You're seemingly the only one comparing the 2 here.

Someone mentioned getting a smaller, faster back to go with the bigger ones. Ford is that type back, never said anything about being comparable to Sanders.

Alabama commit Quay Walker opens up on recruitment, visits and more

quote:

Orlando, FL — Quay Walker avoided the media for the first two days at the Under Armour All-America Game, but he finally spoke to reporters on the third day.

Walker, a 4-star linebacker from Crisp County High School (Cordele, Ga.), didn’t sign with Alabama during the early signing period as he’s still figuring out what he wants to do with his recruitment as schools like Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee still try to get him to flip.

Would he still consider himself an Alabama commit?

“Yeah, pretty much. But right now, I’m unsure,” Walker told SEC Country. “I was looking forward to being coached by Coach [Jeremy] Pruitt. That plays a big role in it. And then sometimes I hear rumors about [defensive backs] Coach Derrick Ansley leaving.  That’s my main recruiter, so it’s all about coaches that I can trust and that I know I can go to just in case I can’t talk to my mom or something. I can go and talk to them. So pretty much Coach Pruitt leaving, I heard rumors about Coach Ansley leaving and my heart pretty much changed a little bit. I’m not going to lie to you about it. That’s what happened, though.”

I’m not sure where he heard the rumors of Ansley leaving, but I haven’t heard the coach mentioned for any other jobs. It could be the schools vying to flip Walker by telling him those things, as negative recruiting is quite common.

But it’s clear Walker isn’t 100 percent solid with the Tide. He’ll visit Florida on Jan. 12, then Georgia on the Jan. 19. The following weekend he’ll trek to Auburn. The weekend before signing day, he’ll use his last official visit to either Alabama or Tennessee. He’s not sure on that trip.

Walker said the Tide staff asked if he was going to sign early.

“They were asking me if I was going to sign early and I was like, ‘Nah,’ ” Walker said. “They didn’t have any problem with it. They were cool with it.”

Georgia was trying to get Walker to sign during the early signing period. SEC Country was informed the day before the three-day window opened that UGA was trying to push Walker’s application through so it could have the paperwork ready for him to sign. It ended up not happening.

“I ended up calling them and everything,” Walker said. “They tried to send the papers through, but I didn’t do that NCAA [clearinghouse] thing, so that didn’t work. But I wasn’t going to sign anyway, to be honest with you.”

What would make him change his mind on Alabama at this point?

“I’d say depth with the linebackers,” he said. “I know Alabama has of lot guys coming back, so that’s pretty much going to play a big role in that.”

It’s going to be a wild few weeks for Walker’s recruitment. Alabama is going to have to fight to keep him committed.

Alabama recruiting: News & notes from Day 3 of Under Armour All-America week

quote:

Orlando, FL — Several of Alabama’s commits, signees and top targets are in Orlando practicing for the Under Armour All-America Game, which kicks off on Thursday.

Here is what we learned on Day 3 from the majority of players Alabama is interested in at the game:

Quay Walker broke his silence with the media. He had been avoiding reporters since arriving in Orlando, but he decided to talk on Monday. Walker clearly isn’t 100 percent committed to Alabama. He may not even take an official visit to Alabama. He’s still deciding on that. Walker said the reason why he’s not so solid is because he has heard his primary recruiter Derrick Ansley may leave for another job. It’s not something I’ve heard. It didn’t help that Jeremy Pruitt left for Tennessee. Walker wanted to be coached by him. But I talked with Walker away from other reporters for a solid few minutes and he told me that he still really loves Alabama. The other schools he’s still considering (Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee) have him thinking, though. Those four schools are doing a good job of getting in Walker’s head about depth and potential coaching changes. That’s what’s causing concern on his end. He told me that he doesn’t think he’s going to de-commit from Alabama, but, again, those other schools are putting doubt in his head. Alabama will have to fight to keep him committed.

Eyabi Anoma, the 5-star Jack linebacker signee, is incredible. He’s the best defensive player I’ve seen this week. He’s just so damn athletic. Again, he’s only played football for two years. He’s going to be a problem for other teams.

Tommy Brown, a 4-star tackle signee, moved to guard on Monday. He lost several reps at tackle on Sunday where the defensive ends he faced just ran around him. Brown looked much better at guard. He won the majority of his reps. We’ll see what the Tide’s plans are for him, but that was an interesting observation.

5-star cornerback has 3 schools standing out as he plans visit to Alabama

quote:

Isaac Taylor-Stuart working on setting Alabama official visit

Alabama needs more cornerbacks in its 2018 class. The Tide have their eyes on several, with 5-star California prospect Isaac Taylor-Stuart being one of them.

Taylor-Stuart, the nation’s No. 2 cornerback out of Helix High School (San Diego), told SEC Country’s Benjamin Wolk at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio he will for sure take an official visit to Alabama before making his decision Feb. 7 on National Signing Day.

It’s going to be tough, though, because his weekends are already full. Once the dead period ends, he’ll visit Southern California on Jan. 12. The following weekend he’ll head to Hawaii to play in the Polynesian Bowl. The following weekend he heads to Georgia before visiting Tennessee the weekend before signing day.

That means Taylor-Stuart will have to take a mid-week official visit to Alabama. It may not be a bad thing for the Crimson Tide’s chances because he would likely be the only recruit on campus, which means he would receive loads of attention from the coaching staff.

The Army All-American said three schools are standing out for him right now.

“I would say Georgia, Alabama and Texas A&M are right there,” Taylor-Stuart said. “I’m just trying to take some official visits and go from there.”

Alabama currently has three defensive back signees in Josh Jobe, Jalyn Armour-Davis and Saivion Smith. Both Armour-Davis and Jobe are in San Antonio for the Army Bowl, so perhaps they help Alabama recruit Taylor-Stuart while they’re there.

