But against better defensive teams we can’t get a scheme or rhythm or play calling or anything working on offense. It’s like we play scared and rattled.
IMO it’s just too complicated for them. Good example is the 4th and 1. I don’t have any idea what that blocking scheme was supposed to be, and clearly the players didn’t either.
Simplify things. Russell is a little overwhelmed, cut it down some. And for god’s sake give him a check down once in a while. Some of the plays he has time and is sacked everyone is 20+ yards downfield.

Texas played vs Faizon who has been sacked at a higher % of dropbacks of any qualifying QB in Division-1. McIntyre had not been faced until today in 46 attempts.
Even being one dime spinal with Faizon at WB, Bishop reeled of 248 on AU and 7.8 yoc vs UT. Bama also had to defend 4 more possessions than UT and 3 more than AU.
Bama offense also gifted UT 9 points with the turnovers to start the game.
Giving up 2 TDs to Georgia and 2 to UT while also setting up a TD in each of those Gabe’s (should have been another one vs UGA with the QB Reese intervention) is about as much as you can ask for..
I don’t understand how fans expect to hold top10 teams to less than 2 scores and create more than 1 of their own defensively, especially when they are defending several more possessions bc our offense is ATROCIOUS.
But I’m sure Jeremy Pruitt would’ve gotten the UT kicker to miss the FGs and got 1 additional defensive score and won 10-7….

Bama performed far better against all common opponents they have shared with Texas and AU and faired better in all of them (yardage, yards per play, rushing totals).
Doesn’t really prove how great the situation is. Texas and Auburn also haven’t won a national championship in the playoff era so this is basically like pointing to the guys with no legs and saying “but I can use the urinal”.

I was in no way comparing the UT QB or offense to Deshaun Watson
But you did exactly that. You’re comparing today’s Bama D vs Tennessee vs a Saban Bama D vs a champion Clemson team. Lol
2016 Deshaun Watson would have a record-breaking day against today’s defense.
Why don’t you go ahead and throw out 2014 Zeke Elliot and OSU while you’re at it. Both teams would demolish this defense. Hell Indiana made it look like a cake walk just 9 months ago.

It’s 1st and 15, and UT is running the clock, also that picture is out of context and meant to be used as “proof” the defense is terrible bc the W/S rotates to the field prior to the snap, and Hubbard enters the box.
They are trying to stop the run bc of the clock and being down 2 possessions so the CB’s are “midpointing” to allow the single-high Safety to play in the Box.
That explain it?

This whole coaching staff doesn’t work in the SEC.. reason Deboer was so successfulz he wasn’t playing the SEC.
All I ask is the fans don’t boo this time at home.. and there will be plenty to boo about.. but since we have a arrogant coaching staff that thought we were booing the players.. please instead chant fire Grubb… or something along those lines.. let the prick know who the fans dislike

One more time:
I’m demonstrating/providing an example that I thought was easy to follow.
I am TRYING to give you an example to what can happen to the best defense of the past 25 year in all of CFB if they get hung out to dry and have to face FAR more possessions bc the offense is inept.
Clemson only had 24 points through 14 possessions then scored 2- on their final 3 which put them right at (or near) a 100 total plays.
Once again to clarify: I am not comparing the UT QB in any way shape or form to Deshaun Watson

It explains that play but not the continuation of that defense. I'm not saying the d lost the game. Im trying to explain why everyone is upset with the d. Kane continued to use that defense even though it did nothing to slow them down in the 4th and actually helped ut to traverse the field.
Did ut throw the ball deep at all during the game? Then why be scared of the play? Do I think the d played well enough to win? Yes but by this point it needed 3 and outs.

