That was simply put a great well-played baseball game.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon

"Zane (Denton), obviously, was one of the big stories of the game hitting the walk-off on his birthday. I’m just really happy for him. I don’t want to take away from what he did today, but wow, Owen Diodati hitting the two-run homer to tie it up was huge. And Andrew Pinckney, making a throw 250 feet on an absolute rope like that was a game-saving play. It was pretty awesome to have so many game-winning plays. The competitive spirit of the team was awesome, there was no panic, and it’s just a really great win for us.”

Postgame Notes

The Crimson Tide has won 16 straight in February and owns a 29-2 mark in the month under head coach Brad Bohannon.

Landon Green struck out a career-high four batters in his 2.0 innings of work. His previous career-best total was three last season at UNLV on Feb. 23.

The walk-off home run by Zane Denton was Alabama’s first walk-off homer since John Trousdale hit a grand slam against Grambling on May 10, 2017.

Alabama homered twice in each of the first two games to start the 2021 season. The Tide recorded two-or-more home runs in five games last season and tallied at least one homer in 13 of 17 games during the 2020 campaign.

The Tide offense recorded multiple home runs in back-to-back games for the first time since 2019. The Tide had two against Troy on April 2 and followed with two against South Carolina on April 5.

Another great day in Tuscaloosa! Neither the basketball nor baseball games came easy. Bama bats had me worried for a while there. So happy for the teams. Roll Tide!

No. 25 Alabama Baseball Earns Walk-Off Win over McNeese State, 4-3

quote:

A walk-off home run by sophomore third baseman Zane Denton elevated No. 25 Alabama baseball over McNeese State 4-3 on Saturday afternoon in Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

"What an amazing game — an amazing day — for both teams," Alabama coach Brad Bohannon said after the game. "I thought McNeese played a great game. I mean, there were web gems all over the field and they made us earn everything that we got."

McNeese is probably your Southland conference autobid this year, so this was an extremely good series win to open up with.

Congrats, Bama. It will be a nightmare of a grind this year once we get to conference play.

I’m a huge Coach Bo fan. I believe Bama needs to extend his contract. The sky is the limit with that guy

Agree - he's exactly what we need here. Great recruiter who also has unique connections on the frontiers of baseball where we can go get kids who aren't well known outside of the few people who really know (Canada, the Upper Midwest).

I don't know how good it is, but I am pretty positive that he's built a true SEC roster at this point, and that isn't easy. Not with what he walked into. How good a SEC roster it is is remained to be seen. But honestly, with the way this league is, I'm completely content with a coach who routinely wins 35-40 games, goes .500 in the SEC and makes the NCAAT.

That can get you to the CWS. We would know lol. Last time we made it we were 14-16 in this nightmare grind of a conference.

Honestly, I was about to add that I'd gladly take what Butch has established at Auburn as kind of the model. And I think that is pretty clearly where we are looking at heading as Bo and Butch are very similar.

Most seasons go anywhere between 14-16 an 16-14 in the SEC and every once in a while when you have a great core of guys you go 18-12 or something and challenge for the league title. But we're not going to recruit like Vandy or Florida or LSU or even State and Ole Miss, so the depth and front line star power won't be there very often.

The guy just has an extremely good eye for talent. Bryant Jr needs to put his foot down no make sure that Coach Bo is here for awhile

Christ Stewart’s call for a walk off against McNeese in baseball was better than Eli’s call for a walk off in the national title against UGA.

Game two from the McNeese State perspective:

“This game will break your heart sometimes and today was one of those days,” said McNeese head coach Justin Hill. “I’m really proud of how we competed.”

What are y'alls thoughts on the Statefarm Showdown?

Would you have preferred we open our season in something like that or do you like opening with McNeese State?

For those unaware, the Statefarm Showdown is a tournament in Texas featuring the following Top 15 teams:

Arkansas
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Texas
Texas Tech
TCU

ETA: The SEC squads won all 3 games yesterday.

I would support a Truist Tournament with Bama, Florida, UGA, Ga Tech, Clemson, UNC.

Honestly though, neutral site stuff is tiresome. Mississippi through Texas is the area of the country where college baseball is most popular, so SEC West and Texas schools can probably pull it off better.
