Alabama commit Kyriq McDonald may be rated a three-star prospect, but he played like a five-star in James Clemens' (Madison, Ala.) win over Clay-Chalkville last Friday night.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, had a 30-yard pick six and ran in a 50-yard touchdown on offense. The in-state DB also made a number of plays coming out of the secondary, as well as a near punt return touchdown.

McDonald is rated the No. 53 cornerback and the No. 529 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He committed to Alabama at the end of August after picking up an offer in June at camp.

HUDL's new format is fricking horrendous.

They must have hired the same network engineer as 247.

The questions were in jest, but may now have some merit.

Kyriq McDonald, the James Clemens star defensive back and special teams warrior, lined up for a quarterback snap on the first play of the first quarter in a 28-6 win over Clay-Chalkville on Friday.

He went left and was gone, 50 yards down the sideline for a touchdown.

What's your quarterback rating this season now? "Five star."

Do you think you'll get more snaps on offense?

"Yes, sir." (with James Clemens coach Wade Waldrop hearing the question and interjecting, 'Absolutely!")

McDonald, an Alabama commit rated as a three-star recruit, can do it all for the Jets but may have to do even more so his team's offense can match the defensive performance. He returned a kickoff 81 yards for a score and an interception 30 yards for a touchdown on Friday as well. He covers kickoffs and if he's not trying to block kicks, he's returning them.

He also had at least two tackles for loss on Friday.

He described his Alabama commitment as "strong" and plans to enroll in the spring.

"They're getting an overall player, a player that's going to compete non-stop and whistle to whistle," the 5-foot-11, 190-pound McDonald said. "A guy who loves football and doesn't take a play off."

McDonald said he wants to take an official visit to California just to see it because he's never been, but he doesn't plan on decommitting from Alabama.

He's also trying to get four-star defensive end LaBryan Ray, his teammate, to join him at Alabama. Ray visited Tennessee over the weekend.

"That's my brother right there," McDonald said. "I'm trying to be with him as long as we're together playing football, all the way to the NFL if that's what it takes."

LSU wasted no time Sunday, firing head coach Les Miles a day after the Tigers fell 18-13 in the final moments at Auburn.

The recruiting impact will be felt, but it could be minimal depending on who the school hires as head coach and which assistant coaches stay.

From the LSU perspective, check this report from NOLA.com to see how LSU commits and targets have responded. Here are some recruits who are targeted by Alabama and Auburn and are impacted by the news.

** DYLAN MOSES, linebacker, Bradenton, Fla., - The five-star now at the IMG Academy, but from Baton Rouge, will visit Alabama officially this weekend (along with 4-star Nashville linebacker Jacob Phillips and Alabama long snapper signee Thomas Fletcher). He's very close with Les Miles, having committed to LSU once before. Now his recruitment opens up a lot more but ultimately, this depends on who LSU hires. 247Sports' Barton Simmons, one of the best in the business, says this timing gives LSU the best chance to sign Moses.

** WILL IGNONT, linebacker, Buckhorn - The four-star recruit had narrowed his choices to Auburn, LSU and UCLA. This has to bode well for Auburn unless the Tigers keep defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, whom he has spoken highly of in the past.

** ISAIAH BUGGS, defensive tackle, Mississippi Gulf Coast - The nation's No. 2 junior college recruit has a final four of Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss, but the news here will change things probably for Auburn's benefit.

** JACOBY STEVENS, safety/athlete, Murfreesboro, Tenn., - The five-star recruit committed to LSU over Alabama and Auburn, two schools that really made a move with him throughout the summer. Each school is also looking for a top safety commit in this class.

** BRANDON MARTIN, receiver, Mississippi Gulf Coast - The one-time Auburn commit and 2015 LSU signee is still heavily interested in Auburn and it remains to be seen if LSU will be a real factor.

