Is moving Tosh to OLB a good thing? I thought his position of specialty was DL

Lance Thompson got his start under Saban as a TE coach, and ended up an OLB coach. That's more apples to oranges than DE to 34 OLBs.

He's the passrush coach essentially. He probably has a decent knowledge of LBs, true mark of a coach. Plus a lot of the SAMs crosstrain inside at well, so not a lot is thrown at him at 1 time.

Make no mistake, he's here for recruiting reasons, but even worst case I can't see him being worse than LT as a position coach...

From AlabamaIntel:

K.J. Hill:

1.  North Little Rock High School wide receiver K.J. Hill took his official visit to the Capstone and had what his father called an “eye-opening” experience.  It led to him de-committing from the in-state Hawgs after pledging to them this past August 29th.  The Army All-American was a fixture in Fayetteville throughout the summer and fall, visiting multiple times before pledging, but Crimson Tide area recruiter Billy Napier continued to recruit the explosive slot receiver.  Hill unofficially visited Tuscaloosa for the Tide’s epic Iron Bowl 55-44 comeback win, which began to lead to the events of today.  Billy Napier then visited Hill in his native Little Rock just days before Razorbacks Offensive Coordinator Jim Chaney left to join new Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi’s coaching staff in the same position.  This uncertainty, as Arkansas has not named his replacement as of this writing, was the final straw after Hill received the red carpet treatment from Nick Saban & UA OC Lane Kiffin this weekend in Tuscaloosa.  Shortly after the visit, the North Little Rock HS star announced via Twitter he was de-committing and re-opening his recruitment.  According to his father, he will now have an in-home with National Champion OSU and visit Columbus this weekend.  His official to Fayetteville likely comes on the final weekend before signing day.  The Hawgs, along with Florida and Ole Miss join the Tide as his favorites.  Where does Alabama stand? Likely near the top if Hill is given the green light to join the class, as he admitted to fellow WR & official visitor Lawrence Cager, who said the 6-0 188-pounder admitted to being privately committed to Alabama earlier this summer…INTEL knows the staff really likes Hill but will have to decide how/if he fits with only 2-3 spots remaining…One other interesting nugget is that Hill’s former teammate, Tide RB Altee Tenpenny, was dismissed from the program Sunday…stay tuned!

Lawrence Cager

2.  Wide Receiver Lawrence Cager of Towson, Maryland, took his official visit to Tuscaloosa and had a great time according to sources.  This was his fourth visit to Tuscaloosa but the first for his mother, who was very impressed overall, especially with the academic plan.  Cager has held Alabama high among his favorites since putting on a dominant camp performance this past July, which saw his recruitment take off.  The 6-5 205-pounder enjoyed his host, rising sophomore WR Robert Foster, and talked with former All_American Amari Cooper for an hour as well.  With only 2-3 spots remaining, the UA staff would like to take one more wide receiver.  Will it be Cager?   The Maryland native has already taken official visits now to Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Wake Forest and now Alabama.  The Army All-American, who came VERY close to committing to the Crimson Tide on January 3rd at the Army All-American Bowl before being told to hold off, instead pledged to the Miami Hurricanes and will take his final official visit to Coral Gables next weekend.  It will likely play out by January 30th…INTEL prefers Cager to be in the class over Hill, who did not impress at The Opening or the Army game, because of his size and athletic ability.

Daylon Charlot

3.  The third wide receiver to visit was Daylon Charlot of Patterson, Louisiana,  It was the first visit to Tuscaloosa since fall camp in August for the Under Armour All-American.  who was committed to the Tide early in the cycle at a Junior Day last February before an official visit to home-state LSU in mid-December led to a de-commitment.  The prevailing thought was Charlot would pledge to the Bayou Bengals at the Under Armour game, where the 6-0 180-pounder had a 54-yard punt return TD.   The Louisiana native seemed to be very pro-Alabama according to Cager and others on hand during his weekend visit, with most thinking he is already back in the fold, leaving a spot for one more wide receiver.  Will he go public soon, perhaps, but word is that this situation “could” last until signing day and play out much like former UA WR Kenny Bell’s, who decided to wait flip on signing day from LSU to Alabama.  Will be interesting to monitor…INTEL expects Charlot in the class.

Just thinking out loud but what causes a student athlete to be dismissed? Failed drug tests? flunking classes and not going to classes? Not going to off season work outs?

NS has said on numerous occasions that kids are not kicked off the team because they are not good enough as long as they do the things they are asked to do. There is a kid with the last name of Orr that I am pretty sure was a scholarship kid who never saw the field but was never processed.

I wish Bobby Williams would do whatever Tenpenny did.

have U ever had a good friend and others wonder why you still hang with this person. Sometimes loyalty trumps other things. Bobby and NS go back a long way. Our ST was not the problem this year. Our TE's were not the problem this year. Our FG kicker developed some kind of back injury which made him less then effective near the end of the year. Either way Bobby gets crapped on by a lot of fans but not sure there is anyone on this staff that is more loyal then Bobby W.

Nick is going to make sure Bobby gets 2 more years in the system - whether that is on field or in an administrative role. You are going to hear the name Bobby Williams associated with Bama for at least (and, quite likely, at most) 2 more years.

You also have to remember this isn't the NFL where you have a dedicated Special Teams Coordinator. CNS has stated that all the coaches are responsible for special teams with CBW getting the title of coordinator.

What about TEs? Does Bobby coach those? If so, why have we been in a drought since BMW graduated?

KJ Hill's stepdad's post on arky247

quote:

Though I feel I owe none of you explanations concerning our son or anyone in our family, I will give you this...our kid made his decision based on many things that a board will never know. Most of you have such a hate for kids in these situations, that it wouldn't matter what transpired between the kid and the school, coaches etc., I shouldn't have to say this to grown people, but things happen in life to people, that don't happen to you! That's because you are not them!! Which in turn, means you couldn't possibly understand what that person is dealing with in his/her life situation. I'm sick of most ofyou, as much of you claim you are of my family. Contrary to what was said, as far as I could had handled this better, I/we did the best we could in handling this. I will say this for future reference, my family and I have dealt with a lot of kids in this state, as mentors, and they and their families know us. They see how for a football, people in this State will pull their child apart, and make them out to be an evil being, no matter their character. Many have said to us, why would you let your son go to Fayetteville, saying those things about y'all? Even while KJ was committed. He stuck with his commitment for us, until he had reason to be concerned. I don't care that he committed to Arkansas at the Hall of Fame...that was set up by someone else for you guys. He's a hard working kid. Worked for all he has gotten, and don't owe none of you nothing. With that being said, there are others watching how you treat these kids with all this hatred and anger, and I've heard them say they will not allow their child to attend Arkansas. We want our child to be happy, more than make any of you happy. Yeah..maybe I / we could have handled it better, according to some of you, but that's your damn opinion, which, at this point, means nothing to us. Cause in the end, we realize that the majority of you don't really give a damn about us or our family. Just how much you could get out of our kid to help your favorite team win..and that's the truth. In the end, we will be ok, I promise you that. We made it here without you, and will continue to make as we always have..with God & family.

I'm just thankful that we have a levelheaded fanbase that does not attack kids for choosing other schools.
