Mack is still a top 2 round talent in the eyes of many evaluators. The gap between what this board thinks of him and what the next level sees in terms of ability is pretty astounding.

You are delusional if you think anyone in the NFL would take Mac in the first two rounds. Just wait until the draft process heats up and they start looking at his film. Shhow me the analyst you are talking about please.

You can disagree, but that is a wide variety of recent mock drafts from sites that do draft coverage for a living mocking Mack within the first two round. Not only that, but if you go look at draft boards for top 64 players Mack is inside the top 64 on almost every one of them. Is he there yet as a player? No, but the talent and mental stuff is there and clearly this season didn't impact people's evaluations of him so far, even after seeing him struggle early in the season and in the case of a couple of those mock drafts in the SECCG.

Agree on the talent is there. I don’t think he has the mental part of the position down yet. When Mack had a fantastic D coordinator in Pruitt and a veteran LB in Rashaan Evans to set him up to make the plays, he was outstanding. He was much, much better last year than he has been this year and stats might say otherwise (admittedly I have not looked) but from watching him in games, he seemed much more comfortable last year when he could simply just make plays rather than having to line people up and then play ball.
Another year in college would benefit him greatly and make him a ton of money. Whoever compared him to R.Foster making the jump from his junior to senior year was spot on.

Absolutely, his injury last year also set him back on getting vital snaps unfortunately.

Mack has tremendous coverage ability for a LB. despite issues he’s had he would definitely go pretty high because players that could cover and play in space are highly coveted in the nfl now

IMO, athletically Dax might be the best DB we've signed just from a pure combine numbers standpoint. Tony Brown would be up there in terms of testing numbers, but he... umm... was Tony Brown. IMO, Dax is a faster, slightly smaller (weight-wise) Landon Collins with better change of direction. A freak of freaks.
That being said, a Minkah Fitzpatrick and Patrick Surtain are rare types that can come in and learn the nuances of the defense from day one. Fortunately, we're absolutely loaded at DB next year, and can probably break him in slowly.

as evidenced by his positioning on the Hail Mary's with the SEC CG. He was the center fielder acting as another safety. All the confidence in the world in his ability, just hard to be responsible for the front 7's positioning and throwing caution to the wind and playing fact

Anyone who thinks Mack or Moses will be supplanted next year barring injury is dreaming. They haven’t been great this year but there has been improvement. Now they have a Lot of experience too. I’m looking at ILB as a strength next year.

I remember at the beginning of the year they said Mack would play the year with a broke foot. Did that ever become a fact? Is he still dealing with injuries?

Mack has all the athletic ability you could ask for but he needs to get right between the ears if he wants to go top 2 rounds. If he continues to look lost he’ll fall. Can it be taught? Sure. But top 2 isn’t for just raw talent and “projects.” He needs to show he can grasp the defense and stop being caught out of position if he wants to be truly coveted.

I have one final thing to say about Clay Webb and then I'm moving on. Actually, it's more of a question. I never played O-Line because I wasn't big enough.
We all know about the talk regarding what position suits him better, Center or Guard, and how it affected his recruitment.
I just read a quote from Clay himself where he states he is going to play Guard, first, until he is comfortable playing Center.
How do you get comfortable playing Center by playing a completely different position?

Mac needs another year. He had a really bad year by Alabama standards and as Saban has said, a lot of the draft projections in the media aren’t even close to reality when he makes phone calls to NFL GMs. Mac would be a 2nd or 3rd round guy this year. A good year in 19 could put him in the 1st round and make him millions. We will see what he does.