** CHRISTOPHER ALLEN, linebacker, Baton Rouge, La. - Back in April, Allen said that Alabama was his leader, and that continued until he said LSU drew even. Depending on mutual level of interest with the four-star linebacker, this should help Alabama.

** TODD HARRIS, safety, Plaquemine, La. - The four-star safety earned an offer from Alabama after the Crimson Tide coaches watched him perform at camp. LSU had two safeties (JaCoby Stevens, Grant Delpit) committed when Harris announced a top three of Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss.

** TOP TWO DEFENSIVE TACKLES Marvin Wilson of Houston and Tyler Shelvin of Lafayette, La. - However, it looks like Alabama's chances slipped when Bo Davis resigned. Shelvin is an LSU commitment who likes Alabama, but said at The Opening that he was solid with the Tigers. We'll see if these top prospects officially visit.

OTHER IN-STATE RECRUITS - Spanish Fort's Justin Thomas and Murphy's Neil Farrell are committed to LSU, but what could happen if Alabama and Auburn turned on the heat? The news can't help LSU with St. Paul's defensive end Ryan Johnson or Spanish Fort linebacker Thomas Johnston. Dameyune Craig is now the recruiting coordinator, but the important question is if he'll be retained by a new coach. Aranda is also fond of James Clemens linebacker Monty Rice, who was at the Auburn-LSU game on Saturday.

Monty Rice had one of the biggest plays Friday in James Clemens' 28-6 win over Clay-Chalkville.

With his team up 14-6 late in the third and the Cougars driving, Rice intercepted a Willie Miller pass and returned it 50 yards into Clay-Chalkville territory.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Rice, a middle linebacker for James Clemens, lumbered and shook off tacklers before being run down.

"I just dropped (into coverage) and there was the ball," Rice said.

"I'd like to have stuck that one in the end zone and help my team out, but it killed a drive. They were driving. I probably should have scored."

Rice, a three-star recruit, mentioned Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Florida State and Tennessee as schools he's looking at now, but added that he is taking his recruitment slow.

Rice will be in Auburn Saturday to watch the Tigers host LSU.

"I really want to see how they respond, especially after the Texas A&M loss," Rice said. "It's going to be a tough SEC West game."

Rice is feeling the love from Auburn coaches.

"(Running backs coach) Tim Horton writes me about every other day and so does (linebackers coach) Travis Williams," Rice said. "I think Gus Malzahn is a terrific head coach. They're off to a slow start, but they're playing terrific defense."

Georgia inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann watched Rice in action Friday night.

"I love Georgia," Rice said. "(Head coach) Kirby Smart is a terrific leader. I believe in coach Smart and what he's doing."

James Clemens defensive end LaBryan Ray made his fourth trip to an SEC school over the weekend when the four-star recruit saw Tennessee beat Florida in Knoxville.

If the No. 1 player on the AL.com A-List is leaning to any school, he's not giving up any hints.

Ray has made unofficial visits to Auburn (vs. Clemson), Alabama (vs. Western Kentucky), Ole Miss (vs. Alabama) and recently Tennessee.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive end played a big role in the Jets' 28-6 win at Clay-Chalkville Friday, one week after he had 17 tackles against Sparkman in a 40-15 win. Ray's highlights this season also include recovering his own blocked punt for a score.

"This guy right here played well too, and they were holding him all night," James Clemens coach Wade Waldrop said. "It's impressive. Between Monty (Rice) and LaBryan, they've gotten better since the beginning of the year. They've been working hard all year."

For now, Ray could take two official visits during the season. He's planning an official visit to Florida the weekend of Oct. 8 when the Gators host LSU. He said his official visit to Alabama could be for the Iron Bowl.

The other schools in Ray's top six are Mississippi State, Auburn, Tennessee and Ole Miss. Auburn is in Ray's top group after originally not being in his top 12. Here's what he said about the four schools he's visited so far.

