge. LSU has already said they’re going to take his brother and that’s what he wants. I don’t know if Alabama is going to have room. He’s come out and said he’s only going where they’re going to take his brother and LSU has already agreed to that apparently so I think he’s going to LSU.
“He missed some reps at Under Armour because he didn’t have a helmet and he didn’t look good all week. He just didn’t look dominant. He has a lot of upside still, but I’m not sure about the motor, not sure how much he loves dominating football. It’s a big get for LSU because they can’t let a kid like that leave. If he turns out to be something and he goes elsewhere, it’s a big loss, so they have to keep him in-state.”
I don't want him anymore to be honest. Give me Pickering and Young and call it a day.

All-American Bowl: Stock report after the week in San Antonio
quote:
SAN ANTONIO – Nearly 100 of the top football prospects took part in the 2019 All-American Bowl, providing one last evaluation opportunity before the final rankings for the class are cemented. Here is a look at those who improved their stock and those whose stock is falling after the week in San Antonio.

STOCK UP
quote:
Antonio Alfano
Alfano just made the move up to five stars in the most recent update of the Rivals100 and there is not much more room for the Alabama signee to move up, but he deserves mention here because arguably no one was better this week than the New Jersey native. Alfano was actually one of the smaller defensive tackles in the game, but offensive linemen could not keep him out of the backfield. The impressive performance was capped when he registered a sack among several tackles in the game.
Uh, he's ranked #22 overall. There is plenty of room for him to move up. He should be Top 5.

Byron Young
One of the few unsigned prospects participating in this All-American Bowl, it is easy to see why so many schools are holding spots open for Young into the late signing period. Listed as a strongside end, Young primarily lined up at the three-technique defensive tackle role for the East team and showed very well in that role. Young has that skill set that works heads up on the tackle or inside, and his versatility is complemented by the fact that he is a very talented defender.

Would love to have Young and To’oto’o. Would really like to hang onto Willians too but that seems like it is not happening. Get those two and call it a day

All-American Bowl: The Gorney Awards

SAN ANTONIO - The All-American Bowl is in the books, with the East beating the West 48-14. After following practices all week and watching the game, here are the Gorney Awards.

BULL MARKET
This goes to the player who raised his stock the most during the week and Michigan signee Christopher Hinton proved he should once again be in the five-star discussion. The four-star defensive end absolutely dominated every practice session. He has great size, he moves well and nobody could block him.
Honorable mention: Especially in the game with five touchdown passes, Wisconsin quarterback signee Graham Mertz proved he could be higher in the rankings and South Carolina QB signee Ryan Hilinski had a great week of practice. Texas safety signee Tyler Owens was outstanding during the week, Alabama commit Marcus Banks could move up, Nebraska DE signee Ty Robinson looked the part, Florida State safety commit Nick Cross was consistently great and Alabama DE signee Antonio Alfano is already a five-star, but he dominated all practices.

BEAR MARKET
This award is not one that you want; it's for the player whose stock dropped the most. Quavaris Crouch pulled out of the first practice with a shoulder injury and then didn’t make much of an impact the rest of the week. Is he a running back? Is he a linebacker? The former No. 1 player in the 2019 class is now rated No. 30 and that seems too high after his week in San Antonio.
Honorable mention: From a physical standpoint, it’s hard to justify Alabama QB signee Taulia Tagovailoa just outside the Rivals100. Plus, after one practice he was slowed for the rest of the week. Wake Forest WR signee Nolan Groulx came into the event ranked No. 74 after an outstanding summer, but that is a touch high. For a four-star linebacker, Clemson signee Kane Patterson was largely unnoticed during the week.
I love how Rivals just continues to overlook Lia's injury.

FANCY FEET
This award goes to the player with the best feet, whether it's an offensive lineman or a cornerback, big man or mighty mite. We’re giving this one to Alabama running back signee Trey Sanders, who just looks different on the football field compared to the other backs. He’s so powerful but also so sudden, he can run between the tackles or catch it out of the backfield. Sanders can do everything.
Honorable mention: Oklahoma’s five-star quarterback signee Spencer Rattler evaded pressure with quick feet, Texas WR signee Jordan Whittington doesn’t have fantastic straight-line speed but he could put moves on any cornerback. Oregon OL signee Jonah Tauanu’u is incredibly light on his feet for someone who is at least 280 pounds and Indiana signee Tiawan Mullen is bouncy and makes plays all over the field.

THE SNUGGIE
This is for the player who provided the best coverage on defense during the week. There are a lot of names who could’ve taken home this coveted award but I’m going with Alabama commit Marcus Banks, who was always around the football, tipping passes away and generally making it difficult for receivers to get open at all.
Honorable mention: Florida commit Chris Steele is so physical that receivers couldn’t do a whole lot. Georgia pledge Tyrique Stevenson is aggressive at the line of scrimmage and through the route. Cameron Smith made a bunch of impressive tackles in the game, and then Noa Pola-Gates, Kyle Hamilton, Tiawan Mullen and Keontra Smith are others who should be recognized.

