I think we do Jonah a disservice if we move him to center. I’m sure he could play the position just like Barrett did but just like Barrett, he’s more suited to RT and should be allowed to develop there. We’ve got plenty of C-G guys that we can plug in. I do want the best 5 linemen on the field, but not if it means playing some of them at less than their best position. Put the best 5 at their best position on the field. In the long run, that’s actually better for both the team and the individual players.

I want to see the quote or video where Saban specifically said we can sign 23.

Every year these "insiders" do this where they overstate how many we can sign and every year they are wrong.

I saw where Saban said we can sign 8.

We don't need to sign more. We don't need to reduce the number we sign in the next class either.

Barrett was a great center for us. He was never going to be a dominant player in the NFL, he just didn't have the raw power for it.

Bottom line is we need to get the best 5 on the field. That means Jonah is going to have to move to center or RT. This OL has a chance to be special. Like 2012 special if we can get the right combination and allow them time to gel.

Browsing some of the twitter photos of prospect in-home visits with Saban, the Vols twitter mob seems to be out in full force. They sure seem to know exactly when Saban is going to hang it up.

It's almost impressive how fast they flock to a prospects Twitter feed. Seems like if they are a possible destination then if a recruit tweets anything there are like 50 pro Tennessee responses

The signing day action is pretty much over and Alabama just wrapped up on the practice field. Nick Saban will address both aspects of a busy Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT.

FYI Bama just joined AU & a bunch of other colleges in offering recent Jackson-Olin transfer 2019 LB LaVonta Bentley. Dude went from 0 offers to like 8 in 48 hours after transferring schools

I assume the 15th there is J Parks since we know who the other 14 are at least according to 247.

I was reading about this kid yesterday. He was talking up offers from North Dakota State and the like.

He has been mentored by former Alabama DB Chris Rogers.

Correct. Jarez Parks is one of the 15 counted signees. He was a greyshirt. So, 25 minus the 2 blueshirts (Brannon and Bullovas) gives us the 23-15=8 numbers. I think some were counting this way: 25-3=22 and 22-14=8. Either way = 8 more that we can sign.

Maybe speculation about a possible 9th spot has to do with whether Mehki Brown's transfer allows an EE to be backcounted.

Surtain was always going to be a very hard pull due to Corey Raymond.

Don't be so sure. I expect 7SU to make a last ditch run with Raymond (and very well may be successful), but it's not looking good for them at THIS MOMENT.

Bama certainly makes the most sense if not for some assistant coaching relationship. We'll see.

How many times has Bama gotten a top DB that Raymond and LSU wanted the last few years?

How many of them have we gone head to head for that weren't from the state of Louisiana (and even then, not many)? Somehow, we haven't gone head to head for too many in the past 2-3 years directly.

Bozeman predicts that Pierschbacher steps in at center.

LINK

I could see:

LT: Leatherwood
LG: Wills
C: Pierschbacher
RG: Cotton
RT: Williams

However, I have a hard time not seeing Womack in the starting lineup. He played well this year and was just a RS So. I don't know where to put him though. I don't really want to leave him at RT if Tau will be starting (RT will be his blindside). I'm a little afraid his height may not be optimal for an interior position though (especially with a 6' QB). Who knows, but I really don't want to leave either Leatherwood or Wills on the bench next year either.

Shite, can any of them catch? Let's just make that one a blocking TE (ala Greene but with more playing time) and move James back to the DL.

Bama problems.

Alabama checks in on 5-star California CB, son of legendary rapper

quote:

Tosh Lupoi visits star California DB

There are several defensive back targets left on the board for Alabama as we head into the final 2 weeks before National Signing Day. We touched on two 5-star cornerbacks on Monday and where the team believes it stands with them.

But there’s another 5-star cornerback who Tide fans should keep an eye on. That’s the nation’s No. 3 CB prospect in Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School’s Olaijah Griffin, who is the son of legendary West Coast rapper Warren G.

Griffin de-committed from UCLA last month while in Orlando for the Under Armour All-America Game. He named Tennessee as his top school after taking an official visit there in mid-December. Griffin is expected to be in Tuscaloosa this weekend before taking a trip to Auburn the weekend before National Signing Day.

It’s not clear where Griffin stands on the board as far as defensive back targets go because Alabama is firmly in the race for 5-star corners Patrick Surtain Jr.,
Tyson Campbell and Isaac Taylor-Stuart. In addition to those guys, the team is recruiting 4-star safety Julius Irvin and 3-star cornerback Eddie Smith.

Nick Saban visits Eddie Smith

As mentioned above, Smith, a 3-star cornerback out of Louisiana, has turned into a priority for the coaching staff. Nick Saban used his one-and-only in-home visit with Smith on Tuesday night.

Smith told SEC Country that his final 3 schools are Alabama, Mississippi State and Tennessee. He’ll visit Tuscaloosa this weekend before sitting down with his family on Monday prior to silently committing to his school of choice. He will not announce his final decision until National Signing Day.

This will be Smith’s final official visit and his first-ever trip to Tuscaloosa. He’s intrigued with the lack of depth Alabama has in the secondary. Smith believes he has a legitimate chance to come in right away and play. Saban told Smith that he is looking at the Louisiana prospect strictly as a cornerback.

Jeff Banks visits Brock Purdy

Special teams coordinator Jeff Banks was back in Arizona a week after offering 3-star quarterback Brock Purdy. Purdy has turned into Alabama’s top target at the position. He’ll make his first-ever visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend.

He spoke with SEC Country last week and told us what he’s looking forward to seeing on his trip to Tuscaloosa.

“I just want to make sure it’s a great college town, and I know it will be,” he said. “I obviously want to meet the coaching staff and the players and build a good relationship with them. That’s going to be huge for my family and I. And then, obviously, meeting with Coach Saban. That will be a big deal. As a quarterback, you need to have a good relationship with the head coach, so that will be big.”

It was always going to be difficult for the Tide to land an elite quarterback in the 2018 class. Heading into the season, Jalen Hurts was the reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year and the team signed the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat prospect in Tua Tagovailoa and 4-star prospect Mac Jones. The depth in Tuscaloosa would suggest that any 2018 quarterback won’t play for a few years.

And now that Tagovailoa showed what he can do in the National Championship Game, it’s something that Purdy is looking at when he considers Alabama.

“It’s definitely important to think about when I’ll play if I go there,” Purdy said. “I’m a competitor and I would go there and do my job and do whatever it is they ask me to do. We’ll see what happens there. His play as a true freshman was amazing. All props to him. But I just need to take my visit and get a feel for the place first.”

It’s possible and likely that by the end of next weekend, though, Alabama will have its 2018 quarterback in place.

“I hope to not make my decision by Signing Day, but it might happen that way,” Purdy said. “If I go to the right school and feel like that place is home on one of my visits, then I’ll probably commit then.”
