Are some fans maybe being too hard on Milroe?

Statistically, he was a top 15 QB this year in college football despite having Mclaughlin at C and a pretty bad O line overall. We didn't have many world-beaters at WR either. There's a reason that Milroe is tied with Ewers and Beck for the best odds to win the Heisman next year, He is a good QB.

I'm no Milroe apologist, just being realistic but I think the O line's pass blocking was a much bigger issue this year than Milroe. Milroe is one of the most mobile QBs in college football and couldn't overcome the O-line allowing so many sacks.

No.

I agree there were factors (Seth) that made his life more difficult, but he is surrounded by talent. He definitely improved, but I wouldn’t say he has improved into a Playoff caliber QB. What really tore me, was him acting cocky before playing UM. It bit him in the arse.

I think if this team is gonna be elite, he’s not the right QB.

Who is the right QB? Who would you portal in that's better? He accounted for over 3,300 yards and 35 tds while only throwing 6 INTs.

No. These guys are getting money openly now. They are professionals. If they aren’t playing up to standards then they will get criticized and lose their starting spot. Fans were already brutal in their opinions but with the athletes now getting money then they have more pressure on them to perform.

He called out his former OC, and said "who's laughing now."

Then proceeded to throw for 116 yds 0 TDs 1 fumble, and take 1000 yards worth of sacks.

That 1 miracle throw at Auburn and he started double fisting his own rat poison. Lol

I didnt like how he said all season, and at the rose bowl "I came here to throw ball."

He didnt say "we came here to win, and ill do whatever it takes"

Hes young, hes maturing, but its semi pro ball now so honestly I wish we had someone better suited to run the offense

Ty Simpson, Longerin, or Sayin

He’s an all or nothing QB. We need someone to move the chains. That doesn’t mean Milroe couldn’t develop into a great QB but I’m not sure if he can do that over the next year.

There are some glaring concerns. Can’t make all the throws i.e. short yardage inside the 10 yard line. Makes a team a whole lot easier to defend when to only have to guard certain portions of the field and feel like he doesn’t have the pocket presence and awareness to hurt defenses enough with his legs.

Feel like he went down too easy on a lot of sacks. Like he panicked and just was tackled too easy for a QB his size where as BY could sense and elude trouble to at least throw the ball away. Milroe might be fast but he is not overly agile nor elusive.

Even Tua didn't start as a Tr Freshman.

So two of your choices that would be better Milroe are a qb we have never seen play a down of college, and Lonergan who has completed one college pass for 6 yards.

You seem to not like him for reasons other than his QB play.

What Alabama needs is a guy who can protect the football, distribute to the playmakers around him, and move the chains consistently. Especially with clock rules today, extending drives is so crucial.

Milroe loves “the big play.” And he’s pretty damn good at making explosive plays happen, hence why he had so much Heisman clout this year (or at least enough to come in sixth). He also did a solid job of protecting the football after the loss in Week 2. Where he is lacking is in his ability to “take what the defense gives him” and hit the easy underneath stuff that would keep drives alive. Many times this year, he would opt for a much more difficult, deeper pass rather than hitting the TE, RB, etc. underneath to keep the chains moving and the drive alive.

Rees and the OL definitely deserve some of the blame for our offensive woes this year, but UA needs a QB akin to the one described above.

So they have to have started to play here? Simpson wasn’t ready at the beginning of the year but I think he has improved based off of what he showed towards the end of the year. I’ve seen enough of Jalen to know that he doesn’t have what we need to win it all. He is exactly like Jalen Hurts in 2017. He needs more time and development. I think Saban believes that too or Simpson wouldn’t have stayed another year.

You make a couple of good points but if Milroe took that many sacks imagine a qb you describe with this o line, imagine Greg McElroy back there. It's not as simple as "check the ball down" If it was a sack would never happen at any level. A checkdown does you no good when you're getting sacked before any of the receivers have a chance to turn around.

He would step up in the pocket and know where the pressure is coming from.

Ah yes. What does a team with an average offensive line, pedestrian runningbacks, and good but not game changing receivers need? A game manager

It is hard for Rees to call plays when his QB can't make them.

He finished 6th in the Heisman voting and is tied for the best odds to win the Heisman next season.

We made it to the playoffs with the worst O line we have had under Saban. What do you think got us there? The rbs?

That is both rushing and passing yardage. If you are going to include rushing yards here, I think you should include fumbles too. He was just over 2800 yards passing with 23 tds for the season which is pretty pedestrian.
