Someone put down our board and I responded accordingly.

The thread in question involved the longest running thread on TD.

Get some sunglasses. Brace yourself for all of the sunshine that is about to be pumped up your arse:

Again, Drew D. TIFWIW. I report, you decide.

quote:

At AlabamaINTEL, we are fortunate to have excellent sources who get excellent team info; five nuggets of information with fall camp just a little over one month away:

Coker: Expectations are VERY high
1. Jacob Coker: The reports continue to get better every week. Word today from one of our best sources is: When Nick Saban and others call you phenomenal…WOW…Coach Saban was referring to a player (Coker) we need to step up. Going to be a good year if this is the case. Source said he could be special if everything comes together. Also talked to the best high school quarterback coach I know of and he said when he went to a clinic there recently that he had never seen anything like it. He coached against Coker in high school and said Jimbo has turned him into an NFL prospect. Coach also said if bama OL can come together this might be Saban’s most prolific offense ever because of the wr. No sunshine pumped as you know but this was really my only concern about this team. Said it was so noticeable how talented he is that the players gravitate to him. Nothing against Blake but they see the writing on the wall. His go to guy so far has been OJ Howard. They have clicked.

2. Joshua Casher: Has REALLY excelled as a pass-blocker in 7-on-7; may make it hard to redshirt him; already thought to be nasty as a run-blocker; projects at guard but only because of his height; Only in the 6-foot range but extremely athletic with the feet to be an offensive tackle. Will be able to be EXCEPTIONAL pulling and help the running game on the edge. AlabamaINTEL will be speaking to his high school coach tomorrow to give a more in-depth look into one of the more underrated (but not by Redfish) prospects in the star-studded 2014 class.

3. Rashaan Evans: word is has the work ethic and hunger of a walk-on; bench-pressed his current body weight (6’4 225) 25 TIMES…to put in perspective, former DL Jesse Williams, two-time National Champion and Super Bowl winner with the Seahawks, bench pressed 225 27 times at the NFL combine. He also clocked a 4.5 40 during workouts…LAWD! Should be an impact player on third downs at the very least. His signing will prove HUGE…great credit to Kirby Smart, Nick Saban and the entire UA staff. Just a MASSIVE pick-up for the Crimson Tide.

4. Dominick Jackson, a legit 6-6, will compete at right guard with incumbent and fellow JC transfer Leon Brown, now a senior. If the junior college standout from College of San Mateo does not win the right guard position, he will very likely back up/compete with Cameron Robinson to solidify left tackle. Jackson’s talent will only make the OL competition better; still believe he wins the job at right guard, where he was named a first-team JC All-American last season and the top Juco OL in the country.

5. Tony Brown continues to impress with his toughness and work ethic; has impressed teammates who have said: we don’t know if he will start this season, but we have NEVER seen someone almost KILL themselves to try and win a starting job as a freshman. Has the ability to be a world-class (Olympian) in Track & Field, but make no mistake: he is a football player running track…will be INSTANT IMPACT this season. Dare say he is the most polished freshman corner of the Saban era, even more so than Dee Milliner and Kareem Jackson…STRONG!

Drew D had an interview with Blake Barnett. This is part one. I will C&P the important parts in the next posts.

quote:

Drew DeArmond: First of all Blake, I want to start with you. Give them a little bit of background on you right now.

Blake Barnett: Well, my high school is in Southern California and we run what is called a west coast offense. We run the spread and do a lot of zone read which leads to me running the ball quite often. I would not categorize myself a stereotypical dual threat quarterback even though that is what has been handed down to me. I’m not too in favor of it. Most dual threat quarterbacks can’t really pass the ball. They are more running type and then throw a couple of deep balls down the field. I prefer to think of myself as someone who can sit in the pocket and throw the ball down field and move the chains and if need be extend the play with my legs.

quote:

Drew DeArmond: I spoke to your coach today, Jeff Steinberg, and you can attest to this. He said that, and you can attest to this, that last year was your first year starting and first year in that system. You played in pro style systems up to that point. Is that correct?

Blake Barnett: Yes. Coming up through Jr All-American and middle school and even freshman year I ran more of that style of offense.

quote:

Cary Clark: to Blake Barnett: Talk about how Lane Kiffin impacted your decision.

Blake Barnett: I think coach Kiffin played a big part in it. Obviously he has produced some very successful quarterbacks at USC that went on to play at the next level. How they did there was up to them, but he got them there and I think they played very successful in college and that had to do with his offense and his coaching. It’s awesome to be under a coach with a great offensive scheme and to be able to put players into the next level and give us the opportunity to do so.

Cary Clark: to Lance Barnett: What was your impression of Coach Kiffin?

