At this point, I don't see Bama taking 3 running back. If they add another one, Robinson might be shown the door.

What do you guys think about the JC guys that are committed?

Baker is a take, he can come in a start at one of the tackle positions next year.

Not sold on Johnson, especially with all the high school LB out there. With Hamilton, Evans, Davis in the middle next year we should be set. McMillon and Holcombe to provide depth. If Evans jumps to the NFL take Johnson, if not I would rather have a LB with 4 years to play.

Dean is a complete head scratcher to me. Bama is absolutely loaded at DB. I just don't see where he will fit in at DB the next two years.

I like all 3. I think Dean may play FS. Harrison move to SS.

Elliot starting at RT. Jonah Williams LT.

Gary Johnson is a very good space LB. Doubt he will play much first year though honestly until year 2 after Evans and Hamilton are gone. So it would be he and Ben Davis inside and Mack Wilson and whomever emerges as the Jack by that time.

Per one of our assistants, Johnson is the best ILB we've recruited since Reuben and one of the best he's ever seen.

We want to keep him desperately. Believe that.

They like Dean as a CB. Pruitt absolutely loves tall, long guys who can run at CB. He checks off both of those boxes.

Also, I'm in Orlando until Saturday so I'm going to need someone to pick up my slack while I'm gone.

SEC Country, Bleacher Report, Rivals' free shite and BOL type stuff.

Pros: obvious size and likely room to build on that frame. physical run blocker who stays engaged to his man through the whistle. soft hands and turns up field quickly.

Cons: goes down too easy after catch (can be coached/corrected), and runs sloppy routes (can be coached, corrected).

MADISON, Ala. — Kyriq McDonald was on commitment watch for Alabama last Friday as he attended the team’s invite-only cookout, but he knew heading into that visit that he wouldn’t be a part of the Crimson Tide just yet.

McDonald, a 3-star defensive back from James Clemens High School (Madison, Ala.), told SEC Country that he was still making his final observations at the time. Shortly after returning home, he knew Alabama was going to be the place for him.

Kendall Randolph, a 4-star offensive guard from Bob Jones High School (Madison, Ala.), reached out to McDonald to see what his commitment plans were. That’s when the two long-time friends decided to commit to Alabama together in a commitment video.

“He’s just family, man,” McDonald said. “Not only did he want me to do the video with him, our families wanted us to do it together because of how long we have known each other.”

Now that McDonald is on board, he has one goal in mind. On every visit he has taken to Alabama, McDonald sees the 16 national championship display and thinks to himself how he can help contribute to that total when he gets to Tuscaloosa in 2017.

“I am ring-chasing,” McDonald said. “That’s what hard work gets you — rings. Hard work pays off.”

All the 5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect knows is hard work. After fantastic performances in camp this spring and summer, McDonald earned his offer from Alabama on June 18. Even before that date, he knew the Crimson Tide would eventually offer because McDonald knew the work he put in to get to that point.

“I grew up in a single-parent home and worked for everything I have,” McDonald said. “Everything I got, I worked for. I’m strong-minded. I had it in my mind that I was going to play football and be somebody. I wasn’t going to stay in Madison and stay home. I was going to make it.”

Not only is the new Alabama commit an impressive player on the field, he also excels in the classroom. He possesses a 3.5 GPA and has aspirations of majoring in mechanical engineering or computer science when he gets to Alabama.

McDonald’s commitment for Alabama is also important for another reason. He has two teammates at James Clemens who could potentially end up in Alabama’s class: 4-star defensive end LaBryan Ray and 3-star linebacker Monty Rice.

He thinks it’s likely that those guys join him in Tuscaloosa in 2017.

“We’re all family. We all grew up with each other,” McDonald said. It would be a surprise if they didn’t go to Alabama with us. Kendall, LaBryan and I grew up playing together and then Monty transferred to James Clemens and we all became close.”

The Alabama staff loves McDonald’s versatility. It’s one of the reasons why the team started prioritizing him recently. The Tide’s plans for him include playing him at star (sixth defensive back in Alabama’s dime defense), free safety, strong safety and on the kick and punt return teams.

Though McDonald has accomplished one of his main goals, he has his eyes set on his next goal.

“I haven’t let off the pedal yet,” McDonald said. “I’m not going to until I finish making it. I’m playing as a freshman. You can catch me on TV.”

I wonder if this will help us with Todd Harris. They're loading up at Safety and he'd have the opportunity to play earlier here.

I'm not sure why we aren't just turning away safeties at this point. Jackson leaves after this year and Harrison likely leaves after next. PT is there for someone to take if they want it. Also, after Harper, Johnson, Barron, Clinton-Dix, Collins, and soon Jackson all going to be NFL safeties, there is a good story to sell to recruits.

MADISON, Ala. — The commitments of Kyriq McDonald and Kendall Randolph have a huge impact on another top target for the Crimson Tide.

LaBryan Ray, a 4-star defensive end from James Clemens High School (Madison, Ala.), has known McDonald and Randolph since the little league days. He’s known both of them since he was 6 years old and considers them two of his close friends.

McDonald and Randolph committed Sunday to Alabama in a video together, but Ray is deciding to wait out his decision. Now that the Crimson Tide have commitments from his good friends, does that affect Alabama’s chances of landing him, too?

“It helps them out a lot,” Ray said. “I’ve known Kyriq and Kendall for almost my entire life. It’s definitely something to think about. Just to see them commit there, I’m happy for them.”

Alabama made Ray’s top six schools list Sunday along with Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Florida. Most people believe his recruitment will come down to the Crimson Tide and the Volunteers.

Ray is intrigued with the possibility of joining a program on the rise in Tennessee, he said, and with Alabama, he knows the school will compete for championships every single year. Though those two schools are still the prohibitive favorites, he said all six of the schools are recruiting him on the same level.

But Alabama now has an edge on the other five schools.

“Alabama is a great school,” Ray said. “With them (McDonald and Randolph) two committing, it’s even better. But they both understand that it’s what’s best for me and my family, too, if I don’t go to Alabama. They’re going to be supportive either way.”

The nation’s No. 5 defensive end said his top schools are “about locked in.” He doesn’t have a leader at this time and each of the six schools are recruiting him on an equal level.

Alabama and Tennessee are the two schools that are definitely getting official visits at this time. Florida will likely get one, too. Those official visits for Ray are very important because he said it’s possible he ends up committing to a school while on an official visit. If he chooses not to commit during one of those visits, he said he will just wait until the season is over.

As Ray was getting interviewed, McDonald, his teammate at James Clemens, made sure he heard his message for him loud and clear.

“Roll Tide, LaBryan!” McDonald screamed twice.

Both McDonald and Randolph are going to make sure Ray hears a lot of ‘Roll Tides’ in the future until the Crimson Tide gets his commitment.
