Looks like @GAUnoDos is now on scholarship at #Alabama
Tua Tagovailoa provided a bit of breaking news Tuesday night as he revealed senior tight end Giles Amos received a scholarship for Alabama.

The starting quarterback posted a video of himself congratulating Amos to his Instagram story with the caption “Congrats to my guy on getting a scholarship!” Tagovailoa commented on Amos last week, stating the 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end was a “big asset” to the offense.

Amos played in two games last season, making appearances against Louisiana and The Citadel. Last week, head coach Nick Saban called the Perry, Ga., native “tough” and said "I think he can play a role for us this year.”

“He can definitely do it all,” safety Xavier McKinney said. “He’s got strong hands, physical and he’s definitely one of those guys that’s kind of hard to guard. I think he brings a lot to the table.”

Alabama walk-on tight end earns scholarship (BamaOnLine)

Giles Amos received some good news Tuesday evening. Amos, a walk-on tight end at Alabama, was awarded a scholarship, according to junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's Instagram story, which read, “Congrats to my guy on getting a scholarship!”

“We have some guys -- we have Major Tennison, we have Miller Forristall, we have Giles Amos,” said Tagovailoa earlier in preseason camp. “I know not too many of you guys know who these guys are, but I think they're gonna be a big asset to us this upcoming year.”

A senior, Amos is a native of Perry, Ga., and a product of Westfield (Ga.) High School and stands at 6-foot-4, 245 pounds. As a walk-on in 2018, he made his first career appearance against Louisiana and saw time against The Citadel. During the Crimson Tide's spring game in April, Amos caught one pass for four yards.

“He does a lot,” safety Xavier McKinney said. “He kind of, for me, just got on the radar. But he can definitely do it all. He’s got strong hands, physical and he’s definitely one of those guys that’s kind of hard to guard. I think he brings a lot to the table.”

With Hale Hentges and Irv Smith Jr. moving on to the NFL and Kedrick James transferring to SMU, Alabama needs for its inexperienced tight ends to step up prior to the start of the 2019 season.

Redshirt junior Miller Forristall is expected to be the No. 1 option at the position, but players like Amos, Major Tennison, Cameron Latu and Jahleel Billingsley to provide quality depth this fall.

"He’s done a nice job. He’s tough and I think he can play a role for us this year” said Saban of Amos earlier this preseason. “We have got to make improvement at that position. We have guys that have ability. They don’t have a lot of experience. They need to develop confidence in, A., what to do, how to do it, why it’s important to do it that way. And then when they go out there and execute, do it the right way so that develop the confidence that they need to go out and do their job well.

“So, I think we have guys that are capable of doing that. Miller’s probably the only guy that’s sort of old enough that has enough experience that kind of gets it. I think the other guys are going to have to develop that and they’ve made progress. And Giles has done a good job in taking advantage of the opportunity that he has because of the lack of depth that we have at that position. He’s gotten a lot of repetitions and he’s taken advantage of it.”

Saw that Tony T has contacted the family and they confirmed there was a family issue and they wanted to keep it private...

Hope they get things worked out and he uses this time to heal his tweaked knee.

I've read a few people say this is a "thinking about a transfer" situation...........there's no way, right?

I hope that’s not the case. Did he get here in January or this summer? Either way that would be ridiculous unless it had to do with something outside of football.

His last post on IG was a pic of him at practice three days ago and there are a few comments on the pic (including some from Bama players) using the black heart emoji. Leads me to believe he might have a sick/dying relative and this really is only a family issue.

With that said, I think people were saying the whole Anoma situation was originally a "family issue," so who knows.

He came in pretty hyped up, but Dale and Eboigbe are the two who look like they'll be playing a bunch this fall. Could definitely be Kendall Sheffield 2.0 if he has some asshat relative in his ear about how all these other guys are scrubs and he should have been named a starter before he even got on campus.

I haven’t heard transfer but there are some family illnesses. He should be back with no worries unless it’s a move close to family deal.
