My reaction to the mere thought that these guys could play in the Iron Bowl and be effective:

After the Ms St game a reporter was asking Saban about the problems at the linebacker position. Saban gave the well we need to do this and we need to do that, etc, then said: and maybe we get a few of those guys back. That made me wonder if he was talking about Miller and Lewis. There have been numerous rumors that Miller has practiced some, but Im sure that would only have been non contact stuff, if true.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that he expects them back for Auburn.

What role will they be able to have? Who knows, but all of this just seems like they are going to play to me. He would not have brought that up in his press conference on his own the week before Mercer unless they were on the verge.

Who is going to start the: "What does Miller & Lewis' Mother think of Saban since they had season ending injuries and Saban is forcing them to play hurt" thread?

So basically what I posted awhile back was that Miller had been practicing which is true, I personally saw it. I also saw him and Lewis workout, they looked impressive.

Also in reference to the Mack Wilson thing. The two comments I have been told are this:

They were thinking the SECCG game and he is well ahead of schedule. I have not been told for sure he will be IB ready.

Sources: 2 injured Tide outside LBs expected back soon
quote:

Barring a setback, Christian Miller is expected to be able to play against Auburn next week, according to sources. Terrell Lewis is on track to return soon as well, though the SEC championship game -- if the Crimson Tide should make it there -- is probably the more realistic target date for Lewis, per sources.

I also think getting these guys back will get Anfernnee Jennings pass rush going.

Having either back is a game changer IMO. Mosley is solid but not dynamic. Miller brings the speed off the edge as does Lewis. We def need at least one of them. As for Mack I'd love to have him back but I am hearing Moses is not looking bad with his 1 reps.

I said that weeks ago. I also said Lewis was just behind him. Seems to be the case. I'll by the source a nice bottle of Jamison.

If Miller does return for IB, question is how much can he play? He'd definitely have some rust to knock off. I'm guessing he would be a situational guy on obvious passing downs, which would be great. But my main concern with AU is our ability to stop their run game, and not sure Miller helps us with that right out of the gate. Really need Mac back for that, I'm afraid.

Also, by "functional phase" does that mean practicing but no contact yet? That's sort of what it sounds like.

Alabama Football: Christian Miller to return for Auburn game
quote:

Alabama football fans are excited to learn linebacker Christian Miller should be medically cleared to return for the Auburn Game.

In the Alabama football season opener against Florida State, Christian Miller tore a biceps muscle. The injury required surgery and it was announced he would be out for the season. Recent rumors have suggested Miller’s recovery has been more rapid than expected. Miller has been hinting at a return in tweets for the last couple of weeks.

Barring a setback, Christian Miller is expected to be able to play against Auburn next week, according to sources. Terrell Lewis is on track to return soon as well, though the SEC championship game — if the Crimson Tide should make it there — is probably the more realistic target date for Lewis, per sources.

Christian Miller and Terrell Lewis are both outside linebackers. Going into the 2017 season, Miller was expected to be the Tide’s most productive outside rusher, as a replacement for NFL-bound Tim Williams.

Alabama football has lost four key linebackers to injury this season in Miller, Lewis, Shaun Dion Hamilton and Mack Wilson. The more recent injuries to Hamilton and Wilson have depleted the roster at inside linebacker.

Against Mississippi State, Keith Holcombe and true freshman Dylan Moses joined Rashaan Evans at inside linebacker. Holcombe and Moses did not perform well in their expanded roles. Based on practice reports this week, it appears Moses will get more snaps against Mercer than Holcombe, playing in both the Nickel and Dime defensive units.

Miller on ‘Pitch-Count’

Assuming Christian Miller can practice next week and assuming his conditioning is game-ready, having him on the outside against Auburn would strengthen the Tide defense. Even if both assumptions prove positive, it is likely Miller will be on what Nick Saban likes to call a ‘pitch-count’ limiting his playing time.

After a long break from injury, few players can get back to full game conditioning in less than two or three games. Even if Miller’s ‘pitch-count’ is limited against the Tigers, having him available situationally aids the Tide and forces Auburn to prepare for his involvement.

Based on tweets and message boards, it appears Miller, Lewis (torn elbow ligament) and Mack Wilson (broken foot) are not interested in medical redshirt options. There is no solid information that Lewis or Wilson can return for the Auburn game but the SEC Championship game is a possibility.

Nick Saban was quite upbeat in the Wednesday press review. Perhaps it had something to do with sharing positive news on the early returns of these important Crimson Tide defenders.

Miller would likely play like 15 plays maybe. But it depends on him really. If Lewis joins him we may be in a great look for this game.

I said it an hour or so after he was injured. Told my wife he'd be back by Auburn.

Jokes aside, I hope they make it.

All we need is for him to be in there on every 3rd down. His pressure would be huge.

I remember just before the FSU game I told my buddy that even though it sucks that Miller gets injured he will be back for the Auburn game.
