Well earned. He’s giving Bucket Step Bob a real run at it.

I dont know much about OL scheme and coaching, but I do know when players who were effective are no longer effective thats probably not a great reflection on the coach and system.

Theres no reason Roberts and Dewberry at their size should be allowing first contact a full yard or more in our backfield on average. Roberts was showing signs of being a mauler two years ago so while Ill defend a ton of things we have not effectively used the players we recruited and retained on the OL.

If we wanted to go with undersized quick pulling guards those guys are a dime a dozen and can be had cheap in the portal because most teams want NFL prototype maulers. Could've brought in two during the offseason and sat our guys behind them.

But when we kept our 340+ pound slow footed guards and didnt have them each lose 20-30lbs we should've been aware at that point that we needed to go downhill, cut the dancing and tell them to smash someone instead of playing on their heels all season.

We don't need to be elite at running the ball, we just needed to be able to pickup 3-4 yards an an A gap dive when the safeties are back and we haven't seen that all season.

I think this staff didn't know what kind of roster they had heading into 2025. It speaks to bad evaluations and development. I said it elsewhere that - while I don't expect DeBoer to be a run-heavy head coach - this staff needed to look at their options on the OL and realize this team needed to be able to have a near 50/50 run-pass split to be a great offense. Sure It would have probably been closer to 55-45 or 60-40 in reality but Alabama is knocking on 80-20 pass to run splits most games now.

We simply do not have the right side of the OL to be passing that much. It was obvious from the start of the season to the fans. How in the hell was it not obvious to the million dollar men that get to see them in practice every day? However, bad investments in offseason conditioning, development, and practice focus leading up to the season led to a team that cannot run the ball well enough to pass the football against elite competition.

I didn't expect them to become the 2008 Alabama offense but frankly even Saban didn't want to be that either in 2008. That team was constructed to maximize winning. Saban always wanted to be explosive in the air but the 2008 team's best receiver was a freak true freshman and the 2nd best was probably their good-for-college-but-no-pro-future TE.

The 2025 Alabama offense was not built to maximize winning. They're running their scheme but the mix of players aren't able to execute it. Don't give a shite if you want to run zone scheme, you've got personnel for gap scheme.

I always go back to Coach Bryant’s quote that if it’s 3rd or 4th and one, and you can’t consistently pick up that one yard, you probably don’t deserve to win.

Sad thing is, this Bama offense often can’t pick up that one yard. Something has absolutely got to change. Kapilovic being canned is a good start.

The question is how much of the OL scheme and technique is dictated by Kap vs. someone like Grubb, who himself was a longtime OL coach.

OLC is usually the run game coordinator but not the play caller

There is a play(Iron Bowl) inside the red zone that hill is running the toss and Procter makes contact with the D-linemen and releases the block after about 2 seconds of contact. Hill literally runs into the guys arms and get slammed down to the ground. All Procter had to do was stand in the way and hill is pass the D- linemen and heading to the goal-line..Its like our O-line does not block to the whistle and There not fast enough when they pull to be able to Square back up to have any-force to impact. Its always making the Back wait until they get there.

Our backs like AK dear, Riely, Jam would be more affective via his burst if we get get a hat on who is in front of you and let the back pick the gap he see's.Also Ive seen(during time out's) our RB coach holla at the O-line coach multiple times like the O-line coach is confused and the Linemen or not sure of the call.

3rd down and 2 is like a mile to this bunch. Our ball carriers don't fight for extra yardage especially if they're near the sideline. They just run out of bounds. One defender takes out backs down in addition to stopping their forward motion on a dime. Just F ridiculous.
