I know information is hard to come by in these times but has anyone heard how Will Reichard is doing coming off his injury? Haven't heard much mentioned about special teams.

I think I saw something about Reichard kicking well and feeling no adverse effects from the injury. At any rate, in this case no news is good news; if he was significantly hobbled or not doing well, I'm sure we would've heard.

I found this via a forum search on Reichard.

And then Waddle tripped over it, resulting in a high ankle sprain.

Why does that matter? It still shows that Will recovered from his injury.

It matters because he missed the ball and kicked the tee, during game. His track record isn’t good with stupid stuff

Neither is mine, but I've still survived for 65 years so far.

Nobody is counting on you to make a game winning field goal.

I played a hybrid strong safety/OLB position in HS, but I was also the punter. I could boom it with good hang time and place it where I wanted. I wasn't any good as place kicker tho, but my oldest son was. He got it from playing soccer when he was young.

I doubt any UA fan is counting on us winning a game via a field goal either.

Bama and field goal kickers will always be a volatile mix. "The kick 6" at the barn is the only time that I can think that a field goal attempt cost us a shot at all the marbles. But is that even fair? Griffin trying a long field goal as time expires and watching the entire team whiff on executing the return feels like a lot more than anything Adam Giffin didn't do. That was a freakin' long field goal attempt and it wasn't going to end the game under normal circumstances. Same is true in Atlanta late in the 4th quarter vs JawJaw. A lot closer field goal attempt but the worst that could happen under normal circumstances again in OT. We've been fortunate really given all the huge games we've played.

The so-called "game of the century" was just about as bad a situation with field-goals as I've witnessed during our 13-year run. It's still a little irritating because Jeremy Shelley was good enough to win that game for us but we kept running that LBer out there expecting a different result. Jeremy Shelley kicked 5 field goals in the rematch vs LSU in the championship game. Oh well.

These are the 3 games that come to mind as far as kicking futility in big-time situations. Maybe there's more, but frankly, it's just as easy to say that "kick 6" and the "game of the century" were coaches putting our guys in situations that caused the results.

Why? It wasn’t always that way.

Mostly because of perception. The reason I just gave those 3 examples is that, even then, perception isn't always reality.

Missing a field goal against Auburn last year near the end of the game, probably cost Bama a playoff spot,

I think the perception is we have relied on the offense under Saban to win games not the FG kicker. So when he trots out there, especially in a game winning situation, it is even more noticeable.

But the reality is this.

quote:

Alabama does have the most missed field goals since Saban took over the program. According to CBS, the Crimson Tide have missed 101 field goals since 2007 – the most by any team in that span.
