HUNTER’S PLAN
The nation’s No. 4 safety, Devon Hunter (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River), said Virginia Tech still has the edge on Florida and North Carolina.
Hunter has publicly favored the Hokies for over a year. He said he’s also still highly considering Auburn and Alabama.
Hunter is also in talks with Michigan and Notre Dame, the two places he wants to take his first two official visits.
Hunter said he hopes to take his first official visit, to Michigan, when the Wolverines host Penn State September 24 or Wisconsin October 1.
He said his next trip would be to Notre Dame, but doesn’t have a date set for that official visit or to Alabama.
Hunter said he hopes his final two official visits will go to Florida and Auburn.
He said he doesn’t plan to officially visit Virginia Tech or UNC at this time since he’s been to each campus several times over the last three years.
Virginia Tech is working to get him in for an official visit December 12, per VTScoop247 insider Evan G. Watkins.
Hunter hopes to take all five of his official visits before making his college choice, a decision he could announce at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
He said his mom’s favorites are North Carolina and Auburn.
The Crystal Ball reads 88-percent for Virginia Tech and 12-percent for Clemson.

Most important visitor this weekend
LaBryan Ray, a 4-star defensive end, is one of Alabama’s most-wanted recruits in the Class of 2017, and he’ll be in Tuscaloosa this weekend for the Western Kentucky game. Don’t be surprised if you see Ray cheering for the Hilltoppers, though. His brother, Brandon, is a redshirt junior offensive lineman for Western Kentucky.
Ray is quite familiar with Alabama. He’s been to Tuscaloosa so many times now that it’s hard to keep up with every trip he makes. This visit will be a little different for him, though. He’ll be flanked by two Alabama commits, Kyriq McDonald and Kendall Randolph. All three of those players are from Northern Alabama. McDonald and Ray are teammates at James Clemens High School, and Randolph goes to Bob Jones High School.
McDonald and Randolph committed together in a video last month. Both of the Tide commits wanted Ray to be a part of their video, but he isn’t ready to announce a decision just yet. But with his friends on board, Alabama’s chances with Ray have increased.
“It helps them out a lot,” Ray said in a recent interview with SEC Country. “I’ve known Kyriq and Kendall for almost my entire life. It’s definitely something to think about. Just to see them commit there, I’m happy for them.”
The Under Armour All-American is expected to take his five official visits before making a commitment, but he has said that if he gets that gut feeling, it’s possible a decision could be made on one of those trips. As his recruitment stands now, it’s an Alabama-Tennessee battle, according to a source close to his recruitment. Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Florida are in that second tier.
Ray is intrigued with the possibility of joining a program on the rise in Tennessee, he said, and with Alabama, he knows the school will compete for championships every single year.
“Alabama is a great school,” Ray said. “With them (McDonald and Randolph) two committing, it’s even better. But they both understand that it’s what’s best for me and my family, too, if I don’t go to Alabama. They’re going to be supportive either way.”
The state’s No. 1 prospect said those schools mentioned above are “locked in.” Don’t expect any other school to get in the mix for the nation’s No. 3 defensive end.
Alabama has a serious need for defensive linemen in the Class of 2017, and Ray may be the Tide’s top target on the defensive line. The Tide have two DL commitments in 4-star defensive tackle Akial Byers and 3-star defensive end Aaron Sterling. Sterling is viewed by outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi as a JACK, which is a hybrid of outside linebacker and defensive end.
Other targets on the defensive line include 4-star defensive tackle Elijah Conliffe, who Alabama leads for 4-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon. 4-star defensive end Isaiah Buggs, 4-star defensive end Ryan Johnson and 3-star defensive end Justin Thomas. There are several other names to know, such as 5-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson and 4-star defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin. I do not expect those two guys to end up in Alabama’s class as of today.
If I was offering a projection as to who I see in Alabama’s defensive line haul, I’d go with Byers, Conliffe, Ray and Thomas, who is currently committed to LSU. I do expect Sterling to de-commit at some point, though the staff is enamored with his game. He recently told SEC Country that South Carolina and Tennessee are pursuing harder at the moment.

Smith plans on being back in Tuscaloosa
After delaying his commitment date last month because of the tragic flooding in the state of Louisiana, Devonta Smith, a 4-star wide receiver from Amite (La.) High School, told SEC Country that he is planning on being in Tuscaloosa this weekend.
If Smith had gone through with his commitment last month, there’s no doubt in my mind Alabama would have been the pick for him. LSU and Miami were the other two finalists at the time.
The Army All-American has now slowed down his recruitment and will take it all the way until National Signing Day. Alabama is still in an excellent position to pick up one of its biggest targets at wide receiver.

