Bama's problems start with the strength and conditioning program

And, it started in Saban's last few years.

This team is soft both mentally and physically. We can try to blame it on the portal, NIL, poor schemes and execution but the biggest adjustment this team needs is in the S & C program and the mindfrick that goes along with it to create mental toughness.

Alabama has elite talent. What it doesn't have is the character for EVERY player on the field to beat the guy in front of him for 60 minutes.

The 4 teams left have it. Alabama does not.

S&C hasn’t been great but the most glaring issues since 2021 is piss poor OL play with 5* talent that is routinely hyped up as a top 5 unit in the country preseason.

It’s baffling how bad we’ve been on that unit for several years now.

I agree 1000%

How you win and make them quit in the Fall is determined by the work you put in the Spring and we just don't have it anymore.

You could see us losing it Saban's last years as well.

We need a new S&C direction.

Maybe they go hand in hand.

We couldn't gain a half a damn yard with an OL that averages about 330# and a 240# RB.

That's a physicality and mental toughness problem not a scheme problem.

That’s right. Go watch Kobe talk about the off season work. He worked so hard, there wasn’t enough time for talented players to catch him once the season started.

Coaching arrogance is the issue. The coaches on both sides want to run what they want to run instead of using the players strengths.

The online we have were brought here to play a certain way. Not going left to right. That's 100% scheme.

Yep the two star brigade of dudes who werent genetic freaks but understood the scheme and their assignments were a machine yesterday against Bama's 5 stars on Dline

scheme and their assignments

This is the biggest thing to me. S&C is a problem, but not the biggest problem on OL for me (other than Proctor refusing to get in shape).

How many times do we have OL making a stupid shift and giving up a free rusher in the A or B gaps? How many times do we have a 1 tackle blocking 2 guys on the edge, while the guard and center combo block a 3-tech? How many times is the RBs first read in pass pro to the side of the field where help is not needed? How many times do we have a numbers advantage on the strong side, and then run weak side into boundary anyway?

Whether it's making poor reads at the line, or just a dumbass scheme from the very beginning, either way, the design of protection and run blocking is awful right now.

Even worse, when we do get it called right, half the time we have a guy completely play the wrong assignment, or whiff on a block. This is what makes me say it's not so much S&C. When we get a hat on a hat, we're not getting blown up. We're allowing easy penetration due to bad scheme and execution.

I've gone back and watched film of several games to focus on the OL. It is genuinely 50/50 on any given play as to whether or not we get 5 guys who play their correct assignment (regardless of if they are actually successful in executing against their assignment).

And on OL, if one guy plays the wrong assignment, the whole play is fricked. It's not like DB where if one DB plays the wrong assignment, you can still be fine depending on the offensive playcall or the QB's read.

Its gotta start with the players. If you have players that are freaks but dont understand the scheme and the plays it doesnt matter. OL coach has also gotta go.

Yep that is how the great players are made. I literally hated the off-season workouts but it's what makes you different in-season.

I just don't believe these guys are getting challenged the way they should and the program has slowly declined on OL and DL for some time now. It has to be that, not every coach needs to be a perfect guru. When you are just physically and mentally more you just win at the line and we haven't just won for some time.
