Bama-bound: Eddie Smith explains decision to sign with Tide
quote:
The Alabama Crimson Tide landed a National Signing Day commitment from Eddie Smith, a big-framed, athletic cornerback from Salmen High School in Slidell, La.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Smith picked Alabama over fellow finalists Mississippi State and Tennessee.
"I just think it's a great fit," Smith told 247Sports of his decision to commit to Alabama, "and I believe coach (Nick) Saban can develop me the best over any coach in the nation.
"He's been telling me how much potential he sees in me and let me know how much he wants me."
The industry-generated 247Sports Composite rates Smith as a three-star prospect who is ranked as the nation's No. 42 cornerback in the 2018 recruiting cycle, as well as the No. 15 overall prospect in the state of Louisiana's senior class.
The 247Sports rankings have Smith as a four-star recruit and No. 11 overall in Louisiana, and he ranks No. 27 nationally at the cornerback position.
Smith credited new Alabama assistants Karl Scott and Pete Golding as key figures in his recruitment with the Crimson Tide.
"I have a great relationship with both because they both recruited me at their old schools," Smith said, "so it made my decision easier."
Scott spent the last two seasons coaching the secondary at Texas Tech, while Golding served as UTSA's defensive coordinator for two years. Both schools were on Smith's lengthy offer list.
Smith was committed for six months to TCU, but decommitted immediately following his mid-December official visit. That came a week after hist first official visit, which was Mizzou, one of his final four schools.
Alabama offered Smith on Jan. 11 and that replaced a previously planned trip to Arkansas on the final weekend of the month. Smith took his final three official visits to Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Alabama on the final three weekends of January.
That final visit to Alabama made an impression on Smith, he said.
"Everything (stood out)," Smith said. "The campus is beautiful and I also like how close together everything is."
The whirlwind finish to the recruiting process was not lost on Smith.
"It's been crazy. Really stressful at times," Smith said. "But it was great to get an offer to the national champions."

No just another one of the posters that remembers how bad and whiny of a poster you are. Wish you would have kept your word and left when you cried the last time.

Sean, you bring it on yourself with your star-gazer and over-reactionary posts at every twist and turn. Maybe take a chill pill and post less today.

We have a recruiting class before 2020, do we not?
I will repeat melting over nothing. It'll be arguable we will be better at DL this this upcoming season than this past one.
We have a new recruiting staff and will get the bodies in. I am confident of this.

Tim Watts on Eddie Smith:
quote:
UA took his commitment a few weeks ago silently. He assured his spot in this class and that's one of the reasons you saw them back off others.

I wish all media outlets would refuse to cover a recruits second, third, and fourth commitment.
Would be a good lesson for the kids.
