Isn't DeLong supposedly a pretty good PK as well as punter?

No idea.

It'd be nice if that's true.

I am not saying my numbers are correct but 2015 we signed 24, 2016 we signed 23, 2017 we signed 26 not counting the 2 blue shirts and Parks. One of those 26 was Hulk and with the new rule still counts. The NCAA rule is 25 initial counters so unless Fletcher the LS was not on scholarship we had to at least back count one. The SEC rule allows us to sign 28 total with 3 that can back count. Again I have no idea if my numbers are right just speculating.

Saban used the 10th assistant spot wisely, imo. Banks has actual punter and kicker coaching chops. It looks like Saban is serious about fixing our FG kicking issues.

An SEC Country article about him said he kicks off too but did not mention FGs or PATs.

I didn't want this to get overlooked being the last post on the previous page:

Alabama recruiting question of the day: What does Crystal Ball read on 5-star CB Patrick Surtain Jr.?

quote:

In case you missed our report from Monday morning, I broke down the latest on Alabama’s official visitors from this weekend. It was an excellent recruiting job by the staff that should pay off come National Signing Day on Feb. 7.

There were arguably no more important players on campus than 5-star cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Patrick Surtain Jr. Both players have been near or at the top of Alabama’s wish list for over a year now.

It’s crazy to think that Campbell and Surtain both attend American Heritage in Plantation, Fla. Imagine being a high school quarterback having to throw on those cornerbacks.

But @micahelmore41 asks what’s the reasoning behind Campbell not wanting to play with Surtain in college? That’s something a source told me in the story linked above. It’s not that they aren’t good friends. They are. But sometimes it’s best to move away from someone you’re familiar with to see how good you can be on your own. It’s like Kyrie Irving and LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Irving knew he was good enough to hold his own outside of James’ shadow. Cleveland traded Irving to Boston and it’s worked out for him. I’m just speculating here, but Surtain has been “the guy” for so long now, and even though Campbell is a 5-star in his own right, maybe he feels like he hasn’t been viewed as “the guy” the way his teammate has.

As far as your second question, if I had to do a Crystal Ball prediction on where I think Surtain is going to wind up, I think it’s going to be Alabama. Entering the visit, I was 50-50 on the Tide’s chances of landing the nation’s No. 1 cornerback. I think Alabama has seized control in Surtain’s recruitment. Surtain told SEC Country earlier this month that he feels like there’s a great opportunity to play right away in Tuscaloosa. Combine that with the fact that there’s a good chance you’ll win a championship if you go to Alabama, and the team’s chances look good to sign Surtain. I know some people were concerned when defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley left for the Oakland Raiders, but, remember, Nick Saban himself plays a big role in coaching the secondary. The Surtains are big Saban fans.

As far as your last question, Alabama has three defensive back signees in Jalyn Armour-Davis, Josh Jobe and Saivion Smith. The team wants to add at least two more. After this last weekend, I think Surtain and 5-star cornerback Isaac Taylor-Stuart would be my picks. It’s also possible the team adds a sixth defensive back. If that happens, 3-star cornerback Eddie Smith, who visits this weekend, would get that spot, in my opinion.

Well, there is room there now that Mullen is at UF. While at MSU, he did serious damage getting kids that Bama and Auburn either didn't want or slow played.

Supposedly a kid from Hoover is the #1 kicker for 2019. Would be nice to pick him up.

As a Louisianian I know once a Louisianian leaves and succeeds elsewhere they rarely return to live in Louisiana. And, for their child to return to Louisiana? That would be a rarity. This is why I never thought Surtain, Jr would sign with LSU.

I wanted Jobe 100% out of spite and now I'm turning my spiteful pettiness towards Surtain. I know we need him, but I 100% want him out of spite

I've got no info to go on but it seems like there's one of these recruits every year that we trend for at the end of the cycle only for them to go elsewhere. Travis Rudolph, Mecole Hardiman, etc. Surtain feels like that recruit so I refuse to get my hopes up on him. Would be a major pull tho

ETA: I'm just glad we are going to have an exiting finish and should have a few surprises. That's about the only good thing to having shite insiders now.

ETA: Given chef's prediction yesterday we would end up with six 5-stars on Rivals. Is that good enough for you sean?

Last years class, across the 4 major recruiting sites (Rivals/Scout/ESPN/247), we had twelve players that were a 5-Star in the 2017 class, an all-time Record. Just six 5-Stars this recruiting cycle? Yawn...Saban needs to get his arse in gear!

I’m joking of course...roll Tide it’s going to be a great finish!!

I get called out like I'm the only one lol. Who dosent like 5 stars?? If stars don't matter why don't we just recruit one and two stars and develop them.

Surtain and ITS would be killer pick ups. One of them could start next year.

I agree. That DB haul would be very impressive. Seems like Josh Jobe could be the real deal and underrated

With the exception of AJ and Tua Nick and Staff haven't really done that great of a job on QB evaluations and it is documented. They better take the Purdy kid if he will come to TitleTown. If one of these 3 were to get injured then we're in trouble. We don't need for any of the 3 to transfer. We could afford to miss on a LBer this cycle.

Yeah. We'd all love to sign Quay Walker (flip risk), but LB & WR seem like lower priority needs vs the other positions on TideSaint's list:
quote:

From what I can gather our final eight appears to be a combination of the following players:

QB Brock Purdy
WR Justyn Ross
WR Jaylen Waddle
OT Nicholas Petit-Frere
DT Bobby Brown
(committed)
DE Malik Langham
CB Patrick Surtain
or Tyson Campbell
CB Isaac Taylor-Stuart, Eddie Smith, Julius Irvin (Safety) or Olaijah Griffin*

The 2 CB spots could actually be any combination of the players I listed, but the staff wants 2 so I broke them up that way.

* I added Olaijah Griffin

LSU fans on February 8: “I didn’t want to say anything, but I felt Surtain was a little over-rated anyway. Our 3-Star we signed will be a better player than Him. Hes Tiger food now!”
