Samford was literally 2 inches away from hitting a game tying grand slam. They still scored 2 runs to cut it to 8-6.

That was last held in 2019. We play Troy there next week though.

Light crowd at The Joe tonight although Right Field filled in as the game went on. Enough drama to make me nervous but another good win. Lots of pitchers got some work. Jake Leger made his return (finally!). Colby Shelton now has the freshman home run record. All in all a great way to wrap up the mid week games at The Joe.
(FYI - Bama/Troy in Montgomery is May 9th).
Five-Run Eighth Ensures Baseball’s 13-6 Win over Samford
The Bulldogs kept things close all evening but a huge eighth inning put things out of reach
Alabama baseball used a five-run eighth to put the game out reach in a 13-6 win over Samford on Tuesday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide is now 30-12 on the season.
Both teams were scoreless through three innings of play with Alabama plating one in the fourth and two in the fifth for a 3-0 lead. Samford came back with a three-run sixth to tie things up for a short time, as the Tide posted four runs in the home half of that inning and regained the lead. The Bulldogs would not go quietly, adding one in the seventh and two in the eighth. Alabama countered with one run in the seventh before the five-run eighth blew it open.
Alabama was able to score in the final five innings and totaled double-digit runs for the 18th time this season. The offense was led by Colby Shelton, Tommy Seidl and Ed Johnson, who each homered in the game. Shelton finished 2-for-4 with a double, one run and a team-high tying four RBI, while Seidl matched Shelton's RBI total and went 2-for-3 with three runs and a walk. Johnson also finished 2-for-3 and contributed three RBI and one run scored.
The win went to Tide reliever Aidan Moza (1-1) while Samford reliever Turner Thompson (1-1) was tagged with the loss.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"This was a really good win for our club, we played really well. The score was a little misleading in that is was so high, but our at-bats were really good. We hit some balls hard in the first three innings and we didn't have a lot to show for it, but we stuck with it and scored in the last five innings to put the game out of reach."

Post game notes on Colby
quote:
Colby Shelton hit his team-leading 16th home run. His 16 home runs are the most by an Alabama freshman in program history. He passed the previous record of 15 by Ross Wilson (2008) and Jeremy Brown (1999). He's now chasing the SEC single-season record of 21 by Frank Thomas in 1987.
Shelton's 16 homers are the most for UA since Chandler Taylor had 16 across the entire 2017 campaign.
