I did not read the link but they talked about our last two QB's 40 times but no mention of Barnett's time. Any idea what it is

It was in the paragraph above that:

quote:

A large, physical frame helps him break tackles, but Barnett also flashes the ability to burst past defenders with tremendous speed for an athlete of his stature. Clocked at 4.7 seconds in the 40-yard dash, per Tyler James of the South Bend Tribune, he exhibits better wheels than those who've orchestrated Alabama's offense during recent title runs.

AJ McCarron, a two-time national champion and Heisman Trophy finalist, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.94 seconds at the NFL combine. His predecessor, Greg McElroy, finished the sprint in 4.84 seconds during his combine efforts after leading Alabama to an unbeaten 2009 season.

He'll probably run it in the SPARQ portion of the Opening today. I'll be watching tonight to see which SPARQ event is rigged. One year it was the 40 and one year it was the vert

Rigged for what purpose? I don't ever watch these so not that familiar with them, unless it's something I've seen on Frozen for the millionth time or 24 re-runs.

Maybe "rigged" isn't the right word, how bout poorly calibrated?

There was 1 year when the vert numbers were crazy high pretty much across the board. The next year vert scores were normal but 40 times were suspiciously fast.

What did that one white LB run that year to beat Derrick Henry like a 4.2

He ran a 4.39. Tenpenny ran 4.42 and Henry ran 4.45. All the 40's seemed about a tenth of a second faster than you'd expect that year

The next year (2013), the 40 times were more reasonable, but there were 7 people who had verts over 40" compared to 2 the year before.

Usually players who report late wind up redshirting a la Lacy and Robert Foster. That said, he could be a beast on STs

@BruceFeldmanCFB: Another QB who is putting together a really strong week at @Elite11 is #Bama commit Blake Barnett.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: #Bama QB commit Blake Barnett told me after de-committing from NotreDame, an ND fan tweeted at him saying he hoped he tears his ACL.

That's the norm these days though right. Every fan base has a couple of those types of fans.

Yeah, unfortunately there are idiots in every fan base. From ours that tweeted at Cade Foster to ND's tweeting at Barnett.

On eve of 7-on-7, breaking down the Elite 11 finalists

BEAVERTON, Ore. — If all invitees enter the competition with an even grade, it's common to see three or four prospects quickly freight train to the front of the pack at the Elite 11, the hyped summertime quarterback showcase featuring some of the best senior-to-be talent in each year's recruiting class.

This isn't the case in 2014, where 19 quarterbacks have come, played, thrown and remained tightly packed through two days of competition. This isn't an indictment of a lack of talent — it's the opposite, in fact, with recruits set for Alabama, UCLA, USC and all points in between alternating turns as the field's best quarterback.

When Elite 11 counselors Bryce Petty, Connor Cook, Sean Mannion, Everett Golson, Travis Wilson and Davis Webb aren't participating, at least.

Yet the talent abounds: Drew Lock, Travis Waller, Josh Rosen, Ricky Town and others are impressive alone, to put it lightly, and together this might be the most impressive Elite 11 group since at least 2011 — a group then paced by reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston.

"No one has really pushed out in front," coach George Whitfield said. "Rosen might be the most polished, but no one has really just ripped out front, and no one's getting left behind. They're more talented than last year's group."

Yes, the talent is obvious. Here's a breakdown of each invitee, with on-field observations and comments from Whitfield and fellow Elite 11 coaches Trent Dilfer and Jordan Palmer:

quote:

Blake Barnett, Corona (Calif.) Santiago | Committed to Alabama

Barnett certainly looks the part, every inch of his 6-4 frame, and seems to fit perfectly into what Nick Saban and offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin want from the position — smarts, pocket presence and the ability to deliver the ball from sideline to sideline.

"Blake Barnett has been Steady Eddie," Dilfer said. "And he's Steady Eddie with, obviously, major physical traits.

"He's been so good, but nothing spectacular, but we're not asking him to be spectacular. We're asking him to be consistent, and he's doing everything we've asked."

Dilfer's on point with his assessment: Barnett hit top gear from the start and never slowed, showing the sort of consistent delivery and mental approach that bodes well for his turn with the Crimson Tide.
