Zion Green was a huge get yesterday. Probably the most polished 4 we've gotten since Jaren Stevenson (I understand he wasn't the best here, but he was very good coming out of HS). He and Lumpkin are going to be absolute ballers, but I don't think Oats and Murphy are done yet. Also believe we've started to ramp it up when it comes to basketball NIL.

We'll likely lose Allen to the draft. I'm going to go ahead and predict we lose Bouie to the NBA as well. Holloway, Garrison, and Fielder are all seniors. So that leaves only one true PG with Diaz for next season.

The 2022 class had guys like Brandon Miller, Rylan Griffen, Jaden Bradley, and Noah Clowney. Then of course transfer wise, Oats was able to get Mark Sears.

Not sure about next year's group, but the current freshmen (Richardson, Bouie, Cole, Samuels) have the potential to match the impact of the 22 class.

They're eligible for another year with the 5 in 5 rule.

I'll be honest, I barely pay attention to basketball recruiting anymore as far as high school kids go. I assume Nate will sign good players and the best ones will be here 1-2 years. Our NIL deficiencies don't affect that as much because those kids still have the NBA dream and our system is among the best in the country for letting them show what they can do in an NBA style system. I just wish we'd give him more money to work with in the portal. That's where you're going to build a title winner these days.

To be honest, I think it's awesome how nonchalant we are on this. We can literally assume he'll reload and have is in the top 6 of the SEC, with the threat to make a deep run in March.

Had no idea. That's awesome. A fifth year of Holloway would be incredible.

Pretty special class. Cannot forget about Anderson either. He might be heavily relied on because of his handles. His high school tape is incredible. Don't think he'll be an elite scorer, but man if he can just facilitate and break down the defense, we'll be golden.

I hate that Richardson is injured.

I don’t think so because I think these are the only 2 Oats is trying to sign for this class. And I think the rest of the $$ will go towards retention

I think our current freshman class will end up better than 22 tho

I love what Oats is doing and has done. The current and incoming class is special. That said, based on what we know about the 22 class of freshman only.

* Miller, SEC player of the year, SEC Freshman of the Year, 1st team All american by some and 2nd team All american by just about all others. 2nd overall pick and has really been far superior to the #1 pick from that year.

* Clowney 1st round draft pick

* Bradley - Sec all freshman team, Big 12 player of the year, Big 12 all defensive team and defensive player of the year runner up.

That class was on par with some of the best Duke and UK classes ever.

Those 3 alone are staggering.

You won't make friends saying that, but you aren't wrong. I do think there is still a place for the super recruits though. Guys who come in with more overall measurables and skills than the veteran guy who is a 1st team all conference 18 ppg guy, but has limited upside. A good mix of both doesn't bother me, especially with one and done's, you have to take that level of upside I think.

I agree with you. I'm not saying we should abandon prep recruiting in favor of the portal, just that I wish we could go after more guys with established track records of production in major conference basketball. Generally our portal moves are high production mid-major guys or low production major conference guys with upside.

I agree. It's interesting though, you can see Oats is evolving in real time to a certain degree.

He 100% deserves the money, way more than the current football coach does. I'm glad we finally gave him a new practice facility.

I mean, in a short span, he's shown to be an elite recruiter, install a player-friendly NBA style of offense (something we could only dream about when Grant and Avery were here), and has success in the tournament.

You won't get any argument out of me! I don't think it's exaggerating to say Nate is a generational coach and it seems a lot of the fanbase gets it and I think Byrne does as well. Hopefully that translates into giving him the budget and betting on the fact that those extra dollars spent are going to translate into something much greater than just a trophy.

Oh I'm pissed. I'm going to find someone that looks just like you in GTA VI and ensure he marches in a gay parade. Then I'll back my car over you.

I could be wrong, but they have different trajectories IMO. Stevenson was in that 5-star range for the longest time because his potential was tantalizing (unusual combination of length, athleticism and - at the time - shooting). Green had to earn his way to this range with solid outings in HS/AAU. He seems a lot more coordinated and has some legitimate go-to scoring moves that I don't remember seeing from Stevenson.

Lol

He was highly ranked coming out of high school. But that doesn't mean he was polished. JD and Reid were even higher out of high school, but they sure as hell weren't polished. Not trying to be a dick, but just found that funny

Green supposedly could play as a big wing. Sounds like he's athletic for his size. That said, I haven't seen his film yet, so I'm just going on what I read on recruiting sites.