The Tide have turned up the heat on Taylor-Stuart lately, especially after losing Nadab Joseph, who flipped from Alabama to Georgia during the Dec. 20-22 early signing period. Outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi is Taylor-Stuart’s primary recruiter.

“I’m hearing a lot from Coach Lupoi,” Taylor-Stuart said. “We talk pretty much every day. We have been talking a lot, and he’s been saying how he needs to get me down there. I’m working on that.

“He’s just been telling me, ‘Isaac, we need you. We have too many DBs leaving for the draft. We need you to come here and be an impact player'."

Kelvin Joseph may commit this week

If you want Kelvin Joseph, a 4-star safety from Scotlandville Magnet (Baton Rouge, La.), in Alabama’s 2018 class, you should hope that he decides to hold off from committing this weekend.

Joseph, who is also at the Army Bowl, told SEC Country’s Sam Spiegelman that he could decide to make his commitment at the game.

“I’m thinking about it,” Joseph said. “I feel like I’ll make the right decision. I’m trying to focus on football and keep the recruiting to a minimum.”

Joseph was committed to LSU for two years before de-committing from the Tigers in October.

The Army All-American now says LSU, Alabama and Auburn are all tied at the top for his commitment. If he makes his decision this weekend, it’ll be to one of those schools.

“It’s just about that time to get it over with and let everybody know instead of holding back,” he said.

If he decides to commit this weekend, it’ll likely be to LSU. He hasn’t visited anywhere other than LSU this fall. He plans to officially visit LSU on Jan. 19, Alabama on Jan. 26, Auburn on Feb. 2.

Joseph is one of the Tide’s top safety targets, but I don’t think he’ll end up in Alabama’s class if he goes through with his decision to commit.

Top West squad performers, Alpha Dog from Monday's Army practice

quote:

SAN ANTONIO — A five-star receiver and his quarterback teammate shined during the opening practice for the West on Monday at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Alpha Dog

Amon-Ra St. Brown is the No. 2 receiver in the 247Sports Composite rankings but he’s been making his case loud and clear all season that he could be the No. 1 receiver. Monday’s practice was another big-time showing for the five-star, who showed his flawless route running, soft hands and ability to stretch the field. St. Brown will announce on Saturday between Notre Dame, Stanford and USC.

Next 5: Defense

Leon O'Neal was passionate and attentive in every drill and was also one of the more impressive physical specimens on the field. He has a long frame and can cover ground quickly. He is a 247Sports Composite four-star who is considering schools like Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M.

Tommy Togiai had the top performance of the defensive lineman. He darts through on the snap, doing a great job of playing low and getting under the blocks, shedding his defender and getting into the backfield. The Ohio State pledge is a 247Sports Composite four-star.

There are not too many linebackers nationally that move like Michigan signee Cameron McGrone nationally. He broke up some passes in coverage then came down and made plays against the run. He’s a physical defender and a complete linebacker. McGrone is the No. 11 OLB in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings while he’s No. 3 by 247Sports.

Ronnie Perkins impressed in drills and 1-on-1’s during Monday’s West squad practice. He has good bulk and plays with obvious strength, but also possesses the length and quickness off the edge to provide problems as a pass-rusher. The West coaching staff also expressed its affinity for Perkins’ performance Monday. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranks Perkins as the No. 97 overall prospect nationally regardless of position.

Cornerback Isaac Taylor-Stuart is the No. 2 corner in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings and is another player making a push to move to the top of the rankings. Taylor-Stuart made a ton of plays, breaking on the football quickly and showing terrific ball skills. His speed is beyond elite.

Next 5: Offense

JT Daniels was supposed to play in the 2019 Army Bowl, but he reclassified to the 2018 class just a couple weeks ago. He didn’t look out of place at all, flashing the best of the three West quarterbacks and probably being no worse than No. 2 overall on the day. He looked poised and confident and was making all the throws, connecting with his Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown plenty while spreading the ball around to all the other receivers. Daniels is pushing to be a top-five overall player in the 2018 class.

Luke Ford is the lone tight end for the West and he’s being used like a traditional tight end, as a blocker and a receiver. He showed how physical he is as a run blocker while also showing the ability to stretch the field as a receiver and flashed great ball skills.

Brey Walker proved the most consistent and, at times, dominant offensive lineman for the West during Monday’s practice. He possesses massive size with sometimes overwhelming length. Walker bent well to establish a strong, wide, yet nimble enough base. He was the only lineman to beat four-star OU signee and future college teammate Ronnie Perkins in 1-on-1’s. Walker is No. 29 overall regardless of position in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Junior Angilau had a really good day, showing his agility and strength throughout the 1on1’s. He does a great job of keeping his feet chopping, using his hands and playing with excellent pad level. Angilau, who is headed to Texas, showed good flexibility all session.

Jaylen Waddle was in the conversation for Alpha Dog with Amon-Ra St. Brown and had a very good practice. Waddle, who is looking closely at Alabama and Texas A&M, showed elite quickness and is a superb route runner, then flashed his soft hands. He’s a very confident kid and was enjoying every aspect of practice. Waddle is arguably the top slot receiver in this class.

Quick Hitters

-The top back on the day for the West was Oklahoma signee T.J. Pledger. He can cut off of both feet, shows good vision and ability to bounce it outside and darts through holes. He consistently gets down hill in a hurry.

- Chris Murray gets overshadowed at times by his Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei teammates J.T. Daniels and Amon-Ra St. Brown, but he more than made his presence known, getting violent and being physical throughout practice, mixing it up with the defensive lineman routinely.
