Just waiting to hear that the AHSAA has cancelled all athletic events for the rest of the semester. About to have a lot more free time at night.

As a coach in Mississippi , do you think that will happen or heard anything? We are in spring break over here but have been wondering if it will trickle down to high school level

No idea. I ref soccer (have 1 game tonight and games next Tuesday and Friday so far). As soon as confirmed cases start mounting up, I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

Just read an article on AL.com. AHSAA sent a letter to school officials saying they are "closely monitoring the Coronavirus situation in the state and the surrounding states." They are in contact with state officials who are monitoring the situation. "Please know, the AHSAA is committed to keeping the health and safety of our student-athletes and fans at the forefront."

I also won the Masters lotto for the first time this year. It seems certain that no patrons will be allowed.

The medical community was saying one week ago that 80% have no symptoms at all. Zero. 20 pct have symptoms. About 17 pct are severe, and about 1% have died. And it is true that most of those that resulted in death at elderly or have compromised medical conditions. The overwhelming % of those with this virus have already recovered and are fine.. The situation is this virus is very new, and everyone is dealing with the unknown, so we need to err on the side of caution.

1N1 swine flu killed 10,000 Americans, sent 213,000 to the hospital, and sickened 50 million -- a sixth of the population -- by mid-November 2009
Was there a panic then? How much was publicized?

Only 256,000 people in the US got H1n1 and only 2,800 people died. I'm not sure where you got your numbers, but they are not accurate.

Also, H1n1 was only contagious if the person was symptomatic. Coronavirus is contagious 2 weeks before that.

This is orders of magnitude worse.

Fair enough. Apparently I searched and found very dated statistics. My apologies.

No, they’re not.

Thousands will be killed from it

No, they won’t.

Was just told that games at the Montgomery YMCA soccer fields are cancelled tonight and an official announcement will come this afternoon. I think the complex is going to be shut down for 2 weeks, so there's a lot of high school/youth rec games about to be cancelled.
