That’s game plan, they don’t allow anyone but staff to see that. My guess is this week every practice minus the completely scripted 10 mins for outsiders will be closed off.

"Milroe need to make faster reads". I suppose it's a fair critique but it's a lazy critique. Bryce Young processed the game faster than anyone that's ever walked through those halls, yet he had to walk on water most of the time just to complete a pass.

Yeah because we had a crappy OC that ran vanilla routes which were easy to blanket. It wasn't hard stopping our WRs without someone like Jameison breaking their blanket with ease.

This is why Bryce always took so long. It is why I would complain so much and some here hated me for it.

With Rees, I expect him to play to his players strengths and have a simply process of reads in an RPO. Now it is on Milroe to be comfortable with the reads and know exactly where he is suppose to go with the ball dependent on the safety, LBs, etc formation and movement after the snap.

We got smoked by Herndon Hooker last year who was dreadful the year before. Did he magically start reading defenses or was he throwing to wide open receivers.

Yeah, well believe this or not players who actually focus get better. The game slows down.

The game slowed down for Hendon and you could see he took a lot of time studying the plays and how he would react to them given the defensive line up and movement after the snap. Don't take credit away from the player.

I guess I'll concede Milroe needing to make faster reads to anyone who'll concede that our coaching staff needs to improve the scheme. I trust that we'll see both on Saturday.

This x1000

Our scheme made it hard on the #1 overall pick. And not like a project #1. A guy that was unanimously was considered the most polished and NFL ready of his class

Man you guys think these kids just come in and don't grow, learn a system and get better.. ?

I remember for me it took the spring of my sophomore year for things to finally slow down, for the playbook to be second nature and for me to start seeing the things pre-snap and not thinking to hard to figure out what was going on. The difference for me was theh brought a new recruit to take my place (I was bullshitting) and that lit a fire in me to get serious, not miss any workouts, get in the film room in the off-season and actually figure what the hell was going on and not just what the playcall was generically.

You can believe this or not. Insult me. Whatever. That is the reality.

For some it takes a kick in the arse. For others it takes time. Some never get to the point. Then there are some that show up the first practice and they are like pros.

He got injured in that game.

I do know one thing.

He walked into Baton Rouge and beat the shite out of LSU.

We didn't do that.

Ok.

He got injured so he didn't play the full game.

He had 242 yards passing and 3 TDs before his injury.

Tennessee scored 38 points and lost by 25. That game wasn't on Hooker.

Hooker didn't get hurt until the 4th when they were down 49 to 31 and he only averaged 5.9 per pass. It's not as if he played lights out and then SC won because he got hurt.

Josh Pate picked Alabama to beat Ohio State in the National Championship after beating Oregon in the semis.

Penn State as the other playoff team.

His knee caved in on a non-contact play. We holding this against him too?

Any defense that allows Spencer Rattler to throw for 430+ yards and 6 TDs is definitely not to blame for their loss.

Just stating the facts. They lost twice, not just once. Peace, Love and Roll Tide

Not saying that at all. I'm saying for 3 and half hours last October, I watched in bewilderment Hendon Hooker throw a party on our defense without making a single read. Whether he grew as a qb is immaterial. I assume he did over the years. All afternoon, I watched the guy snap the ball every 15 seconds, drop back and throw the ball to the only guy he looked at. With wild success. He never pretended to read anything. Am I going crazy? I feel like it was discussed for weeks afterward on this board. Does someone else remember this? Anyways we've driven into a Hendon Hooker ditch which wasn't my intent. I apologize for bringing him up. My larger point was we don't need Jalen Milroe to morph into Tom Brady to be successful. That's not a practical expectation. We need an offensive approach that schemes our guys into favorable situations. Which I think is easily doable for the coaching staff.

Milroe could be very dangerous to other teams. He's an elite athlete. Reminds me a bit of Matt Jones of Arkansas from back in the day - not a lot of wiggle but once he starts heading straight he's going to outrun a lot of angles.

The issue, of course, is passing. Can he make a secondary read to a WR? Will he be able to see his first option covered and find a second WR or will he dump it off to the RB? Will he run?

My concern is if we're 80 yards from the end zone and down 5 and we need him to lead us down the field quickly.