Honors for several commits
Georgia freshman quarterback Jacob Eason won the Maxwell Football Club’s National High School Football Player of the Year Award last season, and several Alabama commits are in the running to win the prestigious award this year.
Five-star prospects QB Tua Tagovailoa, RB Najee Harris and OT Alex Leatherwood made the cut along with 4-star prospects WR Jerry Jeudy and LB VanDarius Cowan. Sixteen semifinalists will be named on Nov. 12, then six finalists will be announced on Dec. 15. The winner will be crowned on Jan. 18, 2017.
Former Alabama running back Derrick Henry won the award back in 2012 when he rushed for 4,261 yards and scored 56 total touchdowns as a senior at Yulee High School. Imagine if he didn’t win after putting up numbers like that?

DT Marvin Wilson
The situation: Wilson released his top 10 list of schools in June with no real surprises in the group. He recently said in an interview with SoonerScoop.com that he is going to cut that list down to five after he’s taken his official visits. A visit doesn't mean a school will be a finalist though.
The frontrunner: In perhaps a 1A and 1B scenario sit Texas and Oklahoma. Wilson has said that he has been a fan of the Longhorns since he was young but that there is also plenty to like about the Sooners. Texas’ Paul Boyette Jr.'s game against Notre Dame makes it easy to envision Wilson doing the same for the Longhorns, and he was there to see it in person. Meanwhile, Wilson said that the chances are ‘really high’ that the Sooners make it through to his top five.
The other option: Alabama and Ole Miss could emerge as the SEC options for Wilson over LSU after all. Wilson took a spring visit with teammate Walker Little to Oxford that was critical for the Rebels. He also did a peculiar thing a little more than a month ago when he deleted a tweet to the effect of ‘Alabama is back in my recruitment’ quickly after posting it.
Don’t count out: He mentioned that Ohio State and Florida State were two teams that were likely to receive official visits, despite him saying that doesn’t mean they will definitively make his top five.
When did Oklahoma jump into the mix? No L5U?

There were two marquee high school matchups in California this weekend, and Rivals was on hand for both. Calabasas (Calif.) defeated Los Angeles Salseian and Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy nipped Corona (Calif.) Centennial 50-49. Here are some observations from the games that featured some of the top players in the country.

ANTHONY, MOSES SPECIAL
Four-star linebackers Jordan Anthony and Dylan Moses both looked awesome for IMG Academy on Saturday night and that's not easy to do against Corona Centennial, which has such wide spreads on its offensive line and runs its offense incredibly fast up and down the field.
Both Anthony and Moses filled holes so quickly, lowered the boom time and again, got pressure in the backfield and did an excellent job all over the field for four quarters.
Anthony especially was productive time and time again slowing down running backs, timing his blitzes perfectly and being involved in so many plays I lost count. Moses played downhill, covered space so well and anything run to the outside, he had the speed and power to stop it immediately.

Brendan Radley-Hiles, better known as Bookie by everyone on Calabasas team, is listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, but there might not be a more physical corner in the West in the 2018 recruiting class.
Put simply, Radley-Hiles loves to hit whether he’s on offense or defense. At cornerback, Radley-Hiles is tough at the line and then anything in the open field, he does not hesitate to lower his shoulder and provide that highlight-reel play. He almost searches for people to hit.
When he was returning a kick in Friday’s game, a Salesian defender was riding him out of bounds and Radley-Hiles took it upon himself to stiff arm the player hard to make his presence known.
Not only is he super physical for being a smaller cornerback, but he’s outstanding in coverage, too. Radley-Hiles has that mentality that he wants to be the best on every play, make something big happen on every down and with his skill and physical play, it usually goes that way.
Oh, and he scored on an 82-yard kickoff return for a TD as well.
He named us his leader after his visit this summer. He's in the Class of 2018.

We have no shot at Okudah, long shot at Wilson, good shot at Browning and a bulls eye at Leatherwood. If Texas has a great year they'll keep Wilson and Browning. My guess.Let's see what happens.

I bet this Texas "insider" also said Saban to Texas is a done deal.

Punahou had no chance at stopping Alabama quarterback commit Tua Tagovailoa Friday night. The Alabama quarterback commit accounted for nine touchdowns in a 64-44 win. He threw for 447 yards and rushed for 104. He had 551 of his team's 586 yards of total offense. See this timeline for stats and highlights. Tagovailoa is now eighth on the Hawaii career passing list with 6,441 yards. The all-time mark is attainable, as he's just about 1,600 behind former Hawaii star Timmy Chang.

Tua is a slacker. Dude should have stepped up and done more for his team.
