Defense update through 5 practices...

Remember that it is early and things change daily in the spring. The defense is more set than offense as you know.

The truth...The DL is loaded with depth. There is lots of rotation as they are all very good. Phil Mathis is out for spring so First team A is Justin Eboigbe, DJ Dale, and Byron Young. First team B is LaBryan Ray, Tim Smith, and Stephon Wynn. I expect all of these players to play a ton during the season. Second team is Jah-Marlon Latham, Monkell Goodwine, and Jamil Burroughs. Goodwine is a great addition during spring.

The truth... This could be our best LB group in the last few years and with depth. The outside LBs might be both All Americans with first team Will Anderson and Chris Allen. Second team is Drew Sanders and King Mwikuta. Third team is Chris Braswell and Christian Johnson. Third Team moves a ton so don't focus on it; Parks and Q Robinson getting lots of reps. A look at inside LBs are first team Christian Harris and Jaylen Moody. Second team Shane Lee and Demouy Kennedy. Third team are two stud freshman Deontae Lawson and Ian Jackson.

The Truth... First team Corners are Josh Jobe and Jalyn Armour-Davis. Second team corners are Ronald Williams and Brandon Turnage. But Ga'Quincey McKinstry is getting lots of reps as well as Marcus Banks. Corner is still wide open. Safeties are fantastic with First team Jordan Battle and DeMarco Hellams. Second team is Kristian Story and Daniel Wright. Star first team is Brian Branch who started our last two games and looks great. Second team is Jahquez Robinson. Malachi Moore is still out with injury and not expected to play this spring.

OL update. Emil, Quick and Bowles were in black which shook up the OL again. Bowles should be back soon. The latest OL without injured players are First team LT Neal, LG Cohen, C Owens, RG T Brown, RT Randolph. Second team LT Kight, LG Mclaughlin/ Ferguson, C Dalcourt, RG George, RT Latham/ T Brockermeyer. OL will continue to move around as coaches are giving everyone a chance and trying to find best group. The OL is shown in 247 video on Friday and Saturday. Tommy Brockermeyer gaining every day.

Overall this defense should be our best defense in years. The corner spot is our biggest question.

Talking about one I had high hopes for, Top 100 recruit Jarez Parks. The dude even greyshirted to come here and the light hasn't seem to turn on yet, much like Ben Davis I guess.

From the SEC:

Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Wednesday the Conference will not conduct its traditional in-person SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Florida.

"The SEC Spring Meetings provide an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, plan for the future and focus on our mission to serve people through our universities," said Sankey. "We have learned a lot in the last year including how to conduct effective meetings through technology. We believe a combination of smaller in-person meetings on varying dates and continuing use of virtual meeting technology is more appropriate given the current circumstances than a multi-day indoor conference room gathering."

The SEC Spring Meetings serve to bring together university presidents and chancellors, faculty athletics representatives, student-athletes, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, communications directors, and head coaches in the sports of football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The meetings are designed to discuss current issues, consider Conference and national policy changes, provide input to the NCAA and develop overall strategy for the Conference.

The meetings traditionally conducted in Destin during the week of Memorial Day will now be conducted through different formats throughout the spring and summer. This is the second year COVID-19 has impacted the annual meetings. Until the pandemic caused the cancellation of last year's event, the SEC Spring Meetings had annually been conducted in Destin, Florida, since 1985 and were previously held in varying locations and formats.

LINK ]NCAA on brink of allowing one-time immediate transfer for all athletes (SI.com | segments)
quote:

The Division I Council, the NCAA’s primary legislative body made up mostly of school athletic administrators, met Thursday to iron out details of the landmark legislation, which reverses a policy from the 1960s. The group is expected to meet April 15 to approve the measure, sources told Sports Illustrated. The new transfer legislation would go into effect immediately after it is approved by the NCAA Board of Governors.

Under current transfer rules, athletes in five sports, including football and men's and women's basketball, are ineligible in the first year they transfer unless they receive a waiver. The new rule would allow all athletes to move freely at least once, though it includes some stipulations. Athletes must submit notification of transfer by certain dates to be eligible at their next location.

“Students ought to have that ability to transfer once during their career and I understand the complexity that creates for coaches and roster management, but I think it is overdue we provide that flexibility,” Mark Emmert says.

What he did not mention is that the driving force behind the latest progressive rule changes from the NCAA is, likely, Congress. The NCAA is desperately lobbying Congress to create a federal bill to govern name, image and likeness (NIL) and preempt a bevy of state laws that are being hurriedly passed. Because of this, the organization finds itself at the mercy of Congressional members who, on both sides of the aisle, are publicly skewering the association’s amateurism model and pushing for progressive changes, such as the transfer policy.

“What I’ve heard about the conversation with Mark Emmert is a clear sign of lack of leadership,” Sen. Richard Blumenthall (D-Conn.) said earlier Thursday. “He says he wants Congress to help him—well, we’re going to give him hell.”

Intra-conference transfers are another sticking point. Many leagues force players to sit a year when moving from one conference school to another. Conferences would have to adjust their own rules to mirror the NCAA’s new change.

I recently discovered a FREE new app available on andrioid/apple by the name of "Locker Room"! It's pretty cool sports voice discussion site. There will be a live voice chat "All things Bama Football" on Saturday, April 3rd at 5 pm central time, 6 pm Eastern, under the SEC room. I'm specifically letting everyone on our Alabama boards Recruiting and Megathread know about it. (I'm listed as Bamatask on the site)

Take a look at the Locker Room app, download it, (it takes a day or so to get approved for the site), and be there on Saturday, April 3rd at 5 pm central time, 6 pm Eastern.

Pretty cool app!

Has anyone seen anything on Drew Sanders? I was expecting him to make a move this year. Havent even seen a pick of him in practice.

A move to where? He isn’t beating out Anderson or Allen. He’s already the 1st OLB off the bench.

The previous page has a post that mentions him being 2nd team. You also replied to that post.