Tennessee: "Tennessee, I'm very high on. They were one of the first schools to recruit me. I've got a good relationship with a bunch of the coaches on the coaching staff, like (defensive line) Coach (Steve) Stripling especially. I am pretty high on Tennessee."

Ray added this on Sunday about his visit: "It went really well. Talked to all the coaches including coach (Butch) Jones. Really enjoyed myself. It was a awesome atmosphere and definitely a great game."

Ole Miss: "(The visit went) very well. My grandma and my aunt got to go.They got to see what it was like on a game day with the wild fans. It was a great environment. They enjoyed it."

Alabama: "I still like Alabama, definitely. They've made some plays defensively. They turned the game around in the Ole Miss game."

Auburn: "They started to recruit me really hard. I remember when they offered me, a couple of weeks later I went to visit and it's gone up from there.

"Their (defense is) good. I went to the Auburn-Clemson game and the defense was legit, even more so than I expected."

Ray's recruitment is still expected to go late in the process, maybe even all the way to National Signing Day.

"All of the schools are making me feel like a priority," Ray said. "They said that they want you and they need you. There's a spot there if you want it. Now, it's finding the best spot for me and my family."

Clay-Chalkville four-star receiver Nico Collins had the perfect plans for a road trip following his team's 28-6 loss to James Clemens on Friday.

The 6-foot-5 Collins planned to meet up with Florence safety J'Marick Woods, a Michigan commit, and make the drive up to Michigan for its Saturday afternoon game against Penn State.

It didn't work out, per his father. Collins stayed home this weekend. However, Michigan still remains at the top along with Georgia and Alabama for Collins, who is ranked No. 2 in the AL.com A-List.

Collins has caught 26 passes for 537 yards and four touchdowns in six games for the Cougars, who start a sophomore at quarterback in Willie Miller. He caught six passes for 76 yards against James Clemens. Collins showed a nice ability to get yards after the catch. He did fumble a punt return late after the game had been decided.

Clay-Chalkville (4-2, 2-1 Class 6A, Region 6) is at Gardendale on Friday.

Collins said Michigan is still coming after him hard. He has made three trips there since the start of May.

"They text me every day, telling me they need me and I'm a top priority," Collins said. "All of the schools, still. They text me saying they need me."

Alabama has two receivers committed and it seems like several talented ones, including Collins, are in the mix to get what looks like two more receiver spots.

However, Collins maintains that there is no pressure from Alabama coaches to commit right away. He plans on making his decision closer to Signing Day.

"They tell me to enjoy it," Collins said. "Take my time with it. They tell me I'm a top priority."

With the emergence of the two freshman running backs and with Harris and Scarbrough both coming back next year, does Bama take just two running backs in this class? I heard that they might take 3 before the season.

The only way we take three is if Akers and Harris both want to come and assuming Robinson stays on board if that happens.

Yeah, I am pretty sure we will keep recruiting Akers and Harris untill they either sign or enroll somewhere. Robinson is an EE, so I doubt he would go anywhere else, unless we tried to grayshirt him or something like that.

I agree, Robinson had that great game last year where he rushed for like 400 yards, but hasn't done much this year.

The firing of Les Miles has changed the plans of LSU five-star linebacker target Dylan Moses.

After originally scheduling a Dec. 15 commitment date, the 247Sports Composite No. 4 overall player in the class of 2017 will make his decision on Jan. 1.

“I’m probably going to postpone my decision to Jan. 1 at the Under Armour Game because there’s supposed to be a (high school) National Championship game on December 16th and I don’t want my commitment the day before to be a distraction to my team, so I’m going to move it to the Under Armour Game,” Moses told 247Sports' Josh Newberg.

Moses, who at one time was committed to the Tigers, plans to be an early enrollee at whichever school he chooses.

quote:

“I’m taking my official to Bama this weekend,” Moses said. "It’s about the relationships I have with the coaches and how they develop … Ohio State, Texas, Houston, Miami, all the schools I’m visiting have been recruiting me.”
