Will have to get close to 198 to advance. It seems our scores are going backwards as we were high 197's earlier in the season.

Came in second in the first session, which was good enough to advance to Sunday. Gonna need a higher score to advance past Sunday.

198 is what will be needed.

Utah had a 197.5 and UCLA a 197.450 to lead the second session. Just have to outscore one of them. Consider we spent much of the season ranked in the top 5 not getting to the NCAAs will be a big disappointment.

I would be disappointed if we didn’t advance, particularly for the team. They’ve been a fun group to watch.
Calling it now, the Tide rolls today. First 198 of the season.

All comes down to today.
Alabama has one of their best seasons in a while and the universe (and the tournament) bestows on them the Regional of Death.
Utah is a Top 5 team. They lost their best gymnast early in the season and their scores brought their average down to a 12 seed, but now they're at full strength.
UCLA is UCLA, Top 5 and lead by a US Gold Medalist.
Alabama, I think we can safely say, peaked last month. The last 5 meets, they've scored like only a Top 10 team. To send one of these teams home, the Tide will HAVE to magically pull out a mid season performance. A 197.5 or better is likely the minimum to fight for Forth Worth. So for everyone watching, that's an average of 9.875 per routine.
There is no room for error... but that applies to everyone. Utah and UCLA know if they blink, they gone too.

Good post. Didn’t realize that about Utah. Ugh.
Any thoughts as to why the scores are softer in the last month?
Feeling less confident about my 198 call than I was when posted. But here we go! RTR

Looks like we underperformed on floor and choked on vault. Looks like we’re not going to make it through this brutal regional.

That’s correct. Weak on floor and vault was what the vault had been of late. Jamison fell.

Technically not really a choke on vault. It's been the weakest event all year. The hope was that we "survive" vault. We really couldn't.
Kudos to the team for throwing out the fall, but 9.7s from Gabby and Jordyn was lethal.

Looks like Alabama's 2026 will be a flip of 2025.
Last year we came out flat and finally began peaking at the end, enough to fight off missing SECs and eventually making Nationals.
This year we busted out on fire and then ran out of steam by March.
Ashley's a young coach in her 4th year.... ever, so a big part of her journey will be putting together the complete package. Or even just peaking the team strategically.
End of the road to legend Gabby Galdieux, who, like Morgan Dennis before her, put up multiple 10 worthy floor routines, but was always denied by at least one judge.
Change of the guard here as Karis German is the only Dana Duckworth era athlete with another year, if she wants it (missed this year to injury).
(the REAL losers of tonight however, are the Utah Utes, who will miss Nationals for the first time....ever.)

Final note. Future is bright if Ashley can keep this trajectory.
The team only loses on star in Gabby to graduation. starters Jordyn Paradise and Natalia Pawlak were career role players, tough to replace on their individual events, but nothing devastating.
Turksih international Derin Tanriyasükür and veteran Karis German can add a lot next year as well as a healthier Love Birt.
Alabama is bringing in a LARGE recruiting class next year. Based on their performances at Junior nationals, remember the names: Avery Schlichting, Addie Sarisky and Ella Kate Parker.
