Seems like I remember Saban saying in his speech they were waiting on “a couple” of LOi’s when we all knew Sanders hadn’t submitted his yet. Slip of the tongue maybe???? Sure wouldn’t hurt my feelings if Bogle was already onboard

Very doubtful. There's almost no possible way that would be kept under wraps.
It think it would have had to be announced within the ESD period.

Iirc, a few kids kept their signings secret last year until they announced at all-star games.

I don't think there's an NCAA rule requiring that. Once kids sign, other schools can't recruit them, but it's a dead period until Jan 11 anyway. So it's not that hard for a secretly signed kid to stop calls from a few other finalist schools that were recruiting him for a couple of weeks until he announces.

So there would be some sort of portal for coaches to know? I don’t think it would work as inefficiently as the financial aid process.

I've not heard of any portal for that. It seems to me if Bogle signed early with Bama, he could simply call and inform his primary recruiter at Miami, UF and UT that he's signed with another school, thank them for recruiting him and ask them (and the staff there) to keep it top secret, because he committed to Under Armour and ESPN that he'd announce his decision at the game on TV. Schools aren't allowed to talk to the public or media about recruits anyway until the recruit has signed with their school. I just don't think it seems all that difficult to keep it secret for a couple of weeks during a dead period.

Especially because if you are the staff to leak that a player signed for a different team, that gets around to other recruits and will cost you. That shite doesn't stay secret, recruits talk to other recruits about that kind of thing.

Christian Barmore Was 2018 Scout Team Star (BamaOnLine)
Johnny Dwight (L) and Christian Barmore (R) at Orange Bowl Media Days

Johnny Dwight (L) and Christian Barmore (R) at Orange Bowl Media Days
quote:
Alabama’s highly-acclaimed defensive line is made up of a sophomore, a junior, and a senior who have something in common. That something is that at this time next year, all three – third-year sophomore Quinnen Williams, junior Raekwon Davis, and senior Isaiah Buggs – will all be playing in the National Football League.
For now, that’s not an issue. Those three will be available to the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide on Saturday when Bama meets No. 4 Oklahoma in the semifinal round of the College Football Playoff in the Orange Bowl. The Tide, 13-0, and the Sooners, 12-1, kick off at 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m. central time) with television coverage by ESPN.
It’s the nature of Alabama football under Coach Nick Saban that players such as Williams and Davis, who came to Bama as freshmen, and Buggs, a junior college transfer, get developed into professional prospects. And then it’s the history of Tide football under Saban that the next round of stars steps up.
No one is making predictions, but Christian Barmore made a bit of a name for himself without playing in a game. The redshirt freshman did it on the practice field, selected by Bama coaches as a scout team player of the week nine times. “And he deserved it,” said Tide Assistant Coach Brent Key, whose offensive line worked against Barmore each week.
Barmore, 6-5, 300, came to Alabama late last summer from Neumann Goretti High School in Philadelphia. He was ranked as one of the nation’s best defensive linemen after helping his prep team to an 11-1 record.

But there are several top propsects in the Alabama defensive line stable, and Barmore’s 2018 football has been limited to the practice field challenge. He has made that an opportunity.
“He is big, he is strong, he is powerful and he gives us a handful every day of every week, even up to yesterday’s practice,” said Key. “He goes and goes and goes and doesn’t let up, and he’s so strong and powerful. And working to get better himself, too, within his scout team work.”
Defensive Line Coach Craig Kuligowski said, “He has tremendous work ethic. He’s been doing a great job on the scout team trying to give them his best to give the offense a good look every day. He’s been trying to tear it up.”
It is not unusual for a freshman to sit out his first year, even at Alabama where a number of freshmen do work into the rotation. Those who don’t can get frustrated and mad.
Barmore admitted to a little bit of both, and his zeal may have been “a handful,” as Coach Key said. But Barmore said, “I was working to make them better, but I was really working to get myself better, too, and I think I did that.
“To be honest, I was a little mad about it and got after them (Bama offensive linemen) pretty good, but I got over it. It was a training year. I learned different things, a lot more about the game of football. Next year is going to be real good. Right now I’m just getting ready.”

Being selected for Scout Team Playef of the Week honors in nine of Alabama’s 12 regular season games wasn’t an accident. Barmore said, “I was trying to get it every week. I worked pretty hard, but I think it got them (offensive linemen) better and I know they got me better. I just kept working and kept fighting.”
He also got good advice from his position coach and his teammates. “A lot of people, coaches and teammates, talked to me every day about patience and working hard,” he said. “Coach Kool (Kuligowski) talked to me every day about patience. He would say, ‘You never know,’ and to keep working to get better.
"I understand that. Alabama is a working program. I know I have to keep fighting, keep training, keep playing, and enjoy the process. Quinnen Williams is one of the top players in America, but he had to wait. He talks to me every day about having to wait for my time to come like he did.”
Barmore believes he has learned patience. “I learned you can’t be mad, can’t be frustrated,” he said. “It’s about working on yourself, about playing right, about studying the plays better, getting better technique. There are a lot of things to work on, to get better.
“I’m a team player. I like being there with my team, being there for my teammates even if I’m not playing, even if I’m only going to be watching the games. I’m learning from my teammates.”
As a scout team performer, Barmore has spent time at both ends and at nose tackle, but said he prefers defensive end. That’s where Kuligowski sees him, too. “He’ll probably be a defensive end,” the coach said. “Even though he’s over 300 pounds, he still moves very well for that size.
"Like everybody he’s got to make some improvement in strength and speed and those sorts of things. He’s got a real bright future. He is committed to being a good student and a good football player and we’re happy to have him.”

Love hearing that about Barmore. Besides Anoma I thought Barmore had the highest ceiling in last years class.
