And sometimes people star gaze. Langham was an afterthought for most people until he had a fourth star.

There’s only one scenario that we would turn Langham away and Beal isn’t included in that scenario. Bottom line, if it doesn’t turn out to be an epic day for us tomorrow then we will know it’s all bullshite and the kid just didn’t choose Bama.

I agree. Saban had too many less than stellar recruiters on staff this year. It's okay to admit that. It's possible he got complacent and thought that the program could just recruit itself without any drop off for a year. With the new staff hires, I expect nothing less than an epic class at DL, LB and DB next year.

Whether we got beat out by Florida, or someone else "took his spot", I won't lose sleep over it. I'm just along for the ride

I thought Bama offered him before Tennessee , Auburn and Notre Dame . Could be wrong though

Are you of the opinion that Saban got complacent this year with the staff in terms of recruiting?

Yes, hence him making all of those upgrades on the staff recently.

You can’t say that with absolute certainty.

I mean, hell, Beal has had an offer longer. Alabama offered over a year ago. Langham wasn’t offered until December.

And people didn’t give two shits about Langham when his name was brought up. Not until he had that fourth star.

Notre Dame offered in November. Alabama and Tennessee in December. Auburn in January.

Saban hiring a "meh" recruiting staff last year was possibly his biggest mistake in his 11 years here. I get why he did, it was easy to assume he'd gotten Bama to the point where it would recruit itself....but if that was his thought, he miscalculated with young, elite recruiters coming into the SEC like Kirby, Pruitt and Fisher.

I think he fixed the problem with the staff he just hired, but good golly---this feels like Shula era stuff taking back-up options like Moody and Beal and getting beat out by Princeton for our Plan H quarterback. Hopefully Saban has a trick or two up his sleeve tomorrow.

but taking a 3-star TE as a DE sounds like a desperation move.

Actually a very similar skill set to DEs Saban has taken over the years.

Beal is such a intriguing prospect to me I've seen him in person a couple of times. I could see him staying at TE or bulking up and being a athletic offensive tackle, I also see him being a very good DE.

You really want to argue that Moody and Beal were at the top of our board a couple of months ago? Or Braxton Barker was? Common' man. Some of you guys are such homer nancys that you can't even call a spade a spade. Saban is not infallible. It's ok to point out mistakes and misses.

I don't buy the Beal stuff. Langham plays inside and Bealnis a converted TE to De where Bama is loaded. Langham just picked a different school no biggie. I told y'all at this point after 11 yrs I just enjoy the melts. I leave for an hour and come back to Chernobyl.

Those are all completely different arguments.

Mercy. This place has become a dumpster fire in the last 15 minutes.

LOL @ all the "absolute" statements being thrown out from people who have no clue about what's going on. "He never was coming here"... "we need to admit that we just got beat".... "worst recruiting class ever".... "gonna set us back 5 years".

LOL @ the thought of some of you handling difficult life situations. Actually, maybe I shouldn't laugh. That's honestly a bit scary. No wonder the suicide rate is through the roof these days. This stuff (recruiting) doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things (not talking about in relation to football), but it gives you a microcosm into the way people handle dynamics and situations.

As the late, great William Cooper used to say, many of you are the flotsam and jetsam of society, being tossed willy-nilly, to and fro by every little wave that comes by.

ETA- Oh yeah, I almost forgot the "Saban just got complacent with recruiting this year" stuff. Buwahahahahahahahahahaha!!! Umm... yeah, guys, that's what happened. Saban got complacent. (That's sarcasm for those of you too stupid to tell)

Actually they’re both 3-4 ends.

Langham is 6-6 270
Beal is 6-5 265

Both have been linked to other positions for much of their recruitment.
