Owen is tearing it up too. I’ll find the tweet but I think he’s leading the league early in the season. I keep reminding myself that the freshmen missed their senior year and had trial by fire in the SEC their freshman year. I think they’ll be fine. Pinckney started out hot when he got his chance, but cooled off dramatically as the season went on. Hoping the new hitting coach will work some wonders.

We’ll find out in a few weeks if we lose any to the draft, but here’s an old link to the recruits who signed for 2021-22:

Didn't realize Roberto Vaz's son, Javier plays for Vandy. I'll never forget when Roberto broke his foot stepping on a ball during the tourney. Really thought that was our year

for believing in him! Roll Tide and go #22!
Looks like there's at least one of our top guys that we won't have to worry about leaving in the draft. Really excited to see his bat in our line-up next year. I think he could be a 15 HR a year guy for the next 2+ years (He'll be draft eligible sophomore year). #33 prospect on Perfect Game.

This is one that's not as much of a surprise because of his season-ending surgery early this year, but looks like there won't be a worry about losing Kade Woods to the draft either. RHP from Louisiana, #174 on Perfect Game.

Between he and Hayslip, that's the #1 and #4 rated prospects in our recruiting class according to PG. The four guys to really watch in the draft are our #2 (Noah Miller, #47 on PG), #3 (Brandon Clarke, #99 on PG), #5 (Luke Holman, #204 on PG) prospects, and our new commit Ben Hess (#133 on PBR).

*EDIT: It looks like Brandon Clarke is already on campus as well. Probably doesn't mean it's a done deal he stays, but seems to indicate there's a very good chance!

From Perfect Game yesterday on Ben Hess, the new RHP commit from IL.
quote:

Ben Hess (2021, Charleston, Ill.) has continued to create buzz around him this summer and for good reason. The 6-foot-5 right-hander has recently come off an injury, as well as decommitting, and is making that last chance push for the MLB Draft this July. The overall profile here shows huge upside as a starter at the next level as he held velocity without dipping below 90 mph. We saw him into his usual low-90s and he even popped a 94 mph during his outing. The heater shows riding life out of hand as he got plenty of swing and miss with it up in the zone. He went to a slider very rarely that shows horizontal life. The better breaking ball of the two was a curveball showing 11-to-5 movements with big depth in the upper-70’s that he got some knee buckles on. He rounded the four-pitch mix off with a tumbling changeup in the mid-80s that wasn’t necessarily a swing-and-miss type pitch, but it kept hitters off the heater. He is mechanically sound as he drives with the lower half and gets over the front side well, even with him just coming off some back issues. The arm also works well and it’s easy to think that he will casually sit in the mid-90s as he gets a bit stronger in the lower half. The East Cobb Yankee picked up the win today as he went a full 7 innings pitched while striking out 15 on just a pair of hits. To add to the stat line, he didn’t walk a single batter. Hess has recently committed to Alabama, but it looks as though he will have some decisions to make after the draft as we should hear his name called.
