Looks like Broncos tried really hard to get DeMeco and preferred him over Sean Payton. They only turned to Sean after Ryans went to Houston.
ETA: 6 years is a crazy long contract. I bet they had to go high compensation due to the Broncs.

Sean Payton + Jeudy + Russ sounds pretty good from a 60 thousand foot view.
