Recruiting question of the day: Alabama has best chance to gain ground with which recruits this weekend?
quote:
I’ll have a full breakdown of all the expected visitors this weekend and where their recruitments stand on Friday, but here’s the list of recruits who are planning on taking official visits:
5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell
5-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr.
5-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere
4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross
4-star Tenn. linebacker commit JJ Peterson
4-star wide receiver signee Xavier Williams
4-star linebacker commit Quay Walker
4-star quarterback James Foster
3-star linebacker commit Vernon Jackson
3-star defensive end Malik Langham
Outside of Williams, who already has signed with Alabama, the Tide have a chance to gain ground on every single prospect listed here.
As far as in-state prospects go, I think Langham is going to choose Alabama when he makes his decision, so I don’t think the Tide have much impressing to do here. It’s possible he goes ahead and makes a commitment this weekend. Foster is still being evaluated. If he’s given the green light to commit, I think he would become the team’s quarterback signee.
Current Alabama commits Walker and Jackson are wavering on their pledge to the Tide. Walker visited Tennessee last weekend and will visit Auburn and Georgia before signing his commitment on Feb. 7. This weekend will give the team a great opportunity to lock him in. Jackson is still flirting with Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
Peterson committed to Tennessee without taking a visit to Knoxville. He eventually did take that trip last weekend. I have a hard time envisioning him in Alabama’s class because he’s extremely close with Jeremy Pruitt, Tennessee’s new coach, and it’s the main reason why he chose the Volunteers.
Ross is down to Alabama, Auburn and Clemson. He’s been to Tuscaloosa so many times. I doubt anything from his trip this weekend is going to change his mind on what he thinks of the Tide at this point. But, his primary recruiter, Derrick Ansley, is gone, so it’ll be a good opportunity for him to build relationships with other staff members.
A source close to the program told SEC Country that he believes Petit-Frere has Alabama out front with Ohio State in second place. The Tide have done a great job recruiting the 5-star tackle.
But there are no other recruits visiting this weekend that Alabama has a better chance to gain ground with than American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Patrick Surtain Jr.
The Tide will need to replace every player from the 2017 secondary. The depth in the secondary is very thin. Both Campbell and Surtain would have a good opportunity to play early if they chose the Tide. But, as it stands now, Alabama is not seen as the favorite for either player. Campbell is believed to be favoring Georgia, while Surtain favors LSU.
Fans should expect Nick Saban to spend lots of time with the cornerbacks this weekend and drill the message into their heads that they can play as a freshman. This will be the last chance Alabama has with both players on campus.

Oh Lawd. Rueben Foster's uncle on Justyn Ross:
quote:
Think he will land with us. They played Auburn High last Friday in basketball. Very athletic kid. I go watch him play every time he’s in the area. He likes Clemson a lot but his mom and grandma wants him at Bama. Clemson coaches were at the game and his grandma asked someone to sneak her out another way. She is getting tired of them FWIW. Say she can’t leave the house without them rushing her. He loves both of those ladies a lot. Especially since his grandma watched after him while his mom was deployed. I think he makes them happy. Also I’m close with a player on the team, which I gave him great reason to attend Bama and sign last year. He will get Ross there and heard he’s been a lock FWIW.

Rashaan Evans is a likely 1st rounder due to his athleticism and versatility

Arm strength looks like a question, but the guy is VERY accurate with the football. Best trait in a quarterback is throwing accuracy.

Jeff Banks already doing work. Here's a quote from Purdy regarding his offer:
quote:
"Coach Banks FaceTimed me and he said (Nick) Saban and all them evaluated me and stuff again, made sure I was the right guy they wanted to offer," Purdy said. "He said he didn't want to waste any time apparently, so he told Coach Banks to call me and tell me I have a full-ride offer there."
Purdy talked about his blossoming relationship and the visit with the new Tide assistant on Monday night.
"It was special," Purdy said. "Great dude. He's very electric how he talks. He's very straightforward. My family and I love him. He's a great guy. He's doing a great job recruiting out here in Arizona. We got a good feel for what Alabama is about, their philosophy, their offensive minds, Coach Saban, and how they get things done. It was a good talk."