I understand that fatigue sets in if the offense can’t sustain drives, but the point is this defense has been vulnerable all year. If Kamario Taylor had been healthy, that game could have been a shootout. Georgia isn’t the world beater we thought it was, and they gashed Bama with the run, FSU passed all over the secondary. The offense sustained drives in all three games. We just have to face the fact that this defense is built around soft coverage until it is backed up to the red zone which means teams will take advantage of it when they have the lead and run the clock.
Tennessee has a very mediocre offense, and surprisingly did not run the ball much at all until the second half. The cries about fatigue would hit a little harder if Tennessee were running HUNH the whole game and we didn’t have TV timeouts every 2-3 minutes.

The gameplan was clearly to stop Bishop, the guy had run roughshod over the SEC despite Faizon making them 1-dimensional, the other think Wommack has done all 3 years vs UT is not give up the explosive deep down the field that Heupel using takes hand a dozen shots at.
I think he thought stopping Bishop while also not giving anything up over the top would limit them to 20 or less and could lead to a couple turnovers with their QB throwing short to intermediate passes when that’s not what Heupel is trying to do offensively.
Imo, it worked out just fine. The Bama offense spotted them 9 points and without the defense shutting them down after all 3 turnovers it could easily been 21-0 or 17-0 in the 1st quarter.
Then they got the turnover to setup a short s ore for the offense and again, on that final drive of the game when everyone knew the game was finished, they only had ; starters in the field did the final 7 plays of that series.
I wanted them to finish with just 19-10 as the final score to highlight the ineptitude of Grubb and costing them two major wins in a row, but I understand between the injuries and several guys playing 70+ snaps why they couldn’t finish out that final drive.

They turned Zstate over 5 times (2 for scores), Georgia IS a good football team, and #5 gave up 4 basically jump balls to FSU deep down the field.
FSU is the game that’s keeping their scoring defense out of the top 15 or so, and they had 68 yards rushing and completed 9 passes the entire game. The problem was that 4 of those completions were for 30 or more yards on #5.
Bama played tight m2m coverage the entire game and he was in good position every time but just panics when the ball is in the air.
I think they will finish top 15 (not top10 unfortunately) in scoring defense by the end of the season.
They moved up to #2 in turnovers and are #1 in defensive points scored which makes that 20.1 ppg drop to 16.2 which would put them 14th nationally.

Again I’m only comparing defenses and DJ Durkin and Muschamp are both very good and Bama has out-performed both in SEC play.

4 of them today. 2 on the first 3 possessions of the game
Talking about 3 and outs for context.
-The first UT possession was a 12 play drive that ended in 3. D tightened up in the RZ, but this series set the tone for the game.
-After a fumble inside our own 20, the Bama D did indeed get a three and kick. However, this includes a drop in the end zone by the UT tight end on a pass that hit him in the hands.
-UT’s third possession was NOT a 3 and out. It started with a 1 yard pass on a rollout that led to a 26 yard gain setting up the FG. Again Alabama did tighten up in the red zone, but the long gainer on a 1 yard completion set up the points.
-The Alabama D then had three really good series with 2 3 and outs and an interception that led to our only touchdown score. I will point out that one of those three and outs was the series where UT imploded with 3 false starts and ended up with 4th and 2.
-After the Alabama TD, the D gave up another 12 play almost 5 minute drive
-After halftime and a 5 minute drive from Alabama to start the 2nd half, UT had a 9 play 60 yard drive for their first TD. This drive saw only one 3rd down
-the 15 play nine and a half minute drive had only two third downs. The UT offense faced a 1st and 15 and a 1st and 19 on that drive.
I am 100% in agreement that the offense was abysmal. I can see that the D was in no way aided by the offense. That doesn’t mean they were good. They were just OK against a less than stellar offense and a limited QB making his second start. That QB ended up 21/31 with 197. We give up way too many easy throws and we miss lots of tackles.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Prolly not the best strategy with how bad our tackling is on the outside and lack of depth bc our defense is gassed when the offense struggles

I'm Ok with them playing off at times, but at least line up and walk it back to give the inexperienced QB something to have to process.

Yea giving an inexperienced and athletically challenged QB easy throws all day is baffling to me when we needed turnovers or better field position for our struggling O
