With a very talented backfield it will be important for a couple of the guys to consistently pick up blocks to keep a young QB room upright. I have confidence that coach Gillespie will get them right.
Having a guy that can flex out in passing game on linebackers would be huge too. Jace/Keilan perhaps?

How many trasfers are needed at this point? Is there a date we have to be under by?
4 to 7 by August. This Roster/Depth post (link is in the pinned Tide FB Recruiting & Roster thread 1st post) explains and breaks it all down.
Someone on one of the pay boards was indicating that the R-Jrs from last year's roster would qualify as "Seniors" returning under COVID rules and not count.... IF this is so,
1 Daniel Wright
2 LaBryan Ray
3 Phidarian Mathis
4 Chris Allen
5 Kendall Randolph
6 Major Tennison
all of whom started in 2017
would be "non-counters" and that would take the roster right to the magic 85(or 86).... (well until JTT and Henry T decide)..
I have never tried to understand the Covid exception and only hope that this is true but will leave the interpretation fo the rules and exceptions to those above my paygrade.

At one point I thought that was the case and I'd reflected it in the Roster/Depth post. But Charlie Potter (BOL) says the only non-counters toward the 85 limit are returning players who would've exhausted their eligibility in 2020 without the added year. And that does make sense, but I haven't seen a clear statement either way from the NCAA. Hopefully, those six players are non-counters. We'll see.

Based off my opinion. What are you going by, since we lost our number 1?
Apparently, you have much more information than my opinion, so please share........
Film and that Nick Saban will go with the upperclassmen who wont make mistakes over a young talent.

Anyone expecting Tyson or Milroe to really challenge for the starting job, or is Bryce 100% in the drivers seat?

Boz will give us the lowdown after the 1st scrimmage.

I expect Young to be qb and Saban has commented he is doing well but I also hear that Tyson looks good and that he'd be the starter on most SEC teams. That's encouraging.

Report: Nick Saban eyeing Memphis' Drew Svoboda to replace Jay Graham at Alabama
quote:
Svoboda made the jump to collegiate coaching after guiding Klein Collins High School to five district championships, eight playoff appearances and a 93-24 record in 10 seasons as head coach. His winning percentage (.795) ranked sixth among active Texas 6A head coaches at the end of the 2017 season.
He took over a program that was 1-9 in 2007 and two years later led them to a 12-1 mark and a district championship. He earned the first of five Touchdown Club of Houston Coach of the Year finalist awards as well as five District 15 6A Coach of the Year honors and the Houston Texans NFL High School Coach of the Year honors.
Svoboda was named Dave Campbell's Texas Football Preseason 6A Coach of the Year in 2017 after leading Klein Collins to the state semifinals in 2016. He was also tabbed by VYPE Magazine as its Houston Football Coach of the Year in 2016. Prior to that season, he coached the East team in the Bayou Bowl High School All-Star game.
He was president of the Greater Houston Greater Houston Football Coaches Association and was on the Board of Directors for the Texas High School Coaches Association, serving as the Region Five Director.
Sounds like Saban wants some more Houston inroads, and this guy definitely qualifies. Not to mention the fact that it sounds like he was one hell of football coach, at least in high school.

Milroe is a dang monster. I don’t expect him to play much if any this season, but he dang sure looks the part. He’s stout
