Interesting. That is definitely the type of stuff I was looking for. What were your issues with them if you don't mind sharing?

And, is there a similarly priced place you stayed that you DID like. I'm really open to all places.

Have you looked on Craigslist? I always preferred renting from a private owner, as opposed to renting from a realty company. Just had better luck.

I know nothing about any of the places you listed, so can't add anything. I'd just pick an area, and hone in on that area to find something you like.

My daughter says there are some nice ones off 29th St near St Vincent's Hospital pretty convenient to where the 20 something's like to hang out. She says stay away from Fultondale or living in Center point.

Sand,

How much are you wanting to spend? I ask because of the loft apartment district. You could actually buy one and build equity. Have secure parking, walking distance to great foot and social spots, and still be close but not too close to Center Point.

Watts Tower for Example

I'm looking at around $600, but that's more out of conservatism than anything else. I could go more for the right situation, but my whole reason for moving here is to establish a better life for my kid. Birmingham is more money, and a better place for children than where I am. I'll have to be a weekend dad for a while to pull that off, and that sucks, but it's right long term.

So I could spend more, but I'm really trying to save up and send home. But I'm interested in all opportunities.

From my above link: Est. Mortgage:$577/mo

If your kid is living with you, do not live in B'ham unless you can afford private school. If schooling your child is on you, suck up the drive and come out to 280. Hoover or Oak Mountain Schools.

i lived right there a couple years ago, probably in the apartments she is talking about. I really liked them, had a 2 bedroom 1 bath with 9 ft ceilings and hardwood floors for 700/month at the time. was built in the 20s and was drafty as frick though. i also lived in a studio on highland for 450/month. on 29th you are right by the straight up projects, and also like a mile from the most expensive houses in town, was kinda weird. never had a problem at that location, got my car broken into on highland. one unexpected benefit of living in that area was the proximity to the little western market right off 280. it was a nasty little store, but had the best fried chicken, greens, and cornbread ever at the deli.

There's also some to lease on 28th and 7th ave south. A little bit more expensive, but a block from St. Vincents and getting onto the interstate. Several sports bars and a couple of eating places right on the corner as well. Can go the back way through Irondale too if wanting to avoid the interstate.

1Br 1Ba $744 per month

eta- within a block... on tap sports café, golden rule bbq, lou's, the rare martini, and also close to the Avondale breweries, for the evening scene.

I had to take my drug test at St Vs and it's not very far from my new job at all. That could be cool. I don't mind a bit of a drive, but the last 4 years I've been driving 45 miles each way to work. Tired of that shite!

Didn't see that posted. But yeah. Center Point is basically all Sec 8 apts. Ok working, but not living anymore.

You can google street view 29th street and 7th ave south and see the area. The big open field with the Brasfield and Gorre sign, is now an Apt building. You can see the building on regular google maps, but it's not built yet on the street view.

That's St Vincent's East between Center Point and Trussville. The main St. Vincent's is downtown.

Ahh.. gotcha. It's pretty much centered between getting on 280 and 29th where the bars, bbq and apts are.

It would be cheaper to live in Trussville and he'd still live in a quality school system.
