Well, ESD has come and gone, and we haven’t heard anything about Golding. Starting to get a pit in my stomach that he is coming back. Anyone hear anything new?

It's early yet, dude. Chill. We still have the bowls, the playoffs, both college and NFL and regular signing day to get through before we get to Spring practice. Chances are Nick's target may still be coaching ball.

Yeah we are getting some serious offensive coordinators in the SEC.

I don’t want to dog the guy and say he’s terrible, but he’s clearly in over his head.

I've posted some of this before, but I hope it's OK with you folks that I go into it again.
I. What we 'know' is that re:Golding our own Boz dropped that PG would be gone. That's all info we have. If true, it will not be 'confirmed' for some time, cause CNS has his own agenda and way of doing hirings & firings.
II. Why does Golding have to go, despite being a smart and solid DC?
1. PG's a laid back kinda guy, which doesn't match with the intensity desired from a Bama DC and a Bama defense.
2.PG can't get his point across to players in-game (formations, changes), something Pruitt is brilliant at. He either can't during the game or can't get his players to adjust.
3. There is no time to wait anymore. After 2 wasted years the Bama D has to be restored to its standard. Can't wait another full year for that. Yes, there were injuries but this is Alabama. Coaches don't get a free pass here. There is no room for 'well, let's see next year'.
III. I'm sure Saban is keenly aware of this. Bama DC's are always elite and Golding isn't elite (yet). Maybe he needs more time, maybe it's a bad stylistic fit, but something's got to give. The bar is set very high at Bama: elite coach, elite teacher, elite recruiter and needs to fit the Bama Standard (intensity wise). Who that guy is I don't know, but we can't do Year 3 of having to rely on our offense to compensate for a sub-par (or even mediocre) defense.
Hope everybody got to enjoy Christmas.

Cecil just retweeted a report that Enos and Miami are expected to part ways after the bowl game.
Enos is a helluva QB coach but must be hard to work with. He never stays more than a couple of years at one place.

I know many Miami fans will be happy Enos is leaving.

If Miami was serious about football, they should make a run at Miami native Joe Brady.
I'm still holding out hope that Saban's targeting Jim Leonhard. Late Nate Oats do the recruiting since he's a fellow Wisky native.

Do you think he'd leave his alma mater for the same position at Bama?
ETA: Also, he's a DB coach. Can Karl Scott coach another position? I assume Kelly could coach LBs.

According to this:
LINK
Kelly has some minor experience coaching linebackers. Pity that ILBs isn't Leonhard's field of expertise.
But for sure it will be difficult to pry him away from Wisconsin. Saban will have to throw at least 1,5 mil at him and hope that they won't match it. Even then it will be difficult to tempt him. However, IMHO the Alabama's DC is a promotion. Not the biggest one (that's a HC job), but a Wisconsin coordinator position is NOT on the same level as an Alabama coordinator position.

I believe that's where Dave Aranda was DC before the big switch to LSU. They threw the bank at him of course but even north of 2 million a year he has kept them competitive. I'm with you, the chance to win championships is on the minds of coaches the same as players. You also get to coach Bama type talent and big money should be plenty of incentive to get us a proven coordinator.

If you come here as a coordinator and have success, it's a ticket to the big time. Four coordinators from this run went on to become head coaches in the SEC. Those are plum jobs...even Ole Miss. Let's not forget that they were #4 in the very first CFP poll and were 4th and 25 away from playing in Atlanta.
That alone should be enough incentive to attract a good coordinator, if he wants to go that route. I'd rather have someone who's content with being the best defensive coordinator in college football.

Completely agree with you. I would love to have an elite DC 'lifer' who doesn't have his eye on the door all year, leaves Bama just before NSD1 and screws up your recruiting AND playoff preparation...
What wasn't mentioned about where the Bama DC position is different from others is: 1. completely different amount of pressure and expectations and 2. you may not have all the freedom you'd like as a DC (given Saban's preferences).
There is another thread about an interview with Pete Golding. Would he be giving interviews if he expects to be shown the door??? I believe PG has potential, but I also believe we need someone else. Someone who stands for what the Bama D used to stand for.

No word yet if his staff was fired too. A new coach could bring with him a new staff, which may have consequences for Tosh Lupoi. I sure hope Tosh will not be returning to college to recruit against us.
Maybe Saban should ask him to coach ILBs for us?
