You read about QBs WRs DEs and a few other elite prospects getting big deals here and there. However how long until the rank and file realize that the big money guys making more than most the team combined needs the rest of them to be effective? Well I’m sure a lot of them know that but it’s just a matter of time until some political science lineman makes a union to stick it to the man.

Already been tried by Northwestern players.
Big difference in getting endorsement money vs being classified as an employee.
Athletes would also no longer be labeled student athletes at their school but employees of that school. Scholarships would than become income and Olympic sports at many schools would disappear because athletes based on the value of the scholarship including meals, lodging, travel, and anything provided could be labeled as income pushing the majority of athletes into a tax bracket that the majority would not be able to pay.
The NCAA would also no longer have any jurisdiction over the athletes as they would under the authority of the labor department.
The real interesting part would be the SEC and other states that are right to work and at will states vs union states. In a union really hard to fire/cut a player for any reason. In the south a little different.
Texas might like it though for recruiting because they do not have the jock tax which would decrease tax liability for any player playing for a Texas school.

If such a thing was to happen they couldn’t limit it to just CFB players. Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Soccer etc… would want in also on that.
Let’s say it’s called International Brotherhood of Collegiate Players Association. The amount of staff personnel it would take to manage it would be off the charts huge.
Voting in a International President then said President would have to appoint Vice President over different districts of the country, form a Executive Board to oversee funds etc… lawyers to write the International Bylaws then Bylaws of different districts and that is just the beginning.
It would probably be the biggest union ever formed. And all these ppl I mentioned above would have to be paid of course. All the members in said union would have to pay union dues to pay all the these ppl to run it.
I was a member of a union for 23yrs and was an elected officer the served on the E-Board for 10yrs. It would be a massive undertaking to form it, operate it and maintain it. Don’t even get me started on the political side of it, but it’s all about the dollars first and foremost.
That would be a fricking nightmare and a cesspool of corruption waiting to happen.

Which is why it’s going to happen. The sharks are already circling, I would guess.

They should just threaten to pull all scholarships then watch the thugs who instigate back away. There things are not hard, I would rather see a skinny guy play for the love of the game, as an unprofessional, than watch the game become prostituted. Once these instigators understood they would lose all these scholarships, they would stop with all the BS Instigation.