MR. CONSISTENCY
This award goes to the player who was simply good all week long and could be relied upon to bring it each and every day. Alabama defensive tackle signee Antonio Alfano came to San Antonio to compete and he was unstoppable, especially during the week of practice. There wasn’t a rep where he didn’t give 100 percent.
Honorable mention: Mississippi State OL signee Charles Cross was consistently dominant all week and he had an impressive showing. Hinton, Mertz, Hilinski, Rattler, Ty Robinson, USC defensive end signee Drake Jackson, Florida linebacker signee Tyron Hopper and Georgia defensive end signee Nolan Smith are a few others who deserve recognition.

You mentioned on the SECRb that you knew a coach close to Pickering's recruitment.
What gives?

All-American Bowl: Winners and losers from Saturday's game
quote:
SAN ANTONIO -- The annual All-American Game is books, with the East squad running away with a 48-14 victory. The on-field team winners were clear from the early going, but what about the college programs that should feel like winners after the event? We examine the fan bases that should be feeling good about the game and those that might feel not as a great.

Alabama
Crimson Tide fans may have missed out on the chance to see injured quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa play in the game but they did get to watch the school add two more big-time commits as Rivals250 prospects Marcus Banks and Khris Bogle made their pledges to the program during the nationally-televised event. Banks also made his share of plays in the game, showing why he was a priority for Alabama. Recently-signed linebacker Christian Harris also made a few big tackles in the game.

Four-star DE Khris Bogle makes his pick
quote:
SAN ANTONIO – Among the big college selections announced at the All-American Bowl on Saturday was Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons four-star defensive end Khris Bogle, who came into the announcement with a final four of Alabama, Florida, Miami and Tennessee. Bogle chose Alabama during the second quarter on Saturday.

WHY IT’S BIG FOR ALABAMA
Alabama’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class already has three defensive ends signed, but none quite like Bogle. The tall and lean edge rusher looks like he should be playing small forward on the basketball court, but surprises you with his level of strength at the point of attack for a skinny defensive end.
Bogle does bring that bouncy athleticism to the position that is difficult for offensive tackles to handle, and combined with his strength proves to be a very effective pass rusher. Alabama is holding onto a slim lead over SEC foe Georgia for the No. 1 recruiting class in 2019. Adding Bogle to its numbers is a big boost in its quest to regain the top spot after a one-year hiatus.
Slim?

OTHER SCHOOLS IMPACTED
Tennessee hosted Bogle for an official visit last spring and was part of his final four, but this would have been a huge shock had the South Florida native picked the Volunteers. Jeremy Pruitt and his staff are still looking for defensive ends in this class, but they already have their sights set elsewhere. For Dan Mullen at Florida, the goal is to rack up wins in-state. The Gators did not get this one, but have already signed a dozen from their home territory in the 2019 class and continue to contend for others.
The biggest impact here is undoubtedly felt by Miami. The Hurricanes have had a tumultuous last month, with several big misses on National Signing Day, Mark Richt stepping down as head coach and Manny Diaz being named his replacement. Diaz was also the primary recruiter for Bogle before he left for a brief stint as Temple’s head coach, and not being able to reel him in late will sting for the Hurricanes' new head coach.

All-American Bowl: Rivals250 DB Marcus Banks picks Alabama
quote:
SAN ANTONIO -- Alabama added one of the final pieces to its 2019 recruiting class on Saturday afternoon as Rivals250 defensive back Marcus Banks made his commitment to the Crimson Tide during the annual All-American Bowl on NBC. Banks chose Alabama over Texas A&M, Florida and Florida State, ending a recruitment that saw plenty of twists and turns, including a longtime commitment to LSU.

WHY IT'S BIG FOR ALABAMA
Banks has been a key target for Alabama since the early fall and the Tide's heavy push was a main reason for his decommitment from LSU back in October. One of the biggest reasons is his length and playmaking ability, a trademark for Alabama defensive backs over the years. Banks fits the mold and fills a position of need for the school, filling its last open defensive back slot in the class. From a perception standpoint, Alabama is once again on the national stage landing commitments and in the process beat out several SEC foes to land Banks, including Texas A&M and Florida. The Tide's efforts in Texas continue to yield fruit, with Banks the latest from the Lone Star State to spurn the in-state schools to head to Tuscaloosa.

WHY IT HURTS FOR TEXAS A&M, FLORIDA STATE AND FLORIDA
Banks spent most of November and December looking like he would stay close to home and play for Texas A&M and has been very complimentary of Jimbo Fisher and his staff in College Station. Unfortunately for Aggies fans, the praise for Banks is all the school will end up with after missing out on his commitment. The program is still in need of defensive talent and Banks would have had a chance to step in and make an impact right away. As for the Florida schools, Banks had strong ties to Florida State but the Seminoles were late to the party and ultimately that's probably what cost them in this recruitment. Florida made a valiant effort, and Banks was a fan of the school's DBU moniker, but the Gators didn't really factor into his recruitment down the stretch.