Lance Barnett: He’s got a great track record of producing high powered offenses at USC and putting QBs in the NFL. He has a great sense of humor and I was very comfortable with him. The whole staff is absolutely amazing. Bama fans should be very proud of their staff. It is very nice as a father to come into a program and feel so comfortable right off the back.

quote:

Cary Clark: Blake, when did you know for sure it was going to be Bama?
Blake Barnett: Yesterday was when it really hit me and made my final decision. This past week I’ve thought about it a lot and talked to my family about it and we realized that for my future as a player, student and person, Alabama was the best place for me.
Lance Barnett: In my opinion, after day 1, I was hoping that Blake would see the value that ALabama brought to the table. I was hoping that he would see it and I am proud that he did.

quote:

Drew DeArmond: You guys got to see something that we don’t get to see. First, Blake, when I watched your announcement – you said you met with Nick Saban SIX times in a 3 day span which stuck with me. Talk about your impression of Nick Saban. How did you feel about the meetings?

Blake Barnett: It was incredible. Meeting Saban for the first time in person in his office. He was extremely welcoming. He is very easy to talk to and extremely intelligent about the game of football. You could sit back and just listen to him tell you everything he knows about football and just be amazed. Right off the bat we built a great relationship which led to us meeting several times during my visit and that was a huge factor in my decision. The fact that I could talk to a coach easily because whereever I have to go for 4 years its nice to know I have a good relationship with that coach

Drew DeArmond: Obviously Lance you had a chance to speak with Saban. Talk about your impression of Saban and the structure he’s established at Alabama.

Lance Barnett: He is truly amazing. All facets of the program share a common goal and direction and it is set by him. It is comforting knowing that he will be in charge of the program for years to come. He really focuses on developing the mental fortitude to handle the pressure of the game and its the little details that really matter to him. That is what impressed me about coach Saban.

Cary Clark: I read that you read a 4.8 40 yd dash, but what is your actual 40?

Blake Barnett: My 40 right now is about a 4.8. I still need to work on my form, but I think in games, something flips the switch and turn the gear up a bit and I get moving. I don’t know what it is, but its a different feeling

quote:

Drew DeArmond: Blake, a lot of people said you were a dual threat QB, but you felt comfortable in the Kiffin system. What do you think you fit was in that system? What was the thing that attracted you the most with Alabama?

Blake Barnett: Kiffin’s offense and Saban’s scheme made a big impact. I think the pro style offense is something that has been around for a long time and will be around for a long time. Obviously if you have the ability to sit in the pocket and throw the ball that is where quarterbacks get their claim to fame and what we pride ourselves on doing. That is what the true threat of a QB is: to sit in the pocket and throw. It’s nice to get out of the pocket every once in awhile and take off down field to get the yardage that you need to get your team in position.

Drew DeArmond: Talking to Coach Steinberg, he felt one of the biggest attractions to UA was that you (Blake) love to work. Is that one of the biggest attractions to UA since you have such a work ethic?

Blake Barnett: Definitely. That is a big thing at Alabama. I know that I am going to have to work extremely hard once I get there and that isn’t a problem whatsoever. I am going to embrace what I have to go through and do whatever I can to get a starting position as soon as possible and to help myself and the team succeed and do whatever it takes.

quote:

Cary Clark: Blake, in your conversation with Kiffin, was there a discussion about a read option package or was it strictly drop back passing?

Blake Barnett: They said pro style offense isn’t going to change. They think I’ll be able to do some different things in terms of getting outside of the pocket and rolling out. I didn’t hear anything about read option, but I think getting out and running some bootlegs and throw out of the pocket and still be able to throw in the pocket will be a big advantage and that was what they were looking forward to doing.

Drew DeArmond: Blake, can you talk about the QB coach you work with every day. Your high school offense is shotgun 24/7, but the QB coach does plenty with 5-step, 7-step, and snapping under center which makes your coach think you’ll have a smooth transition. Talk about what you work on with the QB coach.

Blake Barnett: The QB coach is Dennis Gile out in Arizona. I do a lot of work under center and work in shotgun to prepare myself for my senior high school season and obviously in the next level shotgun isnt always in play, so I have to prepare myself for under center. I don’t think its a problem taking 5 or 7-step drops. I have been working on it for 2 years now and that’s not an issue.

Drew DeArmond: One thing that struck me is that a lot of your high school offense is a lot of vertical pass patterns. How strong is your arm?

Blake Barnett: I can throw the ball about 75 to 80 yards on a good day, but thats about the range I have. It is unnecessary in that I’ll never have to throw the ball that far, but it will come in handy for sticking a ball across the middle inbetween linebackers.

Barnett has upside, and it looks like he's got a good work ethic. The QB competition after Coker leaves is going to be interesting.
